    You can roll an arrow on your thigh and feel the spine. It’s a trick we would do when building fly rods needing to align the the spine of the blank for eye placement. The crazy thing is how much variance there is between the spine thickness from one arrow to another. If you do this prior to fletching, it almost completely eliminates the need to knock tune.

    OMG guys, once again you have provided me with a new tool to help me shoot better. I have never nock tuned my arrows, but I will now.

    Nock tuning is one thing I have never had to do in my 62 years. Once properly bare shaft tuned and using a properly made broadhead, they all hit where my field points have for my whole life. Now it seems everyone but me needs to nock tune their arrows. Maybe they are not bare shaft tuning done enough. You do know that the final steps in tuning is to adjust the brace height until that arrow hits dead perfect. Many don’t know this and are fiddling with stuff that does not need fiddled with.

    Great info but ivwould advise against rotating the nock/arrows while on the string. It causes fatigue and microfractures in the nock effectively ruining accuracy as the nocks dont fit the same anymore

    I really like these shorter form tips and tricks type videos. I have definitely heard of nock tuning, but mostly when shooting bareshaft that way you know where to put the cock vane. Must not need to do that with such an aggressive helical? Silver sharpie works well too so you can line the nock up again if it gets twisted. Almost like a return to zero on a Leupold rifle scope turret.
    Thanks 🙏 sharing guys, I definitely need to do that with these arrows I am trying to build up for the first time after always using pre fletched from my local Cabela’s. 🏹🦌

    Thanks for the great information. I also find it very interesting to know about arrow set up, not many guys say what Broadheads and vanes they use and I always wonder! Thanks again for that info. Good luck hunting and I look forward to more videos.

    Nock tuning pending what type of rest an archer is shooting you may have to strip the vanes off. Now there are broad-head tuning spacers for namely, imo for 2 blades, because the arrow point weight is. not concentric.

    I’ve been nock tuning for a good while now. Always take a sharpie or a paint pen to make a long lasting note. But for the most point I find the spine is very consistent with Black Eagle I use, and nock tuning them is quick work.

    I nock tune all my arrows bareshaft. Mark it up then fletch all with odd vane in same orientation (up or out). My OCD kicks in 😂 . When i screw on my annihilator broadheads they normally shoot just like my field points. Only had one out of two dozen that i had to tweak the nock with broadhead. Probably one of the arrows i took less time on when they were bareshaft. By the end of 24 arrows i was just ready to be done

      Brad here. I really do like how well the Annihilators fly! I don’t have to do much tuning with them. Have you noticed the same thing?

      Surprisingly they fly just like my field points. I shoot the regular size and dont have to mess with them at all. Killed a big body buck last year and the wound channel was ridiculous. I love the broadheads.
      Ill shoot broadhead then field point out to 75yds (max yardage with my bow/arrow build) and as long as i put good shots down range they hit withing an inch or two which is good for me. I do one western hunt in SD west river for mule deer but most of the time im shooting 20yds or less in southern IL

      I do the same thing. They all shoot the exact same before I fletch. It’s a pain but well worth the effort.

    One reason why many older hunters don't know about this, is aluminum arrows were extruded. So there was no seam. Also, the more energy you add to the arrow, the less forgiveness you have. As always, great video!

    This is amazing information! Thanks for dropping this video. I've been in panick mode trying to figure out how I'm breaking arrows at 20-30 and still all over the place at 40+. Just about ready to sell the bow and call it unforgiving 😂 Definitely a tune issue and one I plan on fixing ASAP. You might have just changed the course of my season! Thanks again.

    Good stuff. Often that adjustment is the most minute left or right tweak of the rest too but absolutely shoot those BHs on every arrow to ensure the tune. It’s fun but can be frustrating 😆

    Carbon fibre spines are the same with fishing rods and preferably they should line up with the eyes

    The pse bow revealed!

  • @ВладимирПрименко-о5б

    In order for brodheads to fly, you first need to properly adjust the bow.The bow is set up correctly if an arrow with plumage and without plumage with a sports tip hits the same place from 30m.

    I listened to the Podcast while hiking with my dog, but I thought I'd come back and watch it. Have you tried to nock tune your arrows as bare shafts and compared them to arrows nock tuned after being fletched and with broadheads installed?

    • @GrittyGearAndPodcast
      @GrittyGearAndPodcast  2 роки тому

      I have done this. I got similar results. All my arrows are flying perfect now without the bare shaft tuning. But it’s nice if you want a cock vane that’s a different color to match the spine. All my fletchings are the same color though.

    I also put a number on my fletching (1-12) so I know if I have one that's a problem. Then you can shoot is as a last resort and shoot your best behavers first.

    I have been nock tunning last couple years with positive results.
    My question is, I have one practice broadhead. Valkerye 175g shortbus. I do not shoot the others. Just make sure that on hunting arrow, practice broadhead lines up the same when screwed in as sharp ready to hunt broadhead. Am I out to lunch for not shooting all broadheads??? With quality of Valkerye I don't see an issue. I have their sharpening system. Just hate touching up heads and possibly making them worse.

    • @GrittyGearAndPodcast
      @GrittyGearAndPodcast  2 роки тому

      I wouldn't think so. You can do this with most broadheads as long as they pretty consistent in weight.
