It's all about the set up. If they walked in curves to get there, they will be relaxed. If the ground and the steps are rough so that they can grip, they will be calm and will swim. If you have an anxious cow in one of those, it might drown.
As a child, I always helped the farm workers when we had to get the cattle to the 'dip' - it was funny to watch the calves jumping in. The water was treated with something called 'DDT' or 'double bennix' - which is now banned as it's been classified as hazardous. Not sure what they use now. The cattle were tick-free and healthy.

This is a good idea to keep a farm more sanitary! I’m assuming this washes off the dirt/poop/hay off of the cow’s fur.
