My friend dragged me to the arcade in Feb of 1991 babbling about this game that I had to see. When we got I saw lines and crowds around this game. This was the stage because everyone kept playing against each other. I was transfixed and completely hooked. And the crowd wasn't just kids like us (14 year olds) but people in their 20s and 30s, rich and poor. This game was the game changer.
Capcom did not give her the credit she deserved back then, along with the composer for the RockMan (MegaMan) games simply because they were women. Glad Yoko Shimomura moved on to study under the sagely Nobuo Uematsu (of Final Fantasy fame) who cultivated her talents further. Eventually Yoko Shimomura found success as the chief composer of the highly successful Kingdom Hearts, Mario&Luigi, and Paper Mario series.
@@oneyedthing inspiration is not easy to come. That's why the nice things in life are limited in number and this is the same with game musics. You will hear many musics from videogames, but some of them are really nice. We must admit that is difficult to have inspiration to make something very nice .
I remember when was a little girl in arcades, and watch this game... after a lot of players can get into the final bosses, defeating all: 7 rivals and many human challengers... then all stop putting coins and give the pal a chance against the 4 bosses, and the first time i hear this song... was beautiful... Now, many years later i hear again and... sorry, the nostalgia attacks is big on me...
First time I visited Las Vegas, my plane arrived at night time, and I played the song over the lit-up city during the approach for landing. It was awesome. The city lived up to the build-up.
What I love most about this tune is how it feels like it mimics the Vegas showmanship and the rhythm of the Balrog fight itself. 0:00-0:10 is like the space where the fighters would enter the arena and the referee announces their names. 0:10-0:35 is where the fight actually begins and Balrog starts swinging. 0:36 onward is where the crap hits the fan and he's backing you into a corner and throwing punches that can level a third of your health bar, and you suddenly realize that stepping in the ring with this impossibly-strong maniac might be the worst decision you ever made in your life... while somehow never losing the glitz and class and palpable wealth of the backdrop. It does a great job of making the player feel the hype of the character, which is exactly what you want in a fighting game OST.
IMHO One of the most underrated jams from SF2. I always hear ppl mention Guiles, Ken's and Ryu's but Balrogs will always be my favorite overall. Even M.Bisons is great!
My favorite theme and stage from the Streetfighter Game, the Neon look is just awesome. It's also funny to see Zangief and Balrog just staring at each other for 15 Minutes 🤣

They put time and effort to 8-16bit games. They couldnt replicate it today so they reuse the same music. Sad that today's games have generic music

He is supposed to be Mike Tyson, but they swapped his name for Balrog instead of M. Bison (that’s what his name is in set in Japan).
