My biggest gripe is how long/slow the steering rack is. It feels like I have to turn the wheel so much more than previous cars I’ve owned. Becomes a bit of a chore driving through the twisties! Also as you said the gearbox, it gets very confused if you slow down without coming to a complete stop!
I was wondering, do you have the smartphone integration package? What do you think about that? I've heard its only 7 inches on the 10 inch screens or is that not true?
My car has it available but not enabled. You can only have the smartphone integration on models fitted with the executive, premium or premium plus pack... so to answer your question! yes you have to have the 10 inch media screen unfortunately... However, build specs vary by country too. So depending on location it could be different... Hope this helps and feel free to subscribe and stick around! Let me know if you have any other queries! :)
@Femz A sorry! I only just saw this comment, so the smartphone integration is already there but you have to pay the one time subscription which is like £300 in order to use Android auto/apple car play
So I’ve had a few issues, the belt tensioner had to be replaced and the gearbox used to be a little bit temperamental, however it had both these issues addressed and since then I haven’t had any issues! :)
Since making this video I have just noticed how annoyingly poor the ground clearance is, even for a hatchback it’s pretty bad! Not sure how often you find speed bumps in Canada but in England they are everywhere so it’s annoying having to slow right down and get one wheel up on the bumper first!
Does it roll back a bit when starting at a small hill? Mine does for some reason since day one, and I’ve heard people say it’s because of the dual clutch transmission.
I’m highlighting the issue with the seat design yes, the headrest because it’s fixed forces you to sit in a more upright position that is comfortable but yet the seat is still leaned back in the boot. It’s just a strange design in my opinion…
I haven’t posted in a while because of uni but I still try and stay active on the account! I still own the car it’s at 45000 miles now! Still going strong plenty of problems though!
Yeah definitely it was my second car and it was a good jump! It’s not massively engaging like a i30n but it’s good enough fun round the B roads whilst being comfy on the motorway
5:59 The gearbox doesn't lurch from a standstill. It always stops in 2nd and only downshifts to first going from a standstill when the driver presses the accelerator. Pretty much in any gear it only adequately downshifts after you press the accelerator. mercedes DCT are stone age like compared to a DSG. Even worse if its the 8G version. Nothing but a "fake" 8spd gearbox where they simulate the 8th gear by a combination of three other gears, hence all the jerkiness, especially in the lower gears. And the clunks... oh my... Sometimes you wonder if it has crapped out some parts along the way. Absolute crap cars considering their price. Notice you did not complain about SRS faults. Too soon or were you lucky enough to not experience them?
Would you say the gearbox would put you off buying one? Been pretty stuck on getting an A250 for a few weeks now, watched your other video on loving it too
So I should probably make an update video to this! But I actually took it to the dealer and they did an update on the gearbox map for me which seems to have solved the issues I had! It can occasionally be jolty when cold but when it’s warmed up it’s actually very responsive! So definitely go for it if your considering :))
Honestly as harsh as I am in this review, that’s because I was purposely finding the bad bits! It’s fast enough for a bit of fun but practical and small enough to use for family’s/take to the shops and not struggle to park it!
How do your find it while driving? mine used to be a smooth ride but now it's so loud when I hit any bump. I'm tempted to get rid of mine as I've been having many issues with it lately.
When I was looking at the A class this issue of space cam up quite a bit. In the end I went for the B Class. Perhaps not as sporty looking as the A but it has far more space front/rear and boot and easily accommodates at least 4 people over 6 feet tall with comfort. Lane assist will try to drag you back if you go over a solid white lane but not broken lanes where it will just vibrate through the wheel.
Yeah see currently I don’t take many passengers but obviously if I had a family I wouldn’t be able to fit them all comfortably! Yeah that’s what mine should do with the lane assist! But unfortunately it fails to read the difference between solid and broken white lines occasionally so when I am trying to overtake it drags me back sometimes nearly causing me to crash. Mercedes said they would look into it but they don’t seem to know what’s wrong ☹️
@@archieb6065 Probably easier just to switch it off. I know you want a feature to work but if its not working properly and puts in you in danger then keep it off. It is a bit of a gimmick anyway. Keep up the good work video wise :-)

Hi Archie...great video. Just a question...how come your A250 has the steel/chrome borders on the windows? I sold the car about a year ago. When it was sold it had about 6 different issues, electrical problems where the central screen wouldn’t switch on and then when it did it wouldn’t turn off once you stopped the car The seat tore along the stitching Twice, both times they were replaced under warranty but it happened a third time just before I sold it so I just left it as I couldn’t be asked. A weird rattle from the engine on warm startup, Mercedes couldn’t find anything Problems with the lane assist and active brake system causing them to constantly deactivate at random times Car would jolt and judder when pulling away from stationary It also did this weird thing in traffic where it couldn’t decide if it wanted to have the stop start activated and so the engine would just switch on and off all the time. Like literally every 2 seconds. In the end I just turned stop start off everytime I got in it I owned it for 2 years, did 50000 miles in it but still, it never should have had so many issues for such a new car. Mercedes were alright at sorting many of the prior issues out but in the end I just traded the car in. They never argued against my warranty but I wouldn’t ever own one of these without warranty. Genuinely they are great cars when they work and lovely to drive, no matter what anyone says, they just have a lot of issues that constantly come up. If your thinking about getting a new one then your more than welcome too. Just be mindful that they aren’t the most reliable :) To clarify I sold it back to the dealer, they repaired everything and it went back on the market for exactly what I got paid for it. Have had my A200d since April 2021 - worst car ever. Infotainment system keeps on resetting itself - the dealership cannot trace it as no faults are logged - this happens every 5 days. Rattles galore: car spent 3 weeks at dealership - whole dashboard had to be dismantled - problem was poor built quality and head unit not properly fitted. The rattle noise went away for 2 days - it's back. Left hand vent had to be replaced as this rattled incessantly. Door trim squeaks; B-pillar cover squeaks - overall poor quality plastics. Ambient lighting resetting itself occasionally and turns itself off for no reason. Gearbox: I have driven Audi A3 S-tronics before but this MB 8-speed dual clutch is laughable. Overall a sub-standard car.

I think you need to do your research on the car 😉 a220 and a250 engines came with a 7 speed torque converter auto! Only the amg cars and the 180/200 came with DCT transmissions
I have this exact model - it is the worst car i've ever owned. . . really poor build quality, full of noises and squeaks. Engine is horribly noisy, gearbox dopey and overall just an unpleasant drive for the money. can't wait to get rid of it and swap it for something decent!
It's an A250e AMG line saloon.... looks pretty to be fair and loads of kit, but a huge case of style over substance 😂.... it's put me off Mercedes for life....
I don't think the hybrid system helps tbh. It's just not very well integrated, and the gearbox is snatchy and downshifts without warning. Pleasingly I've just ordered a replacement for it!!!! Gone for a BMW I4. Fingers crossed it doesn't squeak and rattle!
go buy opel or ford for same money if you don't like Mercedes :) its A class, you must understand , its budget model off all of models :) and its a beautiful car for same price as other brands! also, lane assistant and gearbox its ok, its just your as driver shitty experience with it :) grow up mate :) nothing wrong with this car , i mean any of your mentioned things- as i said- get ford fiesta - you be happy :)
i just can’t decide what car to buy. i really love the a250e but the small trunk and the horrendous leg space in the back really puts me off. but it is the only hybrid car that can realistically go 50+ km pure electric which would be absolutely perfect for me
Don’t get put off by the boot space or the legroom! It’s not great but if you don’t regularly carry passengers in the back and carry luggage at the same time then you can just put the rear seats down!
Seriously? Remember that not everyone is the same size as you, has the same likes and dislikes as you and uses the car in the same way as you. Get your facts right; gearbox type is wrong plus the fit of switch gear in many cars is 'loose', it's designed that way. The less said about the curbing issue the better. Hate is a very strong word possibly best avoided, I would suggest that you dislike some of the things that you mentioned and others were simply padding to make up the numbers so that you made it to the magic "10 things" that you *HATE* about your very nice car. Content just for the sake of generating content. Poor, opinionated and not very helpful at all.
The video has helped the 161 people who have liked the video! I appreciate nobody is the same as me but that’s why the video is titled things “I” hate not “everyone” hates! If you look in the comments I’ve already admitted my mistake regarding the gearbox and yes the switch might be fitted like that but it’s still a terrible gearbox none the less! The curbing was again something i knew was my fault but was more a warning to others to be cautious… hate is a strong word but it’s also one that’s used all over UA-cam! Overall though thank you for your wonderful comment! Not only have you viewed my video but you’ve also boosted my algorithm to reach more accounts that I can help by commenting!
I personally think the Audi A3 Sportback and saloon models are better looking cars and are built in a better way, inside and out...plus - they're a lot cheaper to buy, maintain and seem to be a lot more popular than these Mercedes A Class cars as there're a lot more of them on the roads too!!!
I think you’ll find most modern interiors are filled with cheap plastic unfortunately even high end cars like Rolls Royce have some plastic that feels “cheap”.

They might well be? The uk spec is 100% the 7 speed auto, if she has 8 gears then it is the DCT! If not then it’s a auto with a torque converter
I’ve just had a look, there is a lot of mixed articles on it! Some say it’s not a DCT and some say it is?
Wish i watched this before signing the lease for an a200 (2021) a month ago!
Honestly don’t stress! It’s a pain but it’s still a gorgeous car, I’ll be doing an update video on it as a lot has happened since this video!
how has it been g
I have this exact model - it is the worst car i've ever owned. . . really poor build quality, full of noises and squeaks. Engine is horribly noisy, gearbox dopey and overall just an unpleasant drive for the money. can't wait to get rid of it and swap it for something decent!
Which model you have?
It's an A250e AMG line saloon.... looks pretty to be fair and loads of kit, but a huge case of style over substance 😂.... it's put me off Mercedes for life....
@@stevieC-x1l i have a200. I like it but i do agree the squeky noises etc is UNACCEPTABLE for the price we pay..
I don't think the hybrid system helps tbh. It's just not very well integrated, and the gearbox is snatchy and downshifts without warning. Pleasingly I've just ordered a replacement for it!!!! Gone for a BMW I4. Fingers crossed it doesn't squeak and rattle!
Agreed. Just ordered a BMW I4 to replace it.... so much better made feeling....
Agree with what you said, I got the 2016 premium model that’s doesn’t look or feel premium
Yeah I mean it’s a lovely car don’t get me wrong and I understand it’s the cheapest Mercedes but it’s frustrating that a lot of the tech goes wrong!
I have the a250e and the gearbox is TRASH. I wouldn’t buy a petrol version of this car EVER.
naaaah thats not so bad, and who does this shit with his car, drive and enjoy it
go buy opel or ford for same money if you don't like Mercedes :) its A class, you must understand , its budget model off all of models :) and its a beautiful car for same price as other brands! also, lane assistant and gearbox its ok, its just your as driver shitty experience with it :) grow up mate :) nothing wrong with this car , i mean any of your mentioned things- as i said- get ford fiesta - you be happy :)
archie love the car !!!!
Thank you! Hope you’ll stick around for more car content! 😊
i just can’t decide what car to buy. i really love the a250e but the small trunk and the horrendous leg space in the back really puts me off.
but it is the only hybrid car that can realistically go 50+ km pure electric which would be absolutely perfect for me
Don’t get put off by the boot space or the legroom! It’s not great but if you don’t regularly carry passengers in the back and carry luggage at the same time then you can just put the rear seats down!
Go for the A 250e, its a brilliant car.
curb rash was all you mate.
Never would deny it wasn’t, however the fact that I’ve only ever knowingly done it once and yet it’s on 3 of the wheels just shows how easy it is…
Paying for the badge and it's one of their cheaper models. They need to save money somewhere- build quality and materials.
Interesting
To be fair it sounds like a crap car 😂
Mercedes interior quality is total rubish.. but people like to show off...
I think you’ll find most modern interiors are filled with cheap plastic unfortunately even high end cars like Rolls Royce have some plastic that feels “cheap”.
This lane safety feature is really concerning plus out right dangerous. Bloody computers !
Can you turn off line asist?
What’s the mpg
