Nice work! I was swapping my clutch out (well, still in the process) and I found the front driveshaft boot shredded. All grease (dried up) under the Jeep and the joint is literally gunked up. I'm thinking of just replacing the whole joint instead of the boot. But you showed me how easy it was to get it apart for replacement! Nice video!

There won't be any balancing issues taking the driveshaft off at the joint. You would only have an issue if you took the drive shaft apart at the center and didn't put it back in the right orientation. It's not balanced while it's on the vehicle.

Thanks..I was wondering about that. I took off the driveshaft to replace the cv joint. But I didn't make any marks. BUT I didn't take the driveshaft apart

The boot failed because the lift kit, and the angle the shaft is now at. Should have installed the terraflex high angle kit if you were going to go through this work and be done with it.

Watch those teraflex rzeppa joints. They fail. Mine failed after 12,000 miles. They supposedly redesigned them Last year because of the failure rate. Replace my rear upper last July with their joint thinking I was one and done too. Put a complaint into TF a few days ago and haven’t heard from them as to making it it right.
I replaced my front upper joint a few months ago with an OEM replacement. Fuck teraflex and their expensive garbage joint. OEM joint replaced for 1/3 of the price of TF crap cv joint and bet it’ll last more than 12,000 miles.
Changing the TF joint to an OEM. I’ll take my chances.

@@gregbisesi9966 I agree. I'd def go oem rzeppa and even balljoints if you run a jeep with less than 35s. Just my opinion. If you dont do severe rock crawling and drive your Jeep within its limits ie dont abuse the crap out of it and run tires up to a 35 oem is better than most aftermarket. Imo

As an update to my last post. Teraflex was decent enough to send another joint free of charge. I installed that but it is overheating and also is about to fail. I’m done with it and heading to Tom woods to get a new rear DS. Now my OEM front upper, god bless it still going strong getting to about 20,000 miles. It’s easy getting the front shaft off at the u-joint, but that rear shaft is tough to get the lower differential cv joint out with out damaging it to fix the upper. Just finished ball joints and axle shaft u-joints. Lol that’s why I’m having Tom Woods do the drive shaft, I’m tired of the non fun, non bling upgrades. Good luck with yours.

@@gregbisesi9966 Thanks for the update and insight. God bless you and yours. Please if an when you get a chance once you've put some miles on those new shafts, I would love to hear your thoughts. Waving a hand from RI.

Yep no problem. Tom Woods gives the Jeep club a nice discount so just about everyone in the club that has replaced shafts runs them. Don’t believe I’ve heard a discouraging word from anybody.
      Take care Amigo.

Question if the cv joint was bad would you hear a clicking noise when you shift in 4wd and driving forward ??

Thanks so much for this video. I drive 19k a year commuting alone in the Northeast so I run severe duty schedule on my 16 JK I'm underneath her regularly checking for wear on parts and always check those boots for tears every 5 k during oil changes and in between. My question to you is should I remove and repack the joint at 55k? I'm running a terraflex leveling kit and that's my next oil change will be doing diffs transfer and tranny fluids. Diffs I do once a year. The boot looks fine and no noises. Thanks again for the great video will use it again for reference when that time comes.

If it isn't broke, dont touch it. As long as if holds grease it will be fine. Thanks for the awesome comment.

Your lucky you didnt destroy the cover plate while taking it apart also I think I would have put it in a parts cleaner and flushed out all the old grease before repacking it .Am also wondering how long this repair lasted .I myself just replaced both driveshafts with Adams 1310 driveshafts

Since your jeep has a lift kit on it, that is more than like
Y the issue with the torn boot. They recommend the high angle one with lift kits.

I am just curious, the front drive shaft on my wife's 2010 Jeep Wrangler has like a ball pivot on the end of it where it goes to the transfer case. Mine looks nothing like this one. Do you have a video on that style???? The boot is gone and it's dry and wobbles around. Need to fix before winter, however don't really want to spend $500.00 for a new shaft. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks and just subscribed to your channel. Keep up tje great videos.

Great video but I would not have used a hammer on a bearing.

    • @jamesstafford9067
      @jamesstafford9067 4 роки тому

Mr Jose, if you look at the video closely, you will see the he was nowhere near the bearing. The bearing is on the outside of center carrier and bearings ( balls that make the bearing) are held in place with a retaining cage. I assure you that what he done is perfectly fine and is exactly what the dealership or other garages will do. Have a blessed night.

James Stafford If that is the case then it is improper maintenance practices. I used to be an aircraft mechanic in the a Navy and if I did that I would have been written up. Perhaps my maintenance practices are more critical. 🤷🏽‍♂️
