Jennifer's style is INTENTIONAL. She blends classical technique with gospel and some unconventional elements. Not everybody's cup of tea but her talent is astonishing

Gotta add my three cents. Let's be clear. There are few singers on the planet who can achieve what Jennifer Holiday can achieve with her voice. She has a thousand colors: she growls, she communicates desperation and pain; she strokes and caresses, she consoles; she insists. I saw her sing this live on Broadway in 1982. The song came in the third act of the musical. It was Effie's first post-Dreams single after she'd fell on hard times managed to get a manager again. In the first and second act we'd heard Effie growl, groan, modulate, scream, riff and belt us into euphoria. On this song, however, she managed to sing with a sweetness that was so unexpected it made me wonder if there was anything Ms. Holliday couldn't do with her extraordinary voice. While I appreciate the dynamics she displays here, I wish we could hear that sweet fragile longing she conveyed in the original version. It was without bravado. In fact, it was so painful it broke your heart in a moment when you thought she couldn't possibly break your heart twice in the same show (and for that matter, in a different way). Still love her though. I always will. When will Broadway write another original role for her?

I disagree. I’m a huge fan. Her style is still there, but her range has decreased DRAMATICALLY due to incorrect singing. Her keys are all in the toilet now. Patti, Chaka, Natalie Cole, Anita Baker and the like sang songs in their original keys way past what were witnessing here.

Every Jennifer holiday performance is an experience!! She gives you everything she's got and there's no equal to that power in her voice. I happen to enjoy every facial expression because it shows how much power and control she has over her breath and that she's focused on the enjoyment the listener receives. Jennifer is a consummate entertainer and I adore her.

She allows you see her raw emotions. Something to not take lightly or for granted. It's a kind of vulnerability that is uncommon in music, and even more so in relationships. I love her.

2018 - Jennifer show the kids what singing is!. I like this twist/rendition of this song! Sang baby! Nothing about this sucks; she's truly amazing! She's showing what a seasoned controlled singer she is. She will sing you under a church pew! SAAAANNNGGG. BAAAABABBBy

Wow Jennifer Holiday. I was watching and talking to the screen as though I was actually there saying "sing" several times and for me that's when you know you're blowing. There has got to be an instrument built inside of her. and the range, fantastic.

The major issue that Jennifer had in the start of her career is that people didn’t know how to write songs for her that showed off her gift. You have to listen to her carefully and see where and when her talent shines…and to catch, you have to let her lead and let the music follow. When you do that, let her cut loose and record… and then guess what, you have a hit song!!! She delivers the song with emotion and feelings, you can’t loose at all…
