      Ollie Lane Yes totally agree! She has a killer voice. I wrote an essay on Carrie and couldn't resist writing a sentence about how amazing her belting is in the show and it only got better in Joseph. I wish I lived in the UK so I could see her but alas until I can I'm just going to settle for fangirling when she likes my tweets.

      Linzi Hately is amazing. I just love her as Éponine. So powerful! In "Carrie" Those gym class and ensemble scenes are very problematic to me but every time Linzi sings I melt. She's on Twitter! Now I know who I'm gonna follow! I had heard about her Les Mis scream recently.

    • @oliver91ist
      @oliver91ist 7 років тому +2

      cuppajess I know there is a couple of videos of her in Joseph including the Joseph Remix Music Video and there is a live bootleg on trading sites, have you seen those?

      Ollie Lane I've seen all I can find of Joseph that isn't on trading sites! I wish I had stuff to trade because I need that and her version of Chicago in my life. Also Mamma Mia for good measure :P (I've heard her Slipping Through My Fingers was amazing). PS go figure Joseph just came up on my shuffle!

      cuppajess Linzi also did a video with Seth Rudetsky which a clip is on UA-cam where she talks about going from Carrie to Les Mis and finding out that her prerecorded scream is still used in the London production.

      You should check out the Los Angeles production it’s also a revival where it’s an immersive production.the writers wrote new dialogue and the destruction scene does justice to it, the whole Los Angeles production does justice to the musical itsel.

    • @christophergraham6571
      @christophergraham6571 6 років тому +12

      i think what it suffers from is not enough focus on carrie and the mother. when i watched it i felt like sue was the lead not carrie or her mother. also most of the songs arent that memorable. i think a lot of rewrites are still in order. i would love more dialogue between carrie and her mother and less of songs that have no relevance and arent that good. more of building character. there just needs more dialogue because a few of the songs arent so good to stand on their own. so instead of those just put dialogue.

    Mistaking Grease for Greece was the true turning point for this production.
    It could have been a very normal "breakfast club " style show but they went SO FAR into the stratosphere with interpretation that it looks more like a pastiche
    Debbie Allen choreography didnt fit and tbh I've believed for decades that she was overrated.
    Now she teaches children which is exactly where she needs to stay. She was never able to stick to the structure of traditional dance and it aged her work very early on. As a former dancer, her choreography is Community Theater level at best

      I agree. I love this show. I feel it was better then the revival. The things that ruined it for critics and people, are exactly what you said. Sets, Costumes, and at some points, choreography. The score and margaret/carrie are some bright points of this show. Would've been cool to see this show run more then 5 performances.

    Great cast. Some beautiful melodies, but also some embarrassingly bad lyrics. I also think the show should’ve maintained the dark, horror feel of the movie. Too glitzy in many spots. It reminds me more of Fame than a horror film. But overall, it is not the worst show of all time like people claim.

    I remember seeing the tv teaser in the late 80's (or early 90's) and wondered "How are they going to turn a Stephen Book/'76 horror film into a musical?" 🤨🤷‍♀

      The reason was that the costume designer was asked to make the outfits in the style of 'Grease' (The Movie) But the costume designer thought they meant 'Greece' (The Country) and therefore made the costumes have a ancient greece toga feel to them. It was a miscommunication

    Was there something else on this tape? It's so weird to hear stuff in-between, but it's either just tape-echo or it was recorded over something else? Or both?

      There is nothing else on this tape (that I know of) besides the reviewers reel. This was sent to potential critics and licensed for commercial use. You will see this footage used in most reviews made by news stations during the time period.

    Honestly, this show is far from perfect-I wouldn’t even say it’s “good.” But it is curious that horrible shows like Grease and Mamma Mia go on to legendary status while this show doesn’t even get a month.

      Having a shady producer abscond with all the initial capital money will do that to a show. They didn’t have a penny left to even finish off the week.
