- Its no secret that the Pennsylvania is known the world over for the statis of our roads. It should be no surprise then that the largest glacial pothole in the world finds its home right here in the land of the Orange Road Cone. Archbald Pothole State Park developed around this geological marvel but the park and surrounding area have evolved into more than just a hole in the ground. Find out how such a pit was discovered and what makes a trip to this unique park worth the drive on this episode of Keystone Curiosity.

Great video, we will certainly take a look into these sites.
Hope to see you out there, Glad you liked the video!
Who would've thought that there was a state park named for a pothole😂. Totally believable in Pennsylvania. Thanks for sharing!
Certainly not at all the reputation of the stateLOL
I last visited Archbald State Park in 1988 (I was underwhelmed) and I didn’t know the state had fixed it up, I might stop in some time and check it out. I drive past whenever I go down to Dixon City, and typically just ignore it, but you make it sound nicer than I remember it.
As a local, I’ll say that only people coming from far away think Archbald is part of the Poconos. There seems to be a common misconception that everything west of Harrisburg and north of Philadelphia is “the Poconos” when, in fact, that’s a fairly small plateau around Mt. Pocono. Archbald is in the Endless Mountains.
Anyway, I’ve subscribed, I’m curious to see where you visit next, and I like your presentation style.
@@jpe1 Thanks for the subscribe! Theres actually a lot of different regions in PA that get bunched in as Poconos simply for "branding" or advertising. Kinda annoys me but I get it.
I will admit, I was also a little underwhelmed by the Pothole itself. Still think its neat enough as a place to get out and stretch your legs, but the trails on the grounds around it sold it for me, even though its not technically part of the State Park.
Glad you liked the video!
Loved you stood on that bridge with a 6 foot tape measure😂
I have been a Pennsylvanian resident my entire life and just recently found this place and I still laugh because of my understanding of Pennsylvania being known as the pothole capital of the US and here it's not just the road conditions LoL
Some of my favorite places in PA includes Pole Steeple Trail in Pine Grove Furnace state park, the hilariously named PA Grand Canyon, and Bushkill Falls.
I've heard a good bit about Pine Grove Furnace, I'll have to add the Pole Steeple Trail to the list. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@keystonecuriosity there’s a great view from the top. I like the channel and look forward to more videos from you.
Thanks for a PA travel channel! You should check out ringing rocks park in Bucks County. Take a hammer with you to wack the rocks in this glacial boulder field to hear them ring. Also try the Stony Vally Rail trail - a twenty mile long well kept path a half hour north of Harrisburg through some of the most unspoiled land in PA (big bolder fields and a great trout stream). The PA Grand Canyon is an easy pick as is the Ohiopyle rafting rapids near Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater house. Of course the very first oil well near Titusville PA has historical significance as does the Pittsburg funicular that carried steel works from their cliff-top homes to the riverside steel mills. And why not check out the famous horseshoe curve, or the birthplace of the USA at Independence Hall in Philadelphia. The list is endless!
Ooo! My friend you and I seem to have similar interests, I've actually got a videos on a few of your suggestions.
You are the first person to suggest Titusville which surprised me. I've been looking at the Drake Oil Well Museum, have you been?
Being born and raised in Pennsylvania. And proud of it, kinda. Here are a few things some forgotten. Stone ridge in palmerton. Coudersport ice mine... never been there. Somewhere around east stroudsburg is a forgotten landmark called "the glades" it used to have a historical marker. It's an unusual forest full of small hills. Probably from glaciers.
Palmerton's Stone Ridge on the AT is quite impressive, and the Ice mine is on the list but I havent heard about the Glades. I'll have to look into that. Thanks for the Suggestion!
@@keystonecuriosity I was a kid so I can't remember where it was I googled it. I looks like now it's called "the glen" I ❤️ P.A bake oven knob is cool. Also look up the Tannersville cranberry bog. Also been there!
Joking rumor was that SR 01 out of Milford almost became a park due to the potholes it had.
I've reloaded your video 4 times and the like button wiil not work.
huh, thats odd. Regardless I'm glad you enjoyed it
