  • When the weather gets cooler, sweatshirt fabric is one of my favourite materials to sew with. Not only does it make for the comfiest clothes, it’s also pretty easy to sew - woohoo! Sweatshirt fabrics - by which I mean sweatshirt fleece, loopback or French terry - generally have a low stretch percentage so, unlike many other knit fabrics, they are easy to cut, handle and stitch without stretching out of shape or creating rippled seams.

This was perfect! I am sewing fabric to the inside of a sweater that I cut a jack-o’-lantern face out of so when I’m done it’ll almost look like I’m wearing a black shirt underneath but it’ll be sewn directly to it and I’m very excited because this video was very helpful

Fantastic tutorial Tilly. I have a Janome and been trying out different stitches before sewing my Billie. I like the lightning stitch the best, what stitch setting do you recommend and pressure foot setting to avoid waves?

Great tips Tilly! I have a question about the decal on the blue sweatshirt - did you make it yourself (like with a Cricut) or is that something that can be bought or downloaded? I love it!!!

Hi Rory, it was made with Happy Fabric iron-on vinyl using a machine to cut them out. We had it as a free gift for our newsletter subscribers when purchasing our new Billie pattern, and we don't have any available to buy separately I'm afraid x

Hi I’m going to be making a hoodie dress and was wondering what is the name of the fabric I should get to make it with?

    That was great.
How about a new pattern for a cardigan with normal sleeves.
Not crazy about the bat sleeves on the bertha.
I imagine you could do a lovely one.
