this is such a small thing but margaret and carrie wearing red bothers me. i specifically remember an entire scene in the book about how margaret refused to allow carrie to wear any shades of red because it was sinful. pretty sure carrie’s prom dress was red in the book to defy her mother or something. i know they change it in the movies to make it pink, which is understandable so it’d show the blood better
Also why is Margret wearing a short dress? She would never wear that she always dresses modestly also did she have a cigarette? She would never smoke plus in the book she hit a girl when she was in school with her purse because that girl was smoking.
@@sim-nu9nf because she considered it "saving her" "Was I so foolish to think I could pray when theres only one chance I could save you. I gave you life, I can take it away."

Akira Todoroki she always has lol I love her. I wish she could of conveyed the character differently. The staging held her back how crazy she could get
I just realized- until you name me, you can't change me. CARRIE STARTS TO LEARN TO NOT BE CHANGED BY OTHERS RIGHT WHEN SHE SINGS ABOUT NOT BEING CALLED BY HER NAME.
I think the sexy slip and dressing robe are a reference to Betty Buckley's "When There's No One" outfit in the original, but she only wore it in ONE scene.
I know this is just a high school play version of the original but this song had so much raw passion behind it. Like the last 20-30 seconds the first time I heard this I got goosebumps ohhh that voice is good! Edit: I personally think this version of this song was better than the original
It wasn't a match but it represented a match (like , narratively it's a match but a match is too small to be seen clearly in a theater and they weren't actually going to burn her so it was probably like a pencil or something) I really don't think it's a cigarrette bc someone who thought lipstick is a sin probably doesn't smoke
@@saribrenes9498 the mother's religious fervour is directly in line with her sexual abuse. Lipstick, puberty, pretty clothes are all "invitations" for the devil to influence Carrie. This might be a nitpick, but it bothered me that Margaret was basically wearing a bathrobe the entire time, which is not something her character would wear.
Wonderful performances, just bad costume choice for Margaret White. Very distracting playing with the dressing gown. But amazing vocals and performances. Xx
Oh, this charater drive me nuts. She's a exemple of a great mother Edit: Let me repeat myself, the character of the mother drives me nuts, I hate the mother, not Carie. And, of course the last phrase was sarcasm

Yea. I felt this comment.
As a trans guy, i can relate
Yeah, mine too, but it's not really a curse.

that's really interesting to me. makes me want to read the book. I wonder why they chose to have her wear red here
In the book the dress is also red, but Margareth thinks that its pink
The Bible is red too
It adds to Margret's crazy. Pink is blood red in her twisted mind ...and indeed a better fit for getting doused in pigs blood. It's a good choice.
Also why is Margret wearing a short dress? She would never wear that she always dresses modestly also did she have a cigarette? She would never smoke plus in the book she hit a girl when she was in school with her purse because that girl was smoking.
I love how instead of angry the mom is really more desperate, showing carrie the bible and all that its really good i love it

I love this, you can see that Carries Mum loves her daughter so much it's just her mental illness warps that love in terrible ways.
I totally agree! And you see more of that theory in evening prayers

Yeah, Alice Ripley plays a very very very good mentally ill mother.
I feel like she uses her beliefs to justify the things that her mental illness causes.
The fact that Alice can sing high soprano is "Evening Prayers" and sing low alto here blows my mind
What is her low note here? I'm a little deaf so I can't really tell
She’s a mezzo soprano it’s very common

Even in only a bathrobe Alice controls the stage and is so much intense then half of the Actresses on the white way right now.

@@stateofgrace03 I’m not a fan of how it was staged.
The staging and blocking is soooo bland.
It was so cool when she said “WELL UNDERSTAND!!!”
Is it just me or does Keaton look like a younger Winona Ryder??
Or like a younger version of the girl from the Blair witch project
A younger version would be Veronica Sawyer from the movie

Great parenting lesson right here.

By far my favourite Carrie ever
I love Keaton obviously but I’ve been an Alice Ripley fan for so long and she’s so good
Alice Ripley’s voice is amazing. She’s a powerhouse.
In a way, Carrie’s mom was right. There are times when periods do feel like a curse.
If you can please could you do the evening prayers song 😀 I love Alice Ripleys voice with Keaton's x

I would luv to hear Emily Skinner sing "and Eve was weak," &. "when there's no one"
I'VE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR SO LONG! Emily would be an excellent Margaret.
God I love Alice Ripley SO MUCH shes amazing
I love Alice Ripley. Got to see her in Sunset BLVD...and Side Show. This production was amazing!
I mean it really says they were both cursed, Adam was cursed to work by the sweat of his brow and Eve was cursed to suffer the pain of childbirth

That’s because it’s her haha
There is something insidiously chilling about Miss Ripley’s interpretation of Eve Was Weak.
What's wrong with Margret? Is she mentally ill? Is she just crazy? Was she traumatized as a teenager or a kid? WHATS WRONG WITH HER?!
