• Maximus vs Commodus - ...
A cup of coffee for a buck goes a long way in helping to make this video.👍🏼☕️
www.buymeacoffee.com/youremrl...
no copyright infringement intended. The movie is not mine, the reactions are not mine, only the hard work, time, and dedication of putting this all together is mine. I wouldn't call myself a hero, cause what's a hero? But sometimes, there's a man.... - Розваги
This masterpiece doesn't need a second part neither a remake. It's perfect just the way it is.
I agree. And I say that as a HUGE Gladiator fan. This movie was lightning in a bottle. I must admit, that I'm atleast curious to see what they're going to do. I just hope it's not going to tarnish the original.
Nick Cave (yes *that* one) wrote a sequel script back in the day. No chance it woulda been made; it's too awesome and bonkers.
(Easy to look up and read about.)
Exactly
Total agree
There was a planned remake that would've been a mistake. The story would've seen Maximus resurrected by the Greek Gods to hunt down and kill Jesus to secure their power. Maximus refuses amd would be cursed with immortality living well into the modern world.
The fact that Hans Zimmer only has 2 Oscars is absolutely criminal
Два? боже це гений музыки.
Oscar is rigged anyway..
@@user-hv7xn9ch8mДа, два
He is an absolute genius with movie scores
Only 2??? Really??? Unbelievable..
There are 3 times in life where it's OK for a man to cry:
1. The death of a loved one
2: Stubbing a toe really hard on furniture.
3. The end of Gladiator.
I'd have to add 4 & 5 : Shawshank Redemption and Iron Giant
Aaron, I assume you have never seen the ending of Field of Dreams.
@@samwheat9881 Never seen the movie.
Shawshank has 2 scenes. Brooks and "I hope the pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope..." and then the hug on the beach.
I would add the Green Mile also. Hard to watch that without tears
"He was a soldier of Rome. Honor him."
Gets me every time.
for me it's 'who will help me carry him' and everyone stepping up
The way she said that is so powerful,commanding...
@@nixon9346she realizes that she’s practically top dog at that moment.
Every single time. So much respect in the Quote
for me it's the "go to them"
For whatever reason, I always tear up when Gracchus says, “Who will help me carry him?” Every f’ing time.
For me, it's always just before that line when Connie Neilson says
"He was a soldier of Rome. Honor Him!"
Who doesn't?
The music, man, is the damn music.... it's like instant onions in our eyes or something... 🤣
fucking*
@@neddhu A music man can't be the damn music, a music man can bring the music but can't BE the music.
I think in the history of cinema, there has never been a more minor role have greater impact than the actress who plays Maximus’ wife. You see her face twice in the entire film but this after life scene being reunited is so powerful.
She was Riddley Scott's girlfriend at the time (IDK if they are still together) and appeared in a few other of his films.
John Wick's dog, Daisy.
About 12 seconds on film, three movies.
The son too. Don't forget the son. Seeing him run back to his father breaks my heart.
@@usmcmech96 They are married now.,
"Go to them..."
It's such a simple sentence, but it breaks me every time.
"Now we are free. I will see you again. But not yet. Not yet..."
It's all about the ending for me. The action is awesome, but the ending is by far my favorite part of this movie.
I've seen this movie about 20 times, and it never fails that I'm bawling my eyes out by the ending. The score is absolutely out of this world.
Hans Zimmer is the prophet of our generation.
You wrote exactly what i was going to say... I am crying like a moron at 1 in the night watching people cry on youtube at this scene i love... The music makes the scene million times better.
@@neddhuits part of the magick
I couldnt agree more! Honour and chivalry prevail
This soundtrack is one of the most beautiful ones I've heard
They have her sing a lot in Man on Fire. Beautiful there too!
Loved the sound track
A man had his vengeance delivered.
A General fought for his country and saved it one last time.
A father finally reunited with his family.
Your comment made me tear up, man!
@@realMoMoPuFF Sorry not sorry
Djimon Hounsou is such a great actor too. Decades of portraying awesome secondary characters in movies. Deserves to be the main lead in one.
I been saying this for years. Blood Diamond was Oscar worthy imo.
Never saw Amistad?
@@gawainethefirst extremely underrated!
One of the best ever, truly doesn’t get enough recognition!!!
He was SO good in Blood Diamond! What a performance.@@placebo5466
Maximus was probably at less than 50% of his ability because of his wound, and he still won. That’s the difference in a warrior forged in war vs a warrior forged in training, excellent writing!
"Who will help me carry him" always loved that line and scene
Great job Mr Lebowski. I never in my life thought I'd spend time watching other people watching movies, but it is so great to see their reactions. And thanks to you I've been exposed to some of the best.
It's weird that watching other people watching movies that I love is soooo entertaining! I'm with you there!
Same here! As a movie buff I never imagined that I could love watching other people watch all my fav movies and they see it for the first time. It's like I see it through their eyes for the first time as well!
That 12 person synchronized gasp at the first stab was very satisfying
The Hans Zimmer score was so evocative.
He was a soldier of Rome... honor him.
His son when he runs to him actually broke me for more than i thought. Really this is the best film i have ever seen before 😞😥😥
I watched this in the Theater. When it first came out. I Lost it, I cried at the end. If you don't cry watching this movie. You have no soul. I was surrounded by men, crying their eyes out.
I'm old enough to have seen Gladiator in the theater the night it premiered. And it says something about the gripping and fully engrossing battle finale between Maximus and Commodus that the people I was seated next to almost a quarter century ago experienced the same emotional resonance to it as those in this video. Masterpieces are like that, and in my opinion...this is one. Thanks for posting and I look forward to the next one! Cheers!
*the people I was seated next to* lol. right.
This was the first movie I ever owned as a kid. I wish I could have seen it in a theatre like you.
Man, this ending is just so perfect, especially the music score & vocals (Elysium) done by Hans Zimmer. A tearful scene.
Maximus' instinct kicked in. Muscle memory and years of battle experience took over
To stare into the eyes of the man who ordered the death of your family and to finally have your revenge, wow.
Thank you for sharing some of my favorite reactors. Commodus is probably the most despicable villain in cinematic history. His death was enormously satisfying. But the role was played to perfection by Joaquin Phoenix. And this movie was about as close to flawless as it gets.
He truly is on the Mount Rushmore of terrible villains
Amon Gőth?
@@BennyH11 what are you asking?
@@SurvivorBri Surely Amon Goth is in the question for most despicable villain in cinema?
There is a reason this won so many Academy Awards and golden globes in 2001. Went and saw this in the theater in High School in 2000 and people literally jumped and cheered when he kills Commodus. Fantastic movie. Phoenix deserves accolades for his role as well. Great movie.
Will Hollywood ever make movies this good again? Hollywood find your soul again & do what we know you can do. This is the pinnacle of proper movie making. Absolute perfection.
I saw this in a theater. When it was over and the end credit music played, I could not move. I sat there, wanting to do something bold and wonderful and helpful to everyone on Earth. I looked into the middle darkness and saw what I truly was. Incapable. It broke my heart a little.
You were (and are) more capable than you know
@@kylel7158 That was nice of you to say. 🙂
“Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves.” Confucius
Best movie ever! Best ending ever!!! The music of Lisa Gerrard nailed it too!! A true piece of art this film!!
The part that gets me the most is when he fades out of consciousness, the score starts playing (Elysium) and he opens the doors to his afterlife.
One of the best movies I’ve ever seen, not many stories of revenge quite like this one. Crowe and phoenix put on a masterclass.
you know ypu are one of the best actors when the fans curse at you and hate your character lol. Mr. Phoenix should have won an Oscar for his villian performance. this movie is sooo damn great.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR THIS. I actually lied to my aunt who was raising me so I could go see this at the movies when it came out. I was in 9th grade and she didn't allow me at the time to go places completely by myself. I saw this movie twice the same day. My favorite movie of all time.
Mine too!
And as Maximus drew in his last breath he heard his friend declare in his loudest voice
“maximus in populis imperator!”
Maximus the Emperor of the People? .... My Latin is not so good.
@@jamesalexander5623 correct!!
I had thought it a fitting and vary well earned name for Maximus to have…..if he had been emperor. mostly because he actually earned it first from earning the respect of the Roman military and then after becoming a gladiator he started at the bottom and worked his way up to being the equivalent of a superstar in the gladiatorial combat.
After all the people weren’t cheering for there emperor they were cheering Maximus! Maximus! Maximus!
instead of the one that was a backstabbing monster
Such a hearfelt response from our favorite reactors. A bittersweet and poetic end as the hero strides into the afterlife, his hand caressing the fields of home, his wife and son waiting, beckoning.. a well deserved reward for his fealty to Marcus Aurelius and his last command: give Rome back to the people.
I love you guys❤we are Groot
9:19 One of the most epic shots in movie history! I want a poster of that! 😁
I was fortunate enough to get tickets to the IMAX in Chicago, and me, my brother and 2 of our friends watched this on opening weekend, and even better...
We never left the theater! We hid in the restroom while they cleaned, then walked right back in and watched it again! We loved it!
And of course, movies are always better when you get to watch it on opening weekend with a packed house!!!
It is still one of my favorite movies going experiences of my life!
what a great memory to have.
This movie so good it really makes everyone cry.
This was wonderful. The reactions showed our united humanity.
Its hard to believe this movie was a play by play, Ridley made it up as he went....but it became such an Awesome Movie! Such a great story and visuals!
You're getting really good at these edits
Lebowski. Your timing and pacing are top notch. your sense of humor really shines through in these as well. Keep at it!
thank you. one of the best compliments i've ever gotten. 🏆
This really is one of the most beautiful, moving pieces of music I've ever heard in a movie. "Now We Are Free" by the one and only Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard from the incredible band Dead Can Dance. Simply amazing!
So happy I got to see it in the cinema. Looking at films now. Man, we had no idea this would be a classic. We were spoiled then. Now, a movie like this is every 20 years.
We were free. A small pocket of greatness, one decade
Joaquin Phoenix, for me, was the best actor he'd play the villain to a T. Everyone hated him, not me
I loved Joaquin as the villian he was awesome , just like my other favorite villian the late actor HEATH LEDGER , RIP, 2 wonderfull actors
I remember watching this in highschool. Until this day the last scene like this tears my eyes up as always.
A true warriors death. Something that any man truly fears but also truly cherishes. Not all men could ever be so lucky.
When I first watched this movie something like 10 years ago, it was one of the few times a movie has made me cry(the other was titanic) Even now, like the 100th time I have watched this final sequence, it still gets me teary, so seeing almost all of the reactors crying was super relatable.
Beautiful movie, beautiful music, absolutely very well done and my 4th favourite movie of all time. Not a dry eye when Maximus died, and watching that part again for the umpteenth time, I still cry too. Saw this in the theater when it came out and at the end part there was complete silence in a theater of at least 80 ppl.
"What we do in life echoes for eternity."
I still listen to this soundtrack from time to time. It always brings me peace.
Love the concept of these videos!
The absolute best clips, with reaction mashups. Genius.
He did his duty and finally gets to go home
So very good! The editing where Comodus stabs Maximus? Excellent!
Gladiator is a stunningly incredible movie, cast, all of it. It's an epic film.❤😂
I love this film. It also has Hans Zimmer's top score. It was nice to see the power of this film reflected in the people from all over. Regardless one's home, language, this film is one that truly grabs you all the way. This ending w/ the beautiful ""Elysium" & "Honor Him" score pieces never fails to hit hard. Even 20 yrs on.....
It didn't take these reactions to know (who loved the movie already knew that), but if I were the director, the scriptwriter, one of the actors, etc I would be very proud to seeing what emotions cause to the people who watching it.
The ending music always gets me.
No one ever picks up on the foreshadowing of his death from the beginning. Incredible script
Wow great job on this one great reactions. I never get old of Gladiator😂
EVERY DAMN TIME someone cuts onions when watching this scene. AND I LOVE THIS SONG BEHIND THIS. I want this track to be played at my funeral. I want everyone to remember me like I would be there, at that one empty seat. And not cry but remember all I've done.
This is the perfect example that music can make a movie legendary ❤❤❤
Such a great movie. I had the chance to watch it in the theater and it was epic. I alway felt for Quintus. He was a good man but bound by duty to obey the Emperor. I can’t fault him for that. N the end he did the right thing.
Being a hired killing machine is NOT A GOOD MAN. Ya'll are satanic and corrupted, and it shows up in those kind of comments lol.
The moment he falls on his back, I just tear up constantly!! It is so emotional!!
The music just brings out all of the emotion, so beautiful!
Beautiful... Thank you, @YoureMrLebowski.
All the reactions. This is why I got into film and theatre. To make people feel that which they have forgotten or never felt before.
Another awesome mashup! Great job!! 😃
My favorite movie of all time. The ending to this day has me in tears, every single time, no matter how many times I watch it.
I forgot how freaking emotional this ending is 😩
This movie kicks SO much butt!!! All time great!!
Joaquin was also chefs kiss in this movie. Brilliant
Beat me to it! I so wanted to do a compilation of everyone crying to this final scene. Well done!
This scene never gets old. Masterpiece ✨.
This movie was filmed on the little island of Malta 🇲🇹 i went to see the whole setting the arena was something out of this world
that.......was an outstanding compilation of some truly wonderful and heartfelt reactions to this unforgettable (as someone else just wrote)..masterpiece!! Thank you so much!!!!
Just, man tears. You guys out there get me. Man tears.
When the music started and she started to say ,he was a soldier of rome ,honor him 🥺🥺🥺😢 i never cried that much
I dated a girl years ago for a couple years. She loved this movie. It is her all time favorite movie. Watched atleast once a week. Sometimes we would lay in bed to sleep she turned this movie on. Everytime at the end she would cry. She even said sorry for crying. I always told her it's okay to cry to this. We watched it together probably hundreds of times. She can recite every line to this movie perfectly. Sometimes I would ask her to recite it. I still talk to her all these years later after we broke up. She still loves this movie. Still watched it atleast once a week.
I am so happy to have seen this movie on the big screen when it was released. I remember seeing it with 2 friends and from the opening scene till the end we were just blown away. Walking out we just wanted to buy another ticket and watch it again.
Thats my favourite movie and im only 13 years old this masterpiece will always be remembered by true dreamworks fans
This ending, the thumbs up in T2, and the ending of Best of the Best will make me cry every single time
The GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE!!! MY NUMBER 1 FOR THE LAST 25 YEARS
When his son comes running toward him that was it for me
Yup! that is a tear jerker.
I watched this in the theatre, and you really felt you were there. This was a masterpiece, now there’s a second one coming soon, I hope it’s as good as this one. Some are coming back but what peas me off is that the boy that played Lucia’s isn’t being played by the same actor.
An absolute masterpiece in cinematic history. This film will always be at the top.
Probably the first film I can remember that managed to make me cry.
We don't need a part 2 to a already Classic Masterpiece. When you get something right leave it alone. PLEASE!!!!!
Without the music at the end it wouldn't been the movie for the woman who sings sail away sail away from the 80s that the song yeah everytime I see the ending I start crying till😢😢😊
A masterpiece does not do this film justice. This is how you win a Oscar.
And one of the best moments to consider. Maximus is carried out like a state hero. Comodus, meanwhile, is left behind for the vultures. How fitting.
And it’s great that you guys point it out. Because yeah, fuck him.
Women cry during Titanic ,men during Gladiator.Fact!.....and thumbs up scene Terminator2.
Gladiator is a masterpiece for all centuries, it’s better not to be made again after almost 24 years, the film is still watched and re-watched because it’s a top film, it’s been watched 500 times, the legendary film, the acting is magnificent
There are 3 types of people in the world.... those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who wonder wtf just happened. Who are you when someone needs your help?
major credit to Ridley Scott for this masterpiece
That full Patreon cut is great, if you only watch their reaction videos, you don't see that much. Very cool!!!
such a pefectly played role by russel crowe. i cant imagine someone ells would have just slightly played it that well. 107% pure talent!
These male reactors are frickin brave to upload their emotional reactions for millions of people to see man. There are some movies I refuse to watch with others because I don't want anyone to see me even get watery eyed. One of those movies is 'Lion'. That movie is impossible not to cry to.
