A quick look at the NAD C700 Streaming Amp. Is it good? Kind of. Watch and see.

  • Thank you to my friend John for loaning me this unit. The NAD C700 is a decent product. It's feature set is very good. It's form factor and layout are also very good. Blue OS is ok. The unit is held back by it's sound quality. It is a bit to "Class D" for my tastes. At $1500.00 it is a good value if you like the way it sounds.

I wouldn't judge Class D by the $1500 NAD C700, you gotta think that the streaming part is $500, preamp is $400, so that only leaves $600 for the amp.
My $2400 NAD C298 class D sounds better than even my Class AB $1500 Parasound 2250v2 or $2800 Arcam PA240.

Very nice unit. Seems streaming receivers seem to be getting popular.
As I mentioned in another video, I recently bought a Marantz Stereo 70s which lets me stream using HEOS. A very attractive feature for me is, I now can link my Marantz SR8015 in ny den with the Marantz Stereo 70s in my study! I can even choose an input in either one of the amps and play it in any HEOS device. I thought this was so neat, I can play a vinyl album in my turntable connected to the SR8015 and listen to the album in my study using the Stereo 70s.
I have to say, as much as I like my annual roon subscription, with both units linked using HEOS, I will probably not renew my roon subscription come January!
Again, my sincere thanks for the review and advice. Regards.

@@OldGuyHifi thanks for your reply! I would compare this to a Wiim Amp. I know it's a fully different price/quality range as the NAD. My application has a lower HiFi requirement. I use it in my kitchen with built in speakers in the ceiling alcove above the counter. It's not ideal in placement. However, just for our everyday radio listening or introducing the kids (or the parents 😁) to some music it works great. This is the spot we hang out the most and I must say, the Wiim Amp is VERY useable for this application and as such by far the most used piece of audio gear used in our family.

We do a similar thing. When we built the house I installed in-walls and in-ceiling throughout the house. I used to have an HK rec'vr in almost every room to run them. Now I have some Ayima amps with blue tooth and we just stream from our phones or tablets. So I totally understand what you are describing. Thx.

    A
    S U P E R B ! assessment of this Gorgeous C700.
NAD should be justifiably proud of its Generosity of feature-set items in this unit!
My (Personal) approach in highly recommending the C700 starts with ENTIRE System cabling, which WOULDN’T BE one red cent above $2400. the lot!
And as for Sound Quality, heavy use of those tone controls, crossover points, and App Eq’s (along with extensive cable research, should yield more high-end “Masters Series” sound. Along with system building, (just like everything else! A very highly rated Power Conditioner could definitely jack performance to MS levels!) In this, DUE DILIGENCE pays off!
    High Flags! for NADs
    C700!

I completely agree with you. They just don't have an all in one at this price. EVO75 is a bit more money with a bit less connectivity but, if it is like the EVO150, it would walk this NAD on sound. Instead of this unit I would get a AXR85 and an MXN10 and be don for about $1K. @@OldGuyHifi I just got my first integrated amp a few months ago. I’ve always used receivers in the past. I got the Cambridge Audio CXA61. Didn’t really need an amp, but wanted to pair a British amp with British speakers that are new to me also. I wanted that “British Sound”, and I must say I really like the rig. It suits my tastes for

@@Norman-bone13 I can't recommend the AXN10/MXN10 highly enough. They sound fantastic. I like the fact that it is Cambridge's in house developed system based on Linux. So no worries about obsolescence. They are still supporting their streamers from 10-12 years ago. I think that is a good indication of their dedication, I know that Cambridge has "open" box & "B" stock units on ebay for $329.00. Let me know what you decide to do. Thanks so much.

I don’t buy stereo gear on credit unless it’s an interest-free deal w/time limit. I’m old and music has always been a major part of my life. • @OldGuyHifi

I am not sure Lenbrook would send me anything after that review. Honestly if you want room correction then spend $150.00 on a WiiM pro and use that. It is essentially the same tech as the NAD scheme. I must be honest and say I am not a big DSP proponent. My room is well treated and was designed from the get go to be acoustically neutral. Thanks for the view and comment.

So bass management is NOT capable of specifying high pass to internal power amp and thus out to speakers?

    • @OldGuyHifi
      @OldGuyHifi  3 місяці тому +1

It doesn't say on the NAD product page but, after some digging I found that it does low pass the main speakers at 18dB per octave based on the sub woofer setting. That's not bad. @@OldGuyHifi "low pass the main speakers"? Low pass is for sub/bass. For the main speakers, it would be a high pass that removes the burden of the lows from the main amp/speakers.

Been saving my pennies to upgrade Node to M10 v2 but announcement of c700 v2 looks interesting. The unit would be in a cabinet so the lack of a touch screen wouldn’t be an issue and is something paid for but not used. This would save me quite a few pennies. I have B & W 606 speakers. I like the brightness and treatment of the top end so, after your comments of this model, will be sure to audition before pulling the trigger.

    Considering M10 v2 or more likely C700 v2.
Interested in how eARC works. I know its purpose, I am already using it in my set up.
At the moment, the ARC is connected to a Marantz streamer. Music source is an early Bluesound Node with no eARC connection. Switching on the TV, as expected, switches on the Marantz in TV mode, so I have to change the Source on the Marantz to use the Node as a source.
If I am using the Node and switch off the TV, then the Marantz switches off and it’s another long walk from the couch to switch it on again and select The Node as the source 😂
So, how does the eARC work on the M10 and C700?
Does switching the TV off affect streaming music?
Does switching the TV on override the streaming music?
Is it possible to display Album Art on the TV?
Is that optional or is it only displayed if selected through some setting or other?
Possible other scenarios I haven’t thought off. Feel free to comment.
Any other comments about the possible upgrade would also be welcome.

    • @OldGuyHifi
      @OldGuyHifi  Місяць тому

e-Arc can't display album art. It is a control protocol only. If you are using the TV remote then yes it will switch off the amp. The easy solution is to use the optical Toslink form your TV to the Marantz and just use the Marantz remote for volume. I have no experience with either of those units using e-Arc. I am no an e-Arc user in my system. I am sorry I don't have better answers for you. Thanks for asking and viewing.

I have a pair of Dali Oberon 7 and I want to use them connected to a TV (hdmi is a must for my wife) and to stream good quality audio via Spotify Connect.
I am currently evaluating Wiim Ultra paired with a power amp, Marantz Stereo 70s, Marantz M1 and this one, the C700. The C700 seems to have the best all-in-one package.
