    I received a 4 pack of the Gosund smart switches and I am very pleased with this purchase. First, I want to compliment Gosund for including clear, very well written and easily understandable installation instructions.

    Good idea to NOt include any close up views of the wiring.

      I have't looked at this video in quite a while. I do remember having an issue with the 3rd wire, so I included a schematic at 3:15. That third wire is key with th GoSund, and most smart switches. It supplies power to operate the wifi reciever. My wiring was old and I only had two wires (white / black) so I needed to run a (hot) wire from an adjacent receptacle.
      I believe I make reference to that in the video

    You need four wires? The standard black, white, and neutral wire won't work? And where did the red wire hook to?

    • @ForeverLearning
      @ForeverLearning  3 роки тому

      Copied from my answer below - Yes, you will need four wires.
      Gosund and nearly all of the manufacturers of these Smart Switches require a Fourth wire (NEUTRAL) to supply power when the switch is in the OFF position. My homes wiring is a little older and this Wire just wasn't there. MY FIX -- After thinking about this a bit I realized the Outlet on the same wall was in the same approximate location (meaning within the same stud section in the wall) so I opened up the outlet box below (same circuit) and just fished a wire from that junction box 4' straight up to the with. Worked like a charm! So, no electrician needed. However if someone doesn't have this Neutral or LOAD Wire, and doesn't know what they are doing - an electrician would be the best way to go!

    I watched this video to get a review of the gosund switches. However, it turned to entertainment when I saw the dead end switch set up. Good job on keeping the confidence going on screen :D:D. I would have loved to see the interaction with the electrician, if you know what I mean. (Yes, I am an electrician)

      Thanks for the review Josue. I haven't looked at this video for a while, but I did run in to trouble with the Neutral Wire. Thanks @Forever Learning for this tutorial, I replaced an old dimmer with this dimmer from gosund and it worked perfectly. However, in the installation of the house there is another manual switch (without dimmer) that slides the same light, that is, two switches turn the lamps on and off. That way when I installed the new dimmer, when trying to turn off the lamp on the old switch (which does not have the dimmer function) it does not turn off. That way if I want to completely turn off the lamp with the new dimmer (gosund) I need to make sure that the old switch is in the off position, otherwise, the lamp will always stay on because gosund's electronic switch keeps it on. I'm in doubt about what to do, if I disable this other old switch or if I try to put a new dimmer (but I don't know how they would work together) or if I put a 3-way switch in place of this old one ..

      Alex - Excellent question. I just wrote to GOSUND to see if I can come up with a solution for you. They (Gosund) recently send me a 3 Way Switch Set: amzn.to/2Mxgr8W which is currently on sale if you are interested. I asked Gosund if you could combine the Dimmable Switch you already have installed with one of the switches in this 3 Way Switch. I will let you know what their answer is when they get back to me.

    • @ForeverLearning
      @ForeverLearning  2 роки тому +1

      Tim - The faceplate snaps in when flush. If you aren't feeling the "snap" you may be slightly offset. Try moving the switch itself out just a bit (1mm) and see if the faceplate s naps into place.

    If I have two black wires coming of my existing switch how do I know which one goes to the black vs white wire

    • @ForeverLearning
      @ForeverLearning  Рік тому

      You'd have to use a multi-meter at that point. Proper wiring (code) should utilize the different colors to avoid this, or some would have taped one of the wires for identification.

    I bought eight switches and six work great, but two of them (independently, in different boxes) will randomly jump to different brightness levels (100 to 1, 1 to 50, anywhere in between), sometimes never and sometimes every few minutes. Any ideas what could be causing this other than a faulty switch?

    • @ForeverLearning
      @ForeverLearning  Рік тому

      You could check your voltage to make sure its constant. Also don't forget to use Dimmer Bulbs, not standard bulbs

      @@ForeverLearning I actually figured it out… it apparently was the connection between Google Home and Smart Life somehow got out of sync… I unlinked my smart life account from my google home and reconnected (and re-setup all my routines) and everything stopped messing up. Hi. You mention that it works with Apple HomeKit. Is that the case? Because I can't find this in the product description. Thanks.

    • @ForeverLearning
      @ForeverLearning  3 роки тому

      Bill Thanks for the Reply - I can not confirm this will work with Homekit. I assumed (you know what they say about assume) as a smart switch it would work. After a brief internet search I found this (almost cyptic) information: rb.gy/cciinc which states that it is not officially compatibility. So while I don't personally use a HomeKit, I do think I could make it work, but I can't prove that - If I ever switch from Amazon to Apple I will test it out and let you know. My apologies for the misinformation... Thank you for bringing this to my attention

    Is anyone else having the issue where this thing barely dims my lights...is there any type of brightness config in the apps that can be used with these? On 1% the lights are still so bright 😟

    How did you get around having no neutral wire?

    • @ForeverLearning
      @ForeverLearning  4 роки тому

      I didn't - It was definitely a trap - I went to an outlet on the same Wall (3 feet below) and ran a Solid Wire up from the outlet to use as my Neutral - Worked perfectly

    I noticed the red wire from the smart switch is not connected to anything. How does it work?

    • @ForeverLearning
      @ForeverLearning  3 роки тому

      The Red Wire will attach to your "Load" or basically to the light you are trying to control. I had to install a Neutral wire to accomplish this. You'll find a wiring diagram at 3:12 in the video. At 5:08 you'll TEXT letting you know the RED Wire connects to the "LOAD"

  • @jcorp731
    @jcorp731 3 роки тому

    You needed to zoom in to show the wire colors. That didn't help me with the install.

    • @ForeverLearning
      @ForeverLearning  3 роки тому

      I was limited with my camera views on this video - but checkout the wiring diagram displayed at 3:12 ua-cam.com/video/UKiAvpDyFvg/v-deo.html From there it's typically White to White, Black to Black, Red to your LOAD Wire, and Green to Green - All fairly straight forward.
