Loved this. Your enthusiasm is super endearing. Look forward to seeing a full review. Finally was able to place an order for a niche zero so it will be cool to see how this stacks up!
I think the idea is to use the portafilter holder for espresso, then the "collection cup" for filter, so in that case you would probably prefer the larger opening.
Love your shows. Like the fact you've got a Rancilio Silvia M in the background. Thinking of replacing my Rancilio Rocky with this grinder, so keen to know your thoughts on dialling in an espresso specifically with the Silvia.
Reason why cup is not 58mm is because they think you will use the portafilter if you do that and cup for any other brewing method. Having a 58mm cup still doesn't cover the majority of sizes. So easy as that. I am honestly surprised people don't understand that/
cant wait to see the full review! What the hell were they thinking about the dosing cup!?? I hope it's not so they can actually sell us a 58mm dosing cup as an accessory...
I think it's because it's mostly supposed to be for non-espresso drinks, something to be noted is that they have already provided a sort of pseudo dosing funnel through the portafilter holder.
Please please please do a blind tasting battle between Bambino + great grinder (something that's a step up from the Breville smart pro, maybe like a Eureka) and a stock settings and or adjusted dual boiler plus great grinder. This is a big consumer decision, everyone says the grinder is more important, but how cheap is too cheap for the espresso machine?
Just logged in to try it out for you. It gives a super detailed breakdown. Total motor on time, total shots ground, total shots ground in each of the 4 presets, error history... pretty neat!
@@LifestyleLab_ Wow! that is impressive. One of the very few times I agree with IoT. I do not have those features with the Eureka Mignon Facile. I have to guess how many times I have ground and when the burrs need to be replaced.
This uses the same steel burrs Baratza offers as an option for Vario/Forte. Michael Fabian gave Vario (not alicorn aligned) very high remarks for filter coffee.
@@LifestyleLab_ wow thanks for the quick answer! Recently subbed, I like your content and the way you speak. As a non english, I understand you very clearly!
@@LifestyleLab_ i agree honestly. I was looking at it to change my ecm 64mm burr grinder, but i dont think its a good move... Maybe the niche, or i might save more for a ceado e37s
1 week in, the fact that I'm using a different dosing cup is probably my only gripe. Otherwise it might be the best built grinder I have in the studio right now
Having lived with a hopper grinder for several years I could never go back from my single dose grinder I have had for a year now. Mahlkonig needs to cover that gap in their range. You could argue that it's for people who make a lot of espresso at home but if that is the case why did they include a dosing cup too large for a 58mm portafilter? If anyone could create a "Niche Killer" it has to be Mahlkonig due to their brand rep. Are they too chicken to try one wonders?
While I obviously agree with the dosing cup statement, having a hopper fed grinder on hand was an absolute lifesaver over Thanksgiving (Canada) this year. It drastically sped up my process while entertaining. If that's something I planned to do regularly, I'd go with a hopper-fed system every time
@@LifestyleLab_ I didn't say I sold my old hopper grinder. I kept it for the very rare occasions that I do fund raising coffees at the school gala days or any other mass making events. For the 360+ days of the year I make coffee for myself and wife, and even occasional visitors, it's always the single doser. It's a god send which was too long in being addressed in the grinder market place. I drink espresso in the mornings and filter in the afternoons. I'll have 3 or 4 different roasts at hand. The hopper just doesn't work for that.
Yes, the flat burrs on the X54 produce far less fines. Overall a more clean flavour profile, more separation of flavours, significant better for pour over. Espresso also benefits in my opinion

Could you imagine the tiny forklift used to lift that tiny pallet? Adorable
You being baffled by the dosing cup was weirdly hilarious. Great video!
Your excitement is infectious. I googled how much one of these cost even though I don't need one...
Glad you liked the more laid-back video style! :) There was definitely a lot of excitement for this product

A fun unboxing and beautiful grinder, great little mini test, sound and grinding of beans, sweet.
A grinder so fancy it has a pallet!!😅😅 after watching your other reveiw on this i think its gonna be comming to my home soon. I love this grinder

Beautiful & quiet grinder. Does it have an overheating fuse for continue grinding?
The precise dosing cup for 58mm porterfilter is available for sale for USD 34.99. That's why the one you got with grinder is not precision dosing cup.
Now comes with the grinder after the overwhelming amount of confusion. They realized their mistake 👍
@LifestyleLab_ I just got mine here in Canada like a week ago. I got the old one, not the precision 58mm. 🤨
Very good video! Really liked the unboxing!

58mm is the standard. They’ve since changed it to a 58mm cup. I didn’t make sense. They admitted it. I know the engineers.
How the fuck don't you have more subscribers? I have been binging your videos for a while now, great stuff!
Thanks for tuning in!
We're growing the community slowly but surely :)
How does it stack up with the mignion specialita for espresso ?
Seems pretty reasonable to compare since the burrs are similar in size

Truly baffling, but I think I'll be able to forgive them based on my first day of full use

I like the new backdrop
Bravo! Excellent unboxing. Love it ❤️

DIGGING THE NEW SET UP!
Thanks!
Thought a more casual video deserved a more casual backdrop
Now you got me curious....what is the WiFi for in that grinder?
Apparently it will monitor burr wear, and alert you when they need to be replaced, cleaned etc
@@LifestyleLab_ that is actually a very useful integration with tech!

Still looking for the best V60 grinder. Love to see how it compares to de fellow ode, df64, new Vario/w+ and niche
I guess, the Mahlkönig is not suited for filter coffee.
This one will be a good strong contender for sure. Definitely able to keep up with all the options you've mentioned

Can you get smaller hoppers for the X54 ?
There’s a smaller one now yes, AND, I just designed this single dose mod:

Any follow-up now that you've had it for several weeks?
Full review to come!
Lots of exciting videos to get through
I am really surprised the X54 is so much quieter than Vario Home (which it replaced). Wow.
The dosing cup is probably to use with anything else than a portafilter!
But the beauty of a 58mm cup is you can use it with a portafilter AND anything other than a portafilter, haha

Very true!
The dosing cup is for filter coffee only. They want you to put the portafilter in place for espresso! They are saving you a step. Uh, obvious?
Every single other grinder dosing cup I’ve used has been 58mm. A 58mm dosing cup can still be also used for filter. Uh, obvious?
How is it compared to the Niche or the DF64 ?
Time will tell!
Only just started testing

Maybe!
Dosing cup looks more like a drinking cup
