But I was about 10 when this came out, so I was one that was sitting there on Saturday mornings. I think this is from the show, but they usually had silliness going on during the musical renditions because of the silly plots of the shows.

Love the Monkees, they had a bunch a great songs throughout the years. They did silly really well. My friends and I used to break out a very silly song of there when were were drinking called "Gonna Buy Me a Dog" and sing along at the top of our lungs.
I wasn't born til the late 70's but have absolutely ADORED The Monkees since I was a kid x Very fortunate to have seen them twice live (once as a 4 piece and again as a 3). Saw them last in 2011 the year before Davy passed away 🥰

My cousin and I used to use tennis raquets as pretend guitars and sing along (My cousin is now a self taught, fabulous guitarist....I can only still play the tennis raquet)
I didn't grow up in the 60's (born in the mid 70's), but my grandfather loved to get the latest gadgets and when the home satellite dish first came out he had one and it was huge (look like he was trying to get a message from some distant galaxy). I actually got to see Davey Jones a month or so before he passed. He was playing at Epcot of all places during the Flower Garden Festival where they have a whole month of performers. By a happy accident, I was tired and sat down to listen and realized it was him and not some cover band. My grandmother and I were like kids again just having a ball. Even called my mother so she could listen.
I love the Monkees and never missed a show on TV. The song was written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart. They wrote many great songs and also had a few hits of their own with my favorite being Wonder What She's Doing tonight.
Amazing how lighthearted you feel thanks to the music, while the lyrics are actually talking about a soldier's fear of going off to war and not knowing if he was ever going to come home.
The lighthearted, upbeat feel (and the rather obscure reference to "Clarksville") is probably how they got it past the network censors. (BTW, love your kitty!)

Flower Power!!! Bands of the 60's & 70's were about positive energy, love, happiness. Such as bands like The Monkees and The Partridge Family with good vibes and big smiles.
Bit of trivia, Mickey - the drummer - was nearly cast as "Fonzie" out of Happy Days before the role went to Henry Winkler. Such a big part of my youth, watching the Monkees every arvo here in Australia. R.I.P. Davey and Peter

They were the product of TV, they were 4 guys that where put together for a Saturday morning kids show that was part comedy and part music. Always remember making sure to watch it around 10:30'ish.
The Monkees were an artificial band that eventually became a real band. When the Beatles broke so huge, TV execs in the US thought there should be an American equivalent - with a TV show, of course! So they came up with the concept of a goofy band that lived together and made music, and cast the band through auditions. (Mike Nesmith's audition is legendary.) The clips you see of them singing are usually from the TV show, so they're lipsynching to the studio recordings.
I have about 10k record albums and am 58 yrs old. My very first record I ever got was givin to me and was this song on a 45 rpm. I appreciated then and now. The first record I bought was CCR Cosmos Factory when I was 7 yrs old cause I saw them on American Bandstand

One of my earliest memories is of sitting with my older sisters in their room listening to Last Train To Clarksville and Stepping Stone on a little record player.
Pleasant Valley Sunday is one of my favorite by them. 🕊🌎🕊
I loved watching the Monkees TV show when I was little
This is the 60's man, classic tunes that have stood the test of time
I have about 10k record albums and am 58 yrs old. My very first record I ever got was givin to me and was this song on a 45 rpm. I appreciated then and now. The first record I bought was CCR Cosmos Factory when I was 7 yrs old cause I saw them on American Bandstand
You are so respectful, bless you. This was the first music I, at 6, fell in love with. I can still remember every word, just don't ask me what I had for dinner today 😉
I -think- this recording might be from their TV Show which was absolutely, totally crazy!! Worth a search & watch.
For your next Monkees song, I'd suggest "What Am I Doin' Hangin' Round" which Mike sings, or "Pleasant Valley Sunday" which Carole King wrote.
Love, love, love the Guitar rif! ❤️❤️❤️
And their show was so goofy it was fun.
Davy Jones, the reason David Jones changed his name to Bowie.
My new routine. Before I go to bed over here in the UK I watch the videos you posted the previous day (time difference and all that) and find some of the older ones I might have missed. It makes me very happy 😊.
Oh yes get it 💜💜✌🏾✌🏾💜🐒'S they had a t.v. show too
On the other end of the emotional spectrum is Shades of Grey, definitely worth the listen. "When the world and I were young, just yesterday..."
This is my 1st listen to this song & right from the get-go, i had the impression I was listening to the Beatles, because the whole music had a Beatles vibe to it.
One of my earliest memories is of sitting with my older sisters in their room listening to Last Train To Clarksville and Stepping Stone on a little record player. It was probably about the time the record first came out. My sister has since told me how excited she was to buy the album when it came out. I would have been a not even 4.
Luv their songs😍
My 10 year old self has such a crush on Mike Nesmith. The other girls can keep Davy.
Me too!!!! Saw him last year! He is amazing
Amen. Micky Dolenz too. That voice. Davy annoyed me for some reason. 😁
@@dipsydoodle7988 Thanks less davy fans for me lol
I I personally had a major crush on Peter Tork. He was up there with Chad Everett and Bobby Sherman in my book. Oops dated myself. 🤦
Yes!!! I grew up in thr late 70's and 80's and watched their show...had no idea it was re-runs!! I loved all their songs and had a huge crush on Michael!! ❤❤❤
star collector and papa genes blues are also great songs.
"Valerie" Dabg, so many great songs. Btw, Peter (bass player) played 7 instruments (guitar, bass, banjo, piano, French Horn, and two I don't recall) BEFORE he joined the show and became an actor.
“Papa Gene’s Blues” is another good one! 😊
