Choctaw Nation provides free language teachings. level 1 is fairly simple. level 2 starts to get very particular in how to speak the grammer and sounds language. Lilly Roberts is a great teacher for remote students. it is absolutely wonderful so many people are choosing to learn the language of our fathers.
I know I butcher the language pretty badly. Like I've said before, I'm Caucasian and cannot prove my heritage, so I'm just getting an introduction to it. My teacher is a native speaker and spoke Choctaw before he spoke English. I wish I could record my classes so everyone could hear how all this is supposed to sound. Sadly, though, I can't. I hope I'm not doing too badly with this.
Thank you for doing this! I am a quarter Choctaw and have always wanted to learn the language so I'm gathering all the info I can find and learn this on my own. There is one pronunciation that I cannot find the verbal sound for and that is for Chi Hullo Li, "I Love You". In one of your next video's can you add the sound byte for that? Thanks So Much! Donna
You're welcome. I'm currently trying to find more time to make more videos. I've been making these videos so that they line up with the chapters as my teacher gives them to me.
Thank you! And thanks for the wonderful information. I didn't know about that! I'm taking it through my college. Everyone should jump off this crazy ride and go to Miss Lilly Roberts... She's got to be better quality than I am.
Yakoke la'wa! Many thanks! I was about to answer this, and the pronunciation is in my Choctaw 3 video that just went up. I am so sorry that it has taken so long.
I am of Choctaw decent and would love to learn to speak the language but unfortunate for me there's no one around for me to have a Choctaw conversation with. Not to mention there's not even as much as a Choctaw pow wow in my area.
Im a Houma indian (houma as in red) Choctaw and the original houma are very similar only dialect to bad houma "anumpa" is forgotten so im trying to learn Choctaw cause its kinda like American English vs British english

Great video! Thank you so much. Could you please tell me the Choctaw word for: Brother and brothers Also, would you happen to know the Shawnee word for the same? Thanks and keep it up. Bless you!
GILES DARKSON Apologies this took so long! I'm certain you can get in contact with the Choctaw Language Center in Durant. As far as a powwow goes, there is a powwow there every November. You can also go to Chickisa around Labor Day, I believe?
