Hi Andrea! I saw your post when this was in bud. I didn’t want to jinx it by saying it could probably be a seed pod already. Anyway, in my experience, it is hard to make the flower open. I saw its flower a couple of times on mine but it was at the height of a terrible heat wave here so I’m guessing heat makes the flower open. The cactus itself is cute and unique so seeing the flower is just a bonus. Happy sowing! 👍🏼😃☕️🌵
Hi Ana! Of course they flowered for you, like everything else lol! You are the cacti flower queen in my book 🌵🌺 I did read they need it super hot and bright to flower but I ain't mad at it 😬 I do think it's pushing out another 'flower' bud already too!
Thank you so very much for your informative videos! I just love the top dressing you have in this beautiful pot! Can you please tell me what kind of top dressing you’re using, where you got it from, and also where did you get this beautiful, little pot too? Mahalo!
Mahalo! The top dressing is called Turface but it goes by other names. I use it in my soil mix and as top dressings. It's cheap here too! I'm going to link to an article I wrote about it and my other drainage materials of choice. I'm guesssssing you're in HI so a more humid region definitely calls for great drainage for sucs! I wonder if there's not some nice small volcanic rocks there you can use too? sucsforyou.com/2020/07/28/how-climate-controls-your-succulents-soil-needs/
My experience with F. castanea seeds are that they germinate very quickly, sometimes in 24 hours or less given bright light and high humidity. Here's hoping you soon have a pot full of cute little ones!
Keep us informed of your experiment!

Hi Andrea! Thanks for sharing this exciting video! Looking forward to seeing cactus babies! 🥰
Yay! I started them yesterday after posting the video. Nothing happening yet but I've definitely checked several times lol!
Let us know if the seeds sprout. That would be so cool.

Oh the pot ... I think I got it at a thrift shop? I've had it so long lol! And yes, I drilled drainage holes in the bottom ;)
That's so cool, I thought it was such an awesome little succulent. Do you know if they are available in NZ?
It's a great lil dude! I'm sure you can find them there. I started the seeds and they've already germinated so you can try that too!

Ooh nice! I've got plenty of light and humidity to spare lol! I just potted them up - thank you!
