When I was nine, playing left field in Little league a guy hit one deep I was running for it, overran it by a little and caught it behind my back, the crowd, small crowd, went crazy...one of the best moments of my life...I'm sixty...I still remember it like it was yesterday. Every kid should play little league baseball.
I’m 61, and still remember making a diving catch when I was playing centerfield. I LOVED playing little league, high school , college, then church league softball. Wouldnt mind playing now!
My first day of little league I was put in right field and had no idea how far to stand off the line. Sure enough first pitch the ball was hit right down the line so I ran and dove and the ball ended up in my glove. I told the coach I wanted to play second base because I didn't have much of an arm. He laughed and said your in the outfield. 😆
My son was pitching in the final inning of a tournament championship game. There was one out with runners on 2nd and 3d. The batting team was down by two. The hitter hit a blistering ground ball to the third base side of the mound. My son dived to his right, slapped the ball down while falling. He grabbed the ball and his only play was to first. He had no time to gather himself so he threw from his knees. Got the man at first by an eyelash. The 3d base coach sent the 2nd runner to tie the game. The 1st baseman cut the runner down at the plate with a perfect throw. They won 4-3, but the thing I'll never forget was the look on my son's face when he threw the guy out from his knees. Pure joy as the crowd erupted. It was a big regional LL tournament so there were 5-600 people in the stands It's gratifying to know he's felt that indescribable feeling of a crowd roaring its approval for something you've accomplished. We've talked about it and he says the thing he remembers most was how everything happened in slow motion and he knew exactly what to do. I think that's called being in 'the zone'. It's a great memory for us both.
@Gabriel if you don't understand that, and Obviously you don't, you must not have grown up in America watching the World Series every year, playing little league and Dreaming of One Day Just Maybe I can do that. If you have not, You Would Not Understand.
Ben Revere at 5:40 my favorite. Full speed into the wall. If he let's up, the ball clears him. If he doesn't brace for impact he gets concussed. He somehow leaps into the wall to soften the impact while locating and catching the ball directly over his head. Then he comes off the wall in perfect balance. Maybe the greatest combo of feel, athleticism and baseball skill I've ever seen in one catch.
Thanks for bringing that up, on second look you're right that catch is absolutely insane! He had to track it looking up and behind first to his left then turning to his right , then jumps and catches while his back is to the Ball 5 feet in the air!! THATs insane !
@@merlotpapi4930 This was definitely the best catch of all-time. Buehrle whipping through the game, the Sox faithful hanging on every pitch, Hawk Harrelson ready to give his life for the perfect game, and that catch... The Jim Edmonds catch at the start is still the greatest catch I have ever seen. I would like to add that the Otis Nixon catch in 1992 over the fence to preserve the Atlanta Braves win streak when they had 1 hit (a solo home run from David Justice) should be listed among the greatest catches as well, not only for the catch but also for the atmosphere.
That Otis Nixon catch was in fulton county stadium and I have never seen anyone go over the wall to rob a homer in that stadium. so I would have to say that's the best I've ever seen.

Thought he was snubbed when he only lasted on the ballot for the hall of fame one year
The Jim Edmonds catch, I had on video, ESPN top ten or something, if you slow mo it, there's a point where he looks back, not over his shoulder, but bending his neck straight backwards, to spot the ball! By far the greatest catch Ive ever seen...
Yeah I'm shocked Nixon's catch is not in this - these fences these catches are made over are adorable compared to the 11' beast he had to surmount for that catch.
That Ben Revere grab for the Twins is highly impressive. Has to veer both left then right-then a straight-on jump into the wall … his back to the ball while making the catch. A lot going on in that bang-bang snag.

Missed one from 1970, Willie Mays and Bobby Bonds converged on a deep fly to right center. Both leaped high at the fence and collided and fell to the ground. Mays had the wind knocked out of him when he fell onto Bonds' knee. With Willie still laying on the ground, Bonds reached into Willie's glove and pulled to ball out.
Glad to see you included the classic Willie Mays over the shoulder catch. Another great catch that was not included was Bo Jackson’s wall walk catch. One worth checking out!
If I remember correctly (regarding the Mays' catch), the throw that followed was magnificent as well. I believed it made it to home plate on one bounce and stopped a run from scoring.
@@stevearmin5346 It did stop a run from scoring, but it didn't make it all the way home. "Foolish Baseball" did a really great video on it. Paul Henry, an American h.s. player from Southern California. The St. Louis Cardinals were interested in him in 1966 an offered him a minor league contract. He decided to go to college, graduated, and joined the work force upon graduation from college.
I would add in 69 Mets-Orioles WS when Mets threw some serious leather around that series. Tommie Agee had 2 in one game including the first one snow cone catch and saving 5 runs in all...then next day Ron Swoboda made a ridiculous catch laid out in right field saving game for Mets. Also Joe Rudi I think in 1972 World Series with that I call the "look up catch" just incredible his reaction to the ball. Great Stuff. Thanks for posting.
Yes, those and other great World Series catches should be in a category by themselves, because of the pressure of the situation. Dwight Evans' catch in the sixth game of the 1975 World Series should also have been included.
Bo Jackson should have had two catches on here. He did just as well as any of them that pulled the ball back from going over the fence. And then there is that catch he made where he ran on the fence. And he had some great mid field catches.
Bo was a negative defender, plain and simple. He had what? one robbed HR (against Jack Clark). And running up the fence? He caught the ball, took 6 full strides before he even got to the fence. Him running up the fence was absolutely no factor in the catch, other than a cheap thrill.
Amen. Just about to type the same comment. Bo had the most legendary and beautiful dive-and-roll mid-field catches i've EVER seen. The distance run (where he wasn't even in the camera frame), the superhuman speed, the flight through the air, the cartwheel-like turn in mid-air, catching the ball in the middle of the cartwheel, the perfect form on the roll, in which he usually landed ON HIS FEET in perfect running stride. I think the only reason people overlook those amazing catches is that he made them look so easy, and he did it many times to where people just expected that kind of athleticism from him. But no one else caught a ball the way he could; definitely should have at least one in this video...
jrn00498 yeah! it's called a "terreas". CROSLEY FIELD in Cincy had one and I saw one of the best centerfielders in baseball race up the terreas, fall, reach out his arm and have the ball hit the palm of his glove and fall out and be charged with an error! I saw it with my own eyes and I knew that call was WRONG!!!
people who call that catch overrated don’t understand how bizarre the dimensions of the polo grounds were. no outfielder in any current ballpark will ever have to cover that much ground
Great video! I don't know how anyone can't watch this without a smile on their face! The thing about Willie Mays' catch is that (as he says) it is the catch--but it's the throw after the catch...he nailed a direct throw to get the guy out (I believe it was at home). Also, Willie says he used to make those catches on a regular basis at the Polo Grounds...this wasn't any kind of one-off catch, by any means.
Actually, he didn't throw anyone out. There were runners on first and second and Larry Doby, the runner on second, tagged up and went to third. Willie's quick throw, however, kept Doby from taking TWO bases and scoring on the fly-out--a distinct possibility, as the ball was hit so deep.
Those were amazing for sure. I remember a really great one from Willy McGee St.Louis Cardinals I believe in the '82 World Series where he jumped so high his waist was at the top of the outfield wall.
Kreege Jim Edmonds was the best you’ve seen? In that era? For comment like that I hope you’re a racist and not a complete idiot. Edmunds was good, but never in anyone’s greatest list.
He said in his lifetime. I was going to say that Edmonds catch was most impressive because he was looking over his shoulder the whole time and made a backhanded catch. 6:35
@@tyrant_tarantula What kind of a moron brings race into a discussion like this? If you don't think Jim Edmonds was at least one of the top 3 OFers in his era you're either biased or just plain stupid.
All great plays but they left off four of the best ever -- the catch by Swoboda in the 69 world series, the Bo Jackson catch where he runs up the wall, the Ozzie Smith catch over his shoulder where he dives over the outfielder coming in, and McGee in the 82 series.
I'm from Boston but the greatest catch in MLB history is Derek Jeter's bare handed catch and throw 2 home base, Might be the greatest play of all time ??? Let alone catch and throw, play and out all in 1 !!!
Mark Sisson and SWABODA'S was in the WORLD SERIES!! after the game, JOE DIMAGGIO, who was one of the GREATEST OUTFIELDERS EVER, was asked about the play. while looking at the tape he said, and I'll never forget! "I woulda played it on the first hop."
Just came to watch the Edmonds catch again. The one to end the no-hitter was the most consequential. Torii Hunter robbing Bonds back when his head was still sort of normal-sized. Ichiro caught it while he was on the way back DOWN. What a collection.
1:27 I used to work at the Ballpark in Arlington. Most people don't realize how high those outfield fences were in Arlington. Of course, that's around the same spot where a fan fell to his death when trying to catch a ball tossed to the stands by Josh Hamilton. The Gary Mathews Jr catch was simply impossible. In my opinion, it will always be the greatest catch in MLB history! PERIOD! Interesting side note: Shortly after the amazing catch, Gary Matthews was a free agent. The Angels gave him about $100 Million more than he probably deserved. So that incredible catch at 1:30 probably ended up being the most expensive catch in Angels history.
Let's not forget the other 10 people who were going for that catch at the same time. Even if they didn't catch it, they prolly woulda knocked it out of the catchers mit.
Watching these elite athletes make amazing catches never gets old. But my favorite compilation is long throws from the outfield to nail a base runner, esp at home plate. I think that takes about the ultimate baseball skill.
You should have gone back to the 1969 World Series where the NY Mets had 3 great catches, 2 by centerfielder Tommie Agee, both of them in the same game 3, and 1right fielder Ron Swoboda in game 4. They were made even more spectacular because all 3 were instrumental in the Miracle Mets winning the biggest upset in World Series history. After losing the 1st game, the Mets wound up sweeping 4 straight from the heavily favored Baltimore Orioles.
And how about Joe Rudi spearing Denis Menke's drive at the wall in the 9th inning of game 2 of the 1972 World Series? It saved the game and ultimately helped to save the series for Oakland.
I've meet black guys that got verticals under 9 inches. My vertical is 12 to 15 inches. Its about jump form, thigh strength, muscle memory, calf strength, core muscle group.
For me, the amazing thing about Kirby's catch was his immediate throw from the left field wall to 1st, coming close to picking off the runner before he could tag back.
I have to be honest going in that I was thinking there were going to be some ho-hum catches in this video. After watching it these really were some of the best catches ever. I've never seen many of them. Truly amazing. Nice work.
Great video. Maybe I missed it, but one of the best catches is by Kirby Puckett catching a fly ball high off the center field fence in Game 6 1991 World Series

The catch by Jim Edmonds is my favorite by far. Kevin Mitchell's bare hand grab was awesome too.
1:26 the Gary Matthew’s jr. was phenomenal
That Gary Matthews catch though.... goddamn
This stuff makes me wanna play baseball again
Clayton Fair I agree.
Ron Swoboda right field diving catch in game 5 of the 1969 worlds series against Baltimore - hands down best catch ever!
i did that one..
@@cag1763 Nope...you did not.
@@markp2629 yes i did..i made most of those catches through out my years . hardball.. softball...but I couldn't hit worth a shit..
FYI, Ron Swoboda’s catch was in game 4!
Os a long time Os fan it broke my heart. But much respect as it was a incredible thing to watch
Thanks for starting with Edmon's catch. In my opinion, the greatest catch ever!
3:18 Tori Hunter robbing Barry Bonds of a home run was the best part of this video.
1:18 epic
But no one thought of the people he crushed below
ken griffey jr was such a marvel to watch, incredible outfield, and could bat with the best of them.
Never any mention of roids either. Imagine the numbers if he avoided half of those injuries...he's my favorite player of all time. 38 y.o.
You can stop watching after the first catch. There aren't any better. GOAT
No Bo Jackson spider wall walk catch? No Kirby Puckett?
I was thinking about the Kirby Puckett catch too and some Kenny Lofton ones
Bo Jackson is the best WARRRRRR EAGLEEE

1:47 I didn't know Logan Paul played baseball
Stole comment
Paul was offered a baseball contract with Cardinals but, opted for college.
Thats australian shane watson
Paul Henry, an American h.s. player from Southern California. The St. Louis Cardinals were interested in him in 1966 an offered him a minor league contract. He decided to go to college, graduated, and joined the work force upon graduation from college.
There is a world outside America too and he looks more like Aussie Shane Watson than Logan Paul.
@@bauerj3398 Bo was so fast that he had to start slowing down at half court just to make a layup.
The Jim Edmonds catch is still the best catch I've ever seen.
It's top 5 for sure
I'll never understand why Houston built that nice, new ballpark, and then decided that the only thing missing is a hill in centerfield.
its being removed for this upcoming season
And its the biggest hill in the entire city.
Because they had no hill in the city
jrn00498 yeah! it's called a "terreas".
Mays catch is special. There have been about 20 straight back without eyes on the ball at this distance in MLB history.
people who call that catch overrated don’t understand how bizarre the dimensions of the polo grounds were. no outfielder in any current ballpark will ever have to cover that much ground
These are amazing plays. Seeing them only once is not enough.
I love when Mike Trout does something and everyone just looks around and realizes that nobody else could’ve done that
Glad you showed Willie May's at the Polo Grounds. Would have liked to see that thief Kirby Puckett in action, too!
It's impossible to beat that opening catch from Jim Edmonds. What a damned warrior.
Yaz’s catch at Yankee stadium in the Billy Rohr near-no hit game deserves to be in this video. No doubt about it.
My thoughts exactly
Just watched that catch. And it was fantastic!
Honorable mention also needs to go to Otis Nixon's spectacular leaping catch in July. 1992, robbing Andy Van Slyke of a home run
Pam Alford yes thank you that was an amazing catch that I'm surprised was not on here
Yep - that catch was the best I ever saw - better than any in this clip
Van Slyke made a few spectacular catches in his day too and i'm surprised none of them ended up on this video.
That catch also preserved a Braves 1-0 victory, and was their 13th win in a row.
~Yeah I was waiting to see if they included that one. I think that's one of the best ever.
Me: watches mostly gaming channels
UA-cam algorithm: *HEY WATCH SOME BASEBALL*

Griffey has always been my baseball idol--thanks for your super hit and catch in my life❤
2:12 That’s Polo Grounds! and also “the catch”
And I can't even catch my car keys when my wife tosses em to me when I'm running late.
I can do that.. Hold my beer

This was a great compilation, every catch was incredible. Nice job.
Logan Paul? 1:49
ZachAttack 94 IKR . GO PENS
I came down to the comment section to see if anyone else thought that it was Logan Paul
ZachAttack 94 jajaja is true
Bruh thought the same
LOL
Those were amazing for sure. I remember a really great one from Willy McGee St.Louis Cardinals I believe in the '82 World Series where he jumped so high his waist was at the top of the outfield wall.
Magee does not get the credit he deserves he robbed lots of guys great outfielder. Yes
Jim Edmonds was the best Outfielder I've had the pleasure of watching in my lifetime. Glad he was able to win a World Series with the Cards in '06
Kreege Jim Edmonds was the best you’ve seen? In that era? For comment like that I hope you’re a racist and not a complete idiot. Edmunds was good, but never in anyone’s greatest list.
He said in his lifetime. I was going to say that Edmonds catch was most impressive because he was looking over his shoulder the whole time and made a backhanded catch. 6:35
@@tyrant_tarantula What kind of a moron brings race into a discussion like this? If you don't think Jim Edmonds was at least one of the top 3 OFers in his era you're either biased or just plain stupid.
He wouldn't have started in centerfield in Atlanta...
@@tyrant_tarantula you must not have seen him play in the outfield he is one of the best to ever do it without a doubt! And I hated the Angels.
All great plays but they left off four of the best ever -- the catch by Swoboda in the 69 world series, the Bo Jackson catch where he runs up the wall, the Ozzie Smith catch over his shoulder where he dives over the outfielder coming in, and McGee in the 82 series.
Edmonds should be in Hall of Fame for his defensive skills in Center Field. He was unbelievable.
5:14 It's also intresting that 1B runner is Edmonds.
I'm from Boston but the greatest catch in MLB history is Derek Jeter's bare handed catch and throw 2 home base, Might be the greatest play of all time ??? Let alone catch and throw, play and out all in 1 !!!
1:27 is the greatest catch ever holy
Missing Lofton and Swoboda. Two of the four greatest catches.
Those two along with Edmonds are what comes to my mind as the greatest catches.
Just saw it here for the first time and I agree...and I've been watching MLB since 1969.
I think Gary Matthews Jr’s catch is the most amazing how he had to contort the glove and blindly catch
He's an instinctual player 😮
I would be kinda mad if the ball was coming right to me in the stands and then out of nowhere some guy jumps up and takes it
Bartman.
Ben Scott
Well.... They are PLAYERS
Kat LOLOLOLOL p
Ben Scott Some guy?
Let's not forget the other 10 people who were going for that catch at the same time. Even if they didn't catch it, they prolly woulda knocked it out of the catchers mit.
Watching these elite athletes make amazing catches never gets old. But my favorite compilation is long throws from the outfield to nail a base runner, esp at home plate. I think that takes about the ultimate baseball skill.
The catch by Ron Swoboda in the 1969 WS has to be on any list of greatest of all time. Tommie Agee also made a couple in that same WS.
Yes surprised it wasn’t on this list.
Agee's two catches were in Game 3 and Swoboda's in Game 4. 👍
There are probably tons of clips from 1969
Brooks Robinson took out his revenge on the Cincinnati Reds in the 1970 World Series for Baltimore.

I play basketball with black males that cant jump 1ft.
I went to school with Pakistani guys.
I've meet black guys that got verticals under 9 inches.
My vertical is 12 to 15 inches.
Its about jump form, thigh strength, muscle memory, calf strength, core muscle group.
Wow… these are amazing catches. Even the opposing teams should applaud.

Love the music. For anyone who wants to know what it's called, I believe it is "300 Violins Orchestra"
THANK YOU
Tommie Agree, Game 3, 1969 World Series, 2 great catches that saved 5 runs. He also hit a homerun that game.
Kirby Puckett's catch in game six 1991 World Series. Game saver. Twins won the series the next day. BIG MISS by you guys.
For me, the amazing thing about Kirby's catch was his immediate throw from the left field wall to 1st, coming close to picking off the runner before he could tag back.
1:27 takes the cake for the best catch of all time
Ron Swoboda's 1969 world series catch
I have to be honest going in that I was thinking there were going to be some ho-hum catches in this video. After watching it these really were some of the best catches ever. I've never seen many of them. Truly amazing. Nice work.
Eric Davis made some amazing grabs during his career especially early on
I'm not a baseball player and I really enjoyed this
Great video. Maybe I missed it, but one of the best catches is by Kirby Puckett catching a fly ball high off the center field fence in Game 6 1991 World Series
As a Twins fan Kirby will always be the GOAT to me.
Outstanding catches! This is why I feel that Baseball has more diverse action than other sports. Basketball? Small area. Soccer? Mostly just run and kick. Baseball involves lots of bravery in batting against fast, wild pitches.
