This is my first pair ever. Never had I thought I was gonna get a pair of Air Jordan, I bought these and I like them. I don’t care if they don’t go up in resale value. I’ll keep them for myself. I personally think this is a dope sneaker.

Not true. You can tell by what color ways people wear, how long they been jordan 1 fans and if they just saw it on Instagram and copied someone. Someone wearing the gym reds really isn’t an OG or someone who knows absolutely anything about Jordan 1s or Jordan’s in general. Most of these kids who watch these videos buy all these GRs and think they are sneaker heads and don’t even know the original color says that came out in 1985. I don’t think they’re killing it, if anything resellers are. They buy out the dope colorways so Nike makes these type of repeats for everybody that took L’s. At least that’s what makes sense

As someone only recently getting into the sneakers I actually love this particular shoe a lot only reason is I don’t own a pair of Chicago’s, Bred 1’s etc the only AJ1’s I have are the PSG AJ1’s, ROY and now the gym reds.
It’s always interesting hearing other people’s opinions especially when they have a shit ton of a specific shoe.
Unpopular opinion: Do a proper retro of the 2. No piping, 4 lace holes, correct back tab. Basically give us the 2004 2s again.
I like this color way and color blocking. They are dope and you really can’t go wrong with a bred Jordan 1. Is JB killing the model through repetition? Maybe, but if you like em, wear em.

as someone who just got started with collecting AJ1s, i appreciate the multiple release of this color way since most the other pairs are only available resale. Everyday a new group of collectors come and since the AJ1 silhouette is so timeless, nike will always have a base to sell to.

I don't think they're killing them. The air Jordan 1 as always been the affordable sleeper in the Jordan brand. When I first got back into the sneaker game around 2011. I really wanted a pair of the retro 13. However the most consistent shoe I kept seeing was the Jordan 1. Year after year there were so many colorways that just got overlooked for a pricetag of $130 you just couldn't beat it. Even though the Jordan 1 does sellout you don't hear that much hype about them. I managed to get a pair of Jordan ones from Nike ID and the wheats that came out about a year ago. the Jordan 1 is the most stylish slept on retro shoe that you can always count on
I love them, gotta use the red laces though to take it to the next lvl.
for sneaker collectors, yeah i can see how saturating the market hurts your hobby or business. but for consumers, no, not at all. i bought these without too much fuss for retail and im very happy for that. as for the sneaker, the gloss is barley noticeable in real life. i think the camera and lighting make it look far more glossy than they are. i think they are dope.

Yeezy started as a very hard to get shoe, while Jordan 1s had already been in-stores
15 seconds in and I’m already And immediately answering the Question is Jordan Brand doing to much watering down its shoes so on and so forth, blah blah blah! NO, NO ITS NOT! Give me EVERY COLOR-WAY POSSIBLE in every Jordan Shoe at least 1 THROUGH 15! I want them ALL! I’m personally tired of all the HARD TO GET special edition shoes and not just with Jordan Brand I mean them ALL Yeezy’s included. It’s annoying and extremely frustrating to not be able to get 100 to 200 or even 250 dollar shoes for that original price. We pay double, triple and in some extreme cases Quadruple the amount for a pair of Shoes. I say water down the Market flood it in fact. Keep everyone honest. If the Shoe Industry realized what they are doing by trying to be “Exclusive” with certain shoes they’d stop doing it. Look now days I don’t buy a shoe if I’m not going to actually wear it. I love my Kicks but I refuse to pay more for them then what they actually deserve to be bought for. If it’s a Thousand Dollar Shoe and it’s actually worth a Thousand Dollars I’ll buy but I’m not gonna pay that price for a 200 dollar shoe. I don’t give AF who’s name is attached to it. Jordan, Yeezy, Virgil, Tinker it doesn’t matter. At the end of the day I’m wearing the shoes and there’s a very small possibility I might step in Dogshit with said shoe so.....yeah FLOOD THE MARKET, and let me buy my damn Sneakers!!!

Still have these, anyone else notice they could ve Reverse Chicago 1s? Like the Black and Red are switched on everything, Black swoosh from chicago to red swoosh on these and the sole from red to black, basically reversing the colorway

Mine will arrive to friday from Finishline. Buddy at work brought his in yesterday and I love them. Leather looked great and not as glossy in person. I was planning on spraying some matte finisher on the black, but I’ll probably roll with how they are. Very excited to have in possession. I only have the turbos and crimson tints for 1s.
You made very valid points, Nike needs to slow up on the colorways of Jordan 1s, or they'll end up like Airforce 1s. I still got love for my Air force 1s though, but they did get out of hand with the color releases...
Yeah.. I agree.. don't want the same thing like what happened to the Ultraboost, happened to AJ1.. the market is over saturated with the AJ1,and Nike should put them on cryos for awhile so people can appreciate more when it comes back..
Love the AJ1, would like for JB to take some bigger chances with the colorways though. Everybody loves this shoe rn, time to take some chances and create some legendary color ways that’ll be remember 10-15 years down the line

Also, if you look at it from Nike perspective, it's a shoe made from the same chassis as the Jordan 2s, Dunks, A1s, etc., which can be cheaper on a massive scale to produce, and profitable.
I suggest they release a mid version all they time they make a high top release ! Personally I like the mids because the high tops can get uncomfortable . Can’t be always having to unlace half the shoe just to wear them comfortably

I agree some of the Jordan 1 highs should have never made it to production but I don’t think these are in that camp it’s nice to have some jordan 1 OG highs have a cheap resale value because people who do customs like myself look at shoes like this and see multiple color ways the shoe could be made into by customizing especially ones that were hard to get these could be black toe, breds, Chicago’s with a black outsole, shattered backboards, black and white, hell I’m in the middle of changing a pair of these into shadows that will look vintage with that off white midsole. I think some of these color ways totally bastardize the silhouette though but like you said different strokes for different folks lol

I get where he's coming from in that they're releasing a lot, but as someone who just got the gym reds as my first Jordan 1 I feel like they are targeting the people like me and not those people who have a lot of 1s already. Moreover I got them at retail and now don't have to worry about paying $250+ for any other "red, black and white" colorway.

Idk. it's tough. As much as I would like them to chill on the releases at the same time I want them to release more and more because the more pairs they release the more opportunities for them to release something I do like lol. Overdoing the shoe doesn't ruin it for me personally. I still like 350s, they've done countless AF1s and Dunks and I still love those sneakers.

I think what is really killing the AJ1 are the mid releases. I get that they are a budget friendly release, but so are the lows. IMO, high and low, that's all we need

Keep the Jordan 1s coming. They manage the stock numbers pretty well and color blockings differ enough while throwing in the hype collabs.

If the jordan 1 is iconic on the level of converse chuck Taylor's then the excessive colors shouldn't matter at this point. Some classics has to be beaten and killed so much in too many releases and colorways that....they resurrect through the mainstream...and will possibly be common footwear to non sneaker heads.

Jordan isn't killing the 1. But charging $160 for these basic-ass shoes is highway robbery. This colorway setup is exactly what Converse would do if they wanted to market a basic, cheap basketball sneaker. And these are no different. They look like nothing special, because they aren't special. The Jordan 1 can and should be marketed in crazy colors, premium materials, if that would justify the price. But there is no justification for these. They should be $100 tops.

It’s kinda annoying you used to be able to go to the mall & get lucky every once in awhile & find a somewhat hyped jordan 1 release where I live after release day in my $ize , nowadays where I live the Koreans grab every Jordan 1 size 10 & smaller. Example you can still find these gym reds & them yellow toe 1 mids @ the mall by me but you don’t even to bother asking what the smallest size they’ve got is because the Koreans grabbed EVERYTHING 10 and smaller. It’s really getting annoying. They do the same thing @ the outlet by me. A quick story about the Nike outlet last year on Black Friday , there were several Koreans ripping apart the aisle where the melo 13s were but only taking $izes 10 and under. They reminded me of a pack of hyenas annihilating it’s prey when they were going thru shoe boxes looking for and stashing the money $izes that day! It’s just getting ridiculous. I was actually about blast a Korean bulk buyer in his mouth @ the outlet a few weeks ago that cleaned out all the smaller sizes of the cool grey 11 lows that they had for a steal the day before including my $ize 8 & then had the nerve to come back the next day lookin for more. Was about to hit him right there in the store ...
I wear what I like and I don’t give one shit what anyone thinks. The term hypebeast is so goddamn stupid to me. When I was growing up I shopped at outlet stores for my shoes and not Nike outlet stores. Like jc penny outlet stores. I have always had larger feet and now I’m 38 and my size is 15. I buy a shit tone of crazy looking shoes like the Terra Kegier 5 off-whites and pink foamposites cause I could never get cool ass shoes like that as a kid. All these Jordan 1 colorways are cool as hell to me and they make most all of them I’m a 15. I’ll buy every one of them that I think looks cool regardless of what ANYONE ELSE says. I don’t remember what they were but my first pair of Jordan shoes were from my friend that was more well off than I and he got new shoes so rather than toss his old ones he traded me for some nunchucks and a Homer Simpson doll from Burger King.. 100% no bullshit. They were 2 sizes too small for me but I wore those shoes with so much pride because I FINALLY had some cool shoes and not outlet store British Knights or XJ-9000s yeah I don’t think any shoes coming out these days are killing any brands. Keep making as many color ways of EVERY shoe as possible!

herman 4,5,6,7 (highs and lows) and 13high. Don’t get me wrong, the 1’s are sick and just so classic, but they are just so common.
Any brand is going to beat their most popular product into the ground on purpose. The reason they do this is so that consumers get tired of said product after squeezing as much money out of them and then shift their attention over to the brand's newest product to continue selling, effectively starting the process all over again. Thankfully, I don't think the AJ1 will ever be completely dead seeing as its a classic and a lot of people's favorite shoe. Hype may be gone for a while, but it'll always come back, keeping in mind that the people that do love it always will.
I'm waiting on more royal colorways for the 1. I prefer it more, just not a red guy
