Ollie Lane Yes totally agree! She has a killer voice. I wrote an essay on Carrie and couldn't resist writing a sentence about how amazing her belting is in the show and it only got better in Joseph. I wish I lived in the UK so I could see her but alas until I can I'm just going to settle for fangirling when she likes my tweets.

I saw the production. Actually, the Destruction was an extreme disappointment. Lasers and spinning lights. But post-destruction was "WTF"...a large staircase descending from the flies with Margaret White on them.
I'm so glad that they reworked it - but some of the original orchestrations like the one for 'Carrie' worked so damn well. It's mostly the stuff with the other kids that really needed reworking. In other news, holy damn some of this could literally have been the Wicked of it's day.
It's good that they fixed all those problems with the revival. Now I want to see the revival version in a bigger more expensive production some day just to see how that would go.
An underrated musical in general. While it could use some improvements it is very beautiful. I pray the right revival of the show comes along that it wins the tony awards it rightfully deserves

You should check out the Los Angeles production it’s also a revival where it’s an immersive production.the writers wrote new dialogue and the destruction scene does justice to it, the whole Los Angeles production does justice to the musical itsel.
i think what it suffers from is not enough focus on carrie and the mother. when i watched it i felt like sue was the lead not carrie or her mother. also most of the songs arent that memorable. i think a lot of rewrites are still in order. i would love more dialogue between carrie and her mother and less of songs that have no relevance and arent that good. more of building character. there just needs more dialogue because a few of the songs arent so good to stand on their own. so instead of those just put dialogue.
I don't think there should be a revival, but I do think there should be one last attempt at getting Carrie on to the stage, just as a complete rewrite. I'm currently writing a version that follows the book more faithfully, but I don't think it will really ever go anywhere, I just really enjoy working on the project.

We were young enough to enjoy this. I saw it the last rehearsal day. As bad as some of it was, some parts were remarkably great. This is the first time I’ve ever seen many of these numbers with good video and audio. What a holy mess of a show. But the songs between Carrie and her mother really are moving, which is what I’ve always heard. Particularly Betty Buckley’s solo. Wow. It’s beautiful.

Well, we don't know exactly how much of the show was shot to create this press reel, as the raw footage has yet to surface. No doubt they shot more than just the 15 minutes that appears here.
Hopefully it'll surface soon because before they cut some parts off you can tell that some of the songs continue because they fade out. Anyway thanks for replying 😊

well i think this was more based off of the original movie, not really the book, and the revival was based more off of kinda its own. time, because it seems early 2000’s based, but it seems more based off of the book.

The actresses are great and the actors are too! The show is kinda all over the place and i think the revival does it great and clean. I think this version just went amazing and loud and epic, and the revival kept the factor but toned it down a bit :)

Mistaking Grease for Greece was the true turning point for this production. It could have been a very normal "breakfast club " style show but they went SO FAR into the stratosphere with interpretation that it looks more like a pastiche Debbie Allen choreography didnt fit and tbh I've believed for decades that she was overrated. Now she teaches children which is exactly where she needs to stay. She was never able to stick to the structure of traditional dance and it aged her work very early on. As a former dancer, her choreography is Community Theater level at best

I agree. I love this show. I feel it was better then the revival. The things that ruined it for critics and people, are exactly what you said. Sets, Costumes, and at some points, choreography. The score and margaret/carrie are some bright points of this show. Would've been cool to see this show run more then 5 performances.
Great cast. Some beautiful melodies, but also some embarrassingly bad lyrics. I also think the show should’ve maintained the dark, horror feel of the movie. Too glitzy in many spots. It reminds me more of Fame than a horror film. But overall, it is not the worst show of all time like people claim.
I remember seeing the tv teaser in the late 80's (or early 90's) and wondered "How are they going to turn a Stephen Book/'76 horror film into a musical?" 🤨🤷♀
The reason was that the costume designer was asked to make the outfits in the style of 'Grease' (The Movie) But the costume designer thought they meant 'Greece' (The Country) and therefore made the costumes have a ancient greece toga feel to them. It was a miscommunication

There is nothing else on this tape (that I know of) besides the reviewers reel. This was sent to potential critics and licensed for commercial use. You will see this footage used in most reviews made by news stations during the time period.
