One You Tube guy had his ECM replaced and found out that OEM computers are assembled poorly, using lousy solder, and just bad solder work. It could be that the pins in the computer side of the connectors aren’t connecting to the circuit board properly but sometimes when we disconnect and reconnect it happens to air just right, then at some point it becomes a bad connection again, and I’m sure heat and moisture don’t help. Maybe that’s why some guys have to go through a couple of computers till they find one that’s reliable. Apparently the place in Cary, NC totally refurbishes them and improved the quality of the connections. After massive experience and research here’s the only consistent thing I’ve seen. One time my brother(a one time Chrysler service writer) and I were talking about it and when I dropped my hood the engine shut off. Out of the next 5 times I did it, 4 times it shut off. So I hit the cowl with the heel of my hand with it running and it shut off. Then grabbed a rubber mallet, and if I struck sharply in just the right place it would shut off. But then after disconnecting the ECM and cleaning and die-electric grease and all it didn’t do it again for two months, then came back. I’m starting to think the ECM just needs to be rebuilt or replaced.
