- How to install heated grips on a Harley Road Glide, Street Glide, or Touring model using grips #56100034 plug and play no modification or wire cuting neaded. Also no extra wire harness
You gave me a bit of resolution with this because I have always thought that it would be silly for the MOCO to put these bikes out without a provision in the factory wiring harness to accommodate heated grips. I mean, hey, we don’t all have the advantage of living where it is warm 8 months of the year. And being they originated in one of our national freezer boxes called, Wisconsin, the MOCO should take that into account if they want to be worth their oatmeal.
A guy who had them installed on his 2017 sg said harley had to remove the tank and do so many things. That kept me from getting a set . I dread taking my bike to harley for things i can do . Watching your video has opened up the idea of actually installing a set. Thanks for sharing, Pete
Thanks a million for telling us about the cap on that connector! I would have never figured that out and the previous 5 videos I watched on Harley heated grips didn’t mention it. You saved me a ton of frustration.
I’m glad it was helpful. Thank you.
The best Roadglide heated grip video!!!! By far!!!! Thank you
On the control side (clutch side) 2 sets of wires come through the handle bars, red and black set and a black and white set. Black an white connects to the throttle side heated grip, the red and black set plugs into a purple and black set on mine (I had heated grips prior to installing different handlebars). My question is: was your power for the heated grips on the left side under the speedometer?
Merci, ce vidéo m'a beaucoup aidé pour installer mes hand grips heated.
Good to know. I keep reading that you need another set of wires aside from the grip kit. Now I know just the grip kit will do and that's exactley what I thought since my 19 Ultra is prewired
Can't find pre wire for power on 2019 road glide ultra...
I can verify. There is a plug with a black and purple wire feeding it with the blank in it. It works with run and accessory switched on. My bike is a 2015 RGS.
What are the extra wires for in the kit? Are the extensions in case you run taller bars? I have a 14 streetglide and was thinking the wires are going to be too short without extensions. Thanks
Hello Sir,
Thank you for putting this video. I own 2020 road glide and I installed the same heated grips, but it doesn’t heat up. I switched the the connection to see if I have power and the throttle side was heating up quickly and non stop, to the point it starts to burn. I switched the wires back and nothing is working.
Any suggestions
I wanted to confirm you didn't have to remove the fuel tank? The instructions in my kit say remove the tank, but I have a 2014 Street Glide and I think it should be the same process as yours.
My instructions told me to remove tank too. But I did not need too.
BigKirbMotors, I've installed the Kahuna heated grips. Everything is plug and play but I am unable to find the power side. Any suggestions. I have 2017 Road Glide Ultra.
I'm having the same problem on 2019 road glide ultra
I’m having the same problem. I can’t see a power line in there beside that ground line on the left. There is the power to the throttle side that is part of the tbw harness. But the plug for the second line is not there as far as I can see. If this is the case, you have to remove the tank and use the harness extensions to run the harness that installs to the battery and connects the harness and grip harness.
It doesn't seem that my 2016 Road Glide Ultra has that power wire. I have dug through the harness and I don't see it anywhere. I'm confused....
I've learned after digging around, that this power plug is not in a 2016 Road Glide Ultra and you will need to add it.
Appreciate your help! I just picked up some Kahuna heated grips for my 17 RG Special.
Installing new KST 12" Pathfinders so figured heated grips would be easier at this point.
So you don't need any of the accessory wiring kits that Harley recommends, right? Thanks again.
how did you plug the throttle side grip in? how is the connection to the other one made? or how is the connection to the bike made? Is there something that plugs in? Or will it just be obvious once you're there? I'm about to do bars and grips on my bike. Thanks.
Craig Fralick Doing this with bars is the beat time. Once you disconnect your stock wires doing the new heated grip wires will make since. On the throttle side there is a short harness that just clicks on the end. On passenger side you will have an extra wire harness but everything will make since. The left and right side hook up to each other in the middle and hook up to OEM connections. Other then the power wire.
Nevermind, figured it out, super easy. Under the Cap he talks about there's two pins, and you just plug the wire that comes on the throttle grip into them.
I just bought the same grips for my 2015 Road Glide, I also went ahead and bought the extra harness they say you need (just in case..haha) Does the wire from the left grip plug right into the connector under the cluster or did you have to modify it? TIA
There was a separate harness for the power wire. If you don’t have any accessories added on it might have a plug in it.
@@bigkirbmotors7233 I found the power wire plug under the cluster , but for the life of me I can't locate the black and white for the TBW connection
@@terryk45 really? Your old throttle should have been connected to it. If I recall there was a few connections grouped together for handle switches and one for throttle.
so the easy one for me was the hard one for him i cannot find the black and white connection on my 2019
What area are u in? Thanks for the great info I got Factory 47 bars on mine that I installed wish I knew this ahead of time now I have to take em off and get me some heated grips I already have the Memphis shades hand guards so this will be perfect as an addition then I can ride on a longer in the year cheers mate
That MD Guy awesome! Definitely better to do it all at once. Haha. I live in Utah.
Just removed my cluster to see and I can see the one with the cap but I cannot find the one with the black and white wire for some reason that’s in the cluster housing I have the cable side for the throttle cable which is a male connector but I don’t see the female that’s supposed to go to it 🤷🏾♂️
I did this and now I’m getting a code for running light over load.??
What year of RG are you working on (in the video)
2016 special
what size are your bars
The box you held up says 08+ for touring bikes!
trix4free that’s probably true. I just know the 2014 and up are the same as mine. So for my video it should be the same. 2008 might be similar but I’m not sure.
@@bigkirbmotors7233 good point. I think for earlier bikes without the fly by wire, you have to route back to the battery.
Do you know whether there are the same connectors for a Road King as for the Street and Road Glides?
Daniel Dicker I honestly don’t know. But if I had to guess, I’d say no. With it not coming with a stereo a front fairing. I would guess you would have to run the power wire.
The road king (2017) does not have a factory plug for power. I'm installing today and will be using the factory plug on the right for power. I've read its for the light on the front of the front fender.
Harley has the absolute WORST instructions. Makes my brain cry 🤦🏻♂️
That’s a fact they are a joke of a Harley Davidson instructions are a joke
How can you call this an install? You didn't do anything but talk! Nothing that shows how to actually do it
Sorry, maybe next time I’ll take more time and film the whole thing.
