    So far I’m liking all metal, turn 90, check trace, tone, ID stability. I still dig iron frequently but the machine is beginning to make sense to me. I’m still hanging onto my D2 just because I don’t question as much with it as I do the M. Thanks for the video!

      Great points, I can say the exact same thing here. I don't dig anywhere near as much iron with the updated Manticore as I used to. The new small coil makes a big difference in the iron too. Thank you for the view and kind comments!

    Great info! The Equinox series are pretty much user ready right out of the box, but the Manticore is tweakable for the various ground conditions encountered. This makes it a great detector, but perhaps not well suited for the newbie.
    I believe sharing the tips on how to make the Manitcore a better detector is far more valuable than showing targets being dug up. Thanks!!

      Great idea, I will do that. There are lots of additional settings on the Manticore and it can be a bit intimidating but it's really good out of the box as well. I can say that the Equinox 900, Manticore, XP Deus 2 and X-Terra Pro are all really dialed in right out of the box. I'll do a couple videos on my settings though. Thanks for the view and great suggestion!

    Hi Mark, great video! Very informative 😊. I finally got my manticore and have mainly been using it on farm fields here in Norway. I’m very happy with the Manticore and have not experienced so much falsing with my limited usage so far. I was hoping you could help explain why we shouldn’t use the stabiliser. Originally, I thought by using the stabiliser function we would lose depth but if I understand you correctly the stabiliser circuit does not turn on if it’s a nonferrous signal so are we still compromising depth when we use it and if so how much depth can we expect to lose with different stabiliser settings? It would be very helpful if you could have a video in your test guarded with different stabiliser setting. Thanks again for the great videos and all the helpful information 😄

    I did a test with a few targets out in a field that is polluted with heavy iron. I will never turn stabilizer on, the only result seems to be that it makes me miss targets. Sure it does calm down all the falsing, but at a huge cost. Stabilizer seems to be a feature that is designed to be used in a situation where you shouldn't use it.

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  Рік тому +3

      It is in fact another whole layer of filtering so just by the very nature that the target has to pass through two layers can muddy the water. Test it on a few coins in clean ground and you may have some piece of mind in knowing that they are not adversely affected by the circuit with real world settings of 3-5 on Stabiliser. I won't use Stabiliser at all until a target has been through the test of my ears, then looking at the variability of the target's visual ID numbers, then the red Target ID feature in all-metal with ferrous tones audible and then finally I will do all this again when I turn 90 degrees on it. At that point I am very confident in my dig-no-dig decision but Stabiliser would be the final test that I could have the signal analyzed by if I desired. Regardless of the Stabiliser feature I find the machine to much better in the iron than what we had before the update. Keep in mind that not all users are going to be confident or skilled enough to do what I have described above. Some may prefer to literally rely on Stabiliser to detect in all ground. Have you tried the new small coil yet? Thanks for checking out the video and for the comment!! I tagged you in another response below as well. 🤠

    Recently had the m8 coil on my Manticore and could not keep the nails and fencing wire from sticking to my coil like a magnet(all the way around the targets) . That little coil was horrible in iron for me. I am relatively new to this machine and kind of have a love/hate relationship with it(11 inch coil). It has amazed me on at least two occasions pulling silver coins mingled with heavy iron, yet in heavy iron and the absence of a decent non ferrous target, it will false crazy, with iron right on the purity line way too often for my liking. I will employ this stabilizer and see how I fair with it with both coils. Yes the machine has newest update installed. When this machine, and its brother, the Equinox 900 frustrates me, and They both sometimes do, I will use my Legend and have a more enjoyable hunt. Endeavor to persevere! ha ha ha Thanks for the vid Mark!

      Hello, thank you for the view and for taking the time to leave a comment. It is kind of the opposite for me as I have done much better in heavy iron using the M8 coil. So many variables though... I am using ideal sensitivity, good noise cancel, good ground balance, All-Terrain Fast top ferrous limit of 8, recovery speed 5-7 depending on how much iron. I really watch the 2D to see if it's pulling down from top ferrous limit or if painting a nice small dot on the midline. Stabiliser is useful to use in severe cases where your finding old aquare nails, especially if they were ever burnt in a fire as the conductivity in these ferrous nails is even more than the ferrous amount. Tough on any detector circuit. Could be our soil subtraction differences too. But I'm being honest by saying that the M8 Coil change my detector into my favorite and my trusted machine. I own every modern metal detector made. Thank you again for your view and comment!

    I have a test garden with coins buried with square nails . If you use the stabilizer in this situation you’ll miss the coin. Most of the targets you can only get one way already. If you turn on it even without stabilizier on it doesn’t repeat. With it on you loose it altogether. To me this update is useless. The numbers turning red , it already did that 13:59 but with just a line under it. And stabilizer makes good signals sound bad if to close to iron. I hope they do an update to their update 😊

      I see this comment was 7 months ago and I'm just now responding to it first of all thank you for your view and for leaving a comment / question! I do believe that mylab is aware of some loss of performance with stabilizer engaged especially when it's triggered in the circuit on iron. This is why they suggest that you do not use stabilizer unless you really need it because you are having problems digging nails from falsing. Thanks again for watching and for your comment!

    I guess I just need more time with my machine. My front yard at my house had a mix of coins and relics, pull tabs and giant square nails that have accumulated over the years. With my equinox I’ve found a bunch of coins, some silver. Every now and again I get surprised by something I missed or that a mole moved closer to the surface. The last coin I found was when I got my eliptical coil for the nox and bang I found a wheat penny in among the junk that I had missed previously. I got proficient enough with the nox that I felt confident in knowing what was in the ground before I dug and when I felt the need for a second machine so I had a loaner or one for the gf to join me in detecting I decided to jump up to the manticore. I took the manticore into my front yard, noise canceled and ground balanced. Turned the sensitivity up as far as I could keep it stable and began to swing and fairly quickly I hit a target ringing in around 80-82. It was stable, nice ring so I turned 90 and it still rung. There was no grunting or sounds of iron and even the 2d mapping had a nice blob with no signs of iron so I got excited thinking I’d found another coin that I had missed with the nox. I dug down and it was an 8” square nail. I double checked the hole and plug and there were no additional signals and I checked again with the manticore and the signal had disappeared. So far I’m not impressed but I’m not ready to give up just yet.

    I"ve used the Explorers and CTX for many years too but always preferred my gain high so I didn't miss the deep sounds with any background noise. Now that I just got my Manticore of course I am running my sounds with "simple". with that info, would it be safe to say that me always running Stabiliser at 4 and filter ON would be a benefit to me?

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  5 місяців тому +1

      As far as game goes I always ran mine kind of medium on the CTX cuz I like to hear depth that's because I always use really good headphones that had good ear coverage and volume. Even using the normal audio profile on the Manticore does reduce the gain of a deep signal it is much more pronounced however in the enhanced. As far as your question about stabilizer four is a pretty good setting that's what I use actually when I need to use the stabilizer. But I only really need to use the stabilizer when I'm getting a lot of falsing on square nails in my area especially ones that were burned in a fire for some reason. Those high carbon steel nails contain just as much conductivity if not more than Ferris and can really confuse the circuit. However I don't recommend and neither does my lab that you run stabilizer when you don't need to have it on. Thank you for the view and your good question and comment!

      Thank you for your kind words and comment. I have to ask on your leakage problem, did you ever take the pod off of the shaft or loosen or tighten the nuts on the bottom? Was it ever dropped hard on the control pod? I owe and use all the current metal detectors on the market right now I always have preferred mine labs for the tones I'm a big fan of the more musical tone and I've come to know their tones very intimately they speak to me and what I feel like is 3D look into the ground. So I have a big bias towards Minelab machines and always have. I am also a Detexpert for Minelab and I am very proud to represent the company. Honestly the Deus 2 vs the Manticore is a tough choice! I so very well with my Manticore and it has replaced the CTX 3030 as my go-to machine. The 8.5 x 5.5 coil is awesome and a real game changer in heavy iron or trashy parks. I hope this answers your question. Thanks again for watching the video and for your great question!

    • @steveh.894
      @steveh.894 5 місяців тому +1

      Hi Mark, So cool that you responded, and so quickly. Thanks. The reason my 800 leaked is that a wave crashed into me... water and sand forced it's way into the speaker area. Minelab replaced it. (Love the team up in PA.) I also have an Excalibur II. I prefer Minelab detectors and have been using them for 7 years. I want an upgrade with better depth and features but I don't want leaks. But truth be told 600 and 800's are notorious for leaking. Very documented and common knowledge. I will buy a Manticore if I can get strong peace of mind that they aren't leaking. If they are, I'll reluctantly get a Deus .
      The big question is... how many instances have you heard of a Manilticote leaking?
      Much appreciated!

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  5 місяців тому

      Yes there were some well documented leakage incidents. The most common reason were torsional torque forces in handle during operation. Damage due to drops or other impacts to handle area. And some were due to overtightening the screws that hold the control pod on to the handle while changing over to an aftermarket shaft system. I have not heard one single report of an Equinox 900/700 or the Manticore leaking at all. I'm sure this was Minelab's absolute top number one priority with these two designs created by engineers. I beat my machines up pretty good up here in California Gold Country. So far the Manticore and EQ 900 have held up fine in every way. I like the XP Deus II as well but the remote control won't stay on the shaft connector anymore as the rubber backing came off on two different RC's. I don't like the charging systems at all. But great performance if you can get used to the tones. I have had the Excalibur and Excalibur II over the years and they were fun in the surf. I used to hunt the rollers at beaches along the California coast like Half Moon Bay for example I was in a full wetsuit with a weight belt and chest high water and did very good staying in the heavy trough. I use my Excalibur quite a bit back then with an aftermarket shaft chest mounted on the pod. You can always find my email in the description of any one of my videos and feel free to email me anytime if you need more information on anything! Thanks again for dropping by and watching the videos!

    I include iron purposefully (except nails and flakes) when relic hunting. I'm having huge issues pinpointing since the iron is often 4-6 inches from where pinpoint says it is. This is hugely problematic for me, any suggestions? I'm also using the pinpointer mode and fast program in prospecting to double check AT General.

    The stab filter is super easy to understand. I noticed the volume drop off on those transient targets first time out. What is not clear is what the stabiliser is actually doing. Are you saying that for stab to work a second or third sweep is required for further phase analysis? If so, is anything lost on the first sweep for a small (let’s say) good target in normal hunting? I ask as People are only running on stab 1 or 2 (in norm conditions) as it steadies out those transients bleeps and allows the sensitivity to be notched up loads. All the way mostly… So is the gain in sensitivity not worth having for normal hunting? (3 Qs to answer😭!) Thanks for yr vids!

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  Рік тому +3

      Great questions: I will answer your first question but I am speaking only on Stabiliser . . . . not Stabiliser Filter in this answer . . I can't say exactly what the stabiliser is doing in the software realm but in a nutshell, I believe it is simply adding another layer of filtering (think of it as another hidden discrimination pattern superimposed over the discrimination pattern you are already running. If a signal makes it through the first (filter) discrimination pattern (that you can see and customize) , it has to pass the test of making it through the second layer (stabiliser) as well. If and when it doesn't it will make the signals that got trapped in the second layer sound choppy and exhibit broken audio. Your second question: I guess I am in fact saying that on 2nd or 3rd pass the circuit is building a final solution. In my testing I have found that signals change slightly, quickly and settle into a final audio response. To surmise that this will impact you negatively assumes that you may end up not allowing Stabilser to fairly warn you that what your listening to is going to iron falsing. Not swinging twice or three times over the same signal and therefore making your dig-no-dig choice based off of only 1 swing across the target will not cause you to miss a good conductive target, but rather could cause you to dig more iron. May I just say that anyone who has concerns about having to listen to a target for a few swings and then turn 90 degrees and listen again for a few swings and thinks this takes up too much time or is an inconvenience may not using good metal detection techniques. No matter what brand the machine or model, all signals should be sized up for a few seconds and analyzed by the human ears to make a decision as to dig or pass. You said "So, if anything is lost on the first sweep", remember that Stabiliser only warns you that what you may be hearing is iron falsing, so I don't understand what you mean by lost? No conductive or desirable targets get caught in the stabiliser. Your 3rd question: I have seen users saying that they can't understand why with Stabiliser at a setting of 1 causes the signal to sound loud on deep signals but goes back to quiet on higher settings of Stabiliser. If we take a look at the owners manual it says "The volume of audio responses is modulated according to the signal strength/depth of the target, with strong/shallow targets giving louder responses than weak/deep targets". This happens to some degree in the Normal Audio Theme and drastically more so in the Enhanced Audio Theme. So I am not quite sure what exactly is happening but I could make a guess that since Stabiliser essentially takes control of audio, at the lower setting of 1 on Stabiliser, the circuit may be bypassing the Audio Theme and therefore allowing the signal strength to not be volume modulated (attenuated) on the deep target. These are really only questions that the software engineers can answer but in my experience with the Stabiliser circuit in it's final form I do find it to be helpful if and when I need to use it. But to be honest, just with my ears and paying attention to the Target ID numbers and turning 90 degrees to listen again, digging iron is no longer the issue it was before the update, and that's without even using Stabiliser at all! One more 4th question in there about the gain in sensitivity: That would have to be tested but in most all cases a gain in sensitivity in stable ground is always a good thing to gain depth of detection. Thanks again for the great questions!! @LorenLemke

      This is a great question, since they do the same thing having enhanced profile on is not helpful to you at all if you need to use stabilizer. I'm going to stick you this in the thread because it's that important of a question. Thank you for the view and for your question/comment!

      That would be a great video. My guess is it would affect it mostly adversly. But I might make that video asap! Thank you for the view and great idea!

      What type of detecting are you doing? Parks, beaches or relics in fields? It really depends on the type of searching your doing. Thank you for the view and comment/question!

    Any idea when the new M8 and M15 coils will be available?

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  Рік тому

      They are officially available but just not shipping yet in quantities. I know it's frustrating but have your dealer check in with Minelab. Thank you for the view and comment I hope you find one soon

      There are none currently available in the US as of today. Not a single dealer has them... in fact Minelab has not even announced pricing for the M8 or M15 to the dealers yet. Probably will show up just in time for Christmas... in VERY limited quantities of course... 😕

    Is the stabilizer effective only when it’s on?

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  5 місяців тому

      Stabilizer does a very specific job and when it's on yes it can be effective but when it is not on it's not affecting the circuit at all. Thank you for the view and for your comment question

    How much depth do you lose while the stabiliser is on?

    • @BrassMedic
      @BrassMedic  4 місяці тому

      This is a great question and I don't think it's black and white enough to give you a good answer. As I test this on a coin for example where stabilizer is not trigger at all there is no loss of depth however when I test it on a iron Square nail down the barrel where stabilizer is affecting the signal there is a loss of depth that is noticeable but not significant. Keep in mind though that my lab does not recommend that you use stabilizer if you don't really "needc it. I just use it as a tool when I want to double check a signal that is warning me that it's iron. Thank you for the view and for your comment / question!

      That is an old video that you watched about the Manticore since the update (June 2023) there is a new feature called stabilizer as well but the stabilizer feature on the Minelab Manticore is quite different than the stabilizer feature on the XP Deus II. Thank you for the view and for your comment

    Not even minelab know what's going on with the manticore!!!!
    Let me explain.
    It's not that the machine faults on iron per say.
    It is the manticore favours a iron response
    I was detecting a beach I know very very very well
    Going over that beach with the manticore the hourse shoe on, you would be mistaken to think there was iron everywhere
    Not so, that beach does not have that amount of iron
    It can't therefore false on iron if it's not there
    But none the less, horse shoe on, manticore was going off with a iron tone
    That got much worse with the smaller 9x5 coil
    Minelab is barking up the wrong tree with adding a iron stabiliser

      @@BrassMedic minelab would definitely do well if they not only read my comment
      But actually put it to the test
      The problem lies in a by product off having multi IQ
