      I bet you do NOT know what autism is and what means to be autistic... cuz most autistic people are brilliant, most(or at least a big portion) famous physicists and scientists as a whole were autistic, but back then autism was NOT a concept.

    Why am I watching this, I don't even play League of Legends

  • @TheGreatKingPie

    This is actually a big realization for me. If this is right, I can finally find something to say when people ask me how I'm so good at a certain rhythm game, How I read the notes in each extremely fast beat.
    I remember a few times, where I was just playing a song in this rhythm game, then I suddenly start thinking of something. My mind completely goes black while I was talking to myself about this specific topic. When I finally come to senses I had finished the map with a perfect score without even realizing, or even remembering playing after my mind went black.
    I sometimes feel that I'm not the one even playing. It doesn't feel like I'm the one directly making these moves, and I say it's my brain doing everything for me.
    Whenever I'm consciously trying to play a map, I'd get stressed almost getting a perfect score, then I'd tense up, then get a mistake. As I've mentioned on my second paragraph, I feel that my conscious detaches and I just do my own thing while my own "unconscious" plays the game for me.
    As the person in the vid said, You get in the zone, and your mind goes black. Even in games like this that can happen. Especially in fast rhythm games, very tense matches in any competetive game, etc.
    Times where my mind goes black is most likely not limited to me just suddenly thinking of something. It may have happened to me while playing multiple games. I just don't remember it.
    It's quite weird, but ah well.
    If you're wondering, The game is osu.
    Yes, I'm a "weeb".

    I hate when people attribute good plays to "great reflexes". Pro gamers don't have better reflexes than other people.
    What they've practiced is muscle memory. Some people think they somehow have time to think about the best option, but they really don't. They are well prepared, they have been in the same scenario before, they don't need to think, they just do. Anyone can learn it, it just takes a ton of hard work. That's a hell lot more impressive than reflexes.

    • @forlornpreponderance2299
      @forlornpreponderance2299 6 років тому +13

      BudgeThePutcher some players do have better reflexes.
      Time in a relevant substance our brain create to help us pinpoint things happening and help us comprehend stuff.
      Time for each person varies.
      Hence why some people just have faster reaction speed like athletes.
      League is no different, what you’ve mentioned is more so a prediction.
      Let’s say me for example, I am on the 55% percentile on reaction. There’s a website that tests it, you click your screen when the screen changes colour.
      Back to the point, I’ve played league since 12, I’m 18 now. So yeah around 7 years. I’ve been in enough scenarios to instantly predict what would likely happen and how to respond to them. And I analyse a scenario before it happens, like flashing a mall hire ult because he is suddenly becoming aggressive and his jungled isn’t seen on the map for quite awhile. I might flash his ult out of prediction/ reaction.
      I can 50% agree with your statement

    • @user-lv3gp6gp1b
      @user-lv3gp6gp1b 5 років тому +13

      Pros don't have faster reflexes than average players in League of Legends (it's been tested and proven). They have better decision making and awareness. This just means that their reaction to situations will be better choices than the average player's reactions.

    I've always thought that my "zone" was autopiloting. I always thought that I could be playing better if I thought out every move in a team fight. I always wanted to ask pros if they were autopiloting or if they were actually thinking about what they were doing. This perfectly answered my question. Fantastic video. Thank you!

      the idea is to not think about each action. You want to be thinking about strategic maneuvering rather than how to combo your abilities or cs. You need to think about why you do things, not how u do them.

    Here's a useful tip, if you hold in your mind an idea of something that can happen that you will have to react to, and how you plan to react to it, you can execute it much faster than normal. Like in the statement, he expected to see an enemy in the jungle, and he had a plan, to engage on them, which with lee sin, is doing this engage. Flashing out of vision was pretty much just a panic response. Also safeguarding to a placed ward is basically one action (some form of chunking I believe). It doesn't take very long when playing Lee Sin for placing and then safeguarding to a ward to become as easy (if not easier) than placing one without safeguarding to it.

    This reminds me of a football coach named Dungy who instructed his players to make certain moves their second nature, moves they can do without thinking. As a result, this coach was able to bring the bottom tanking/ranking team to the playoffs and eventually win the championship as well. It is not overthinking that gets it done, it has to be your instinct, your second nature.

      He's correct in using unconscious since it is on a lower level than subconsciousness because we cannot deliberately use our instincts since it is on that level. Subconscious is lower than conscious where our mind deliberately brings forward processes even though you don't notice it. Take example the breathing reflex, it happens at a subconscious level, so if you focus on yourself breathing you can control how many breathes you take, hold breath, exhale etc.

      hey im not trying to hate on the channel or the player, just beeing factual and if you look closely, you can see ori ball on blitzcrank and then he pulls it very fast to lee location and SHOCKWAVE, but that animation takes so long that even for the average player its relatively easy to dodge. For a pro player whos aware flashing a shockwave is relatively easy... but i imagine at that point mike was talking to his team to focus blitz and wasnt able to do everything at the same time at the highest level possible, it isnt bad, it just isnt perfect.

      Andrew I think the point is that it was the best HUMAN reaction possible out of all . Obviously with replay we can analyze everything and see what he should have done. That doesn't mean if he encounters the exact situation again that he'll be able to have the reaction time to make that flash. The only way to make that play is to predict it, The whole point is that if he spent any time hesitating he would have died.

    This is a demonstration of logical aka reactionary gameplay, not instinctual gameplay. Event A --> reaction to A is reactionary, not instinctual. Mike Yeung has more than enough time to react to the enemy, go ahead and count the frames. I was wondering, "Why are you trying to make this more difficult than it needs to be?" And of course, you're trying to sell a product. There is no science here. Also, this play is overrated.

    • @soru3651
      @soru3651 6 років тому +3

      Absolutely. It's odd to see most of the comments are praise. He makes a mistake, then uses a very clear set function of abilities, that he's had years of practice with to escape a bad situation. This is about as impressive as raising ones arm to block a punch. This play is actually very close to being a massive game ending throw. 40 second death timers, baron up in one minute. Their team is ahead 10k gold, but it doesn't mean much if the other team had capitalised on his mistake properly. Easily could have been an ace. And with the CS, the catch up XP could've propelled it back into an even game. It's disgusting when people use result based logic to justify something being "good". Just because he escaped, and the result was acceptable, doesn't mean what he did was good.

    • @Kindlesmith70
      @Kindlesmith70 6 років тому

      @Rava ruff. Instinct is not learned nor trained. Every being is born with it.
      "Gut feeling" is not instinctive, it's something that is developed through experience, a series of events you've experienced before are familiar in your memory. Reactions can be learned and trained.
      The player wasn't born with the ability to do what is seen in the video. He has trained, through much playing, to take perform this kind of basic sequence. That being said, there is conscious thought here. He doesn't ponder all options, instead takes the first line of thought that has been programmed into his own head. That's not subconsciously doing anything really (besides moving his hands and fingers which is about as subconscious as breathing and moving in general).

    • @Kindlesmith70
      @Kindlesmith70 6 років тому

      There's always going to be a reactionary part to stimuli. He overshoots and finds out Blitz wasn't alone. His thought would be something like, "crap!", sees the first possible method of escape (our eyes are pretty fucking impressive at the speed at which they can identify things) and his hands and fingers go through the learned motions to take that path. The initial thought will still be there as a response to what is happening, but how the body reacts to that is determined by the learned motions. Lack of experience ends up with motions unknowing what to do resulting in freezing or mashing of buttons in hopes something works (in my case at times XD). Naturally there's more reactions than I've mentioned, so these are just being used as examples.

    • @Kindlesmith70
      @Kindlesmith70 6 років тому

      In the video, though, he also states that a person takes the first thought that crosses his mind without thinking too much about it. Sounds like a pretty conscious decision to me.

    • @gabrielmarciu69
      @gabrielmarciu69 5 років тому

      Acting on first thought seems like a conscious thing but appearances are misleading. A much more plausible explanation is that the subconscious quickly processed the information at hand and then took a decision. The only role the conscious mind has here is to "fake" control. Every decision you make starts in the subconscious and according to recent studies a person makes a decision before even being aware that they've made one. In other words, the subconscious mind chooses for you and the conscious mind only gives you the "feeling" of control. By looking at the brain activity of people made to choose between pressing 1 of 2 buttons we can pretty accurately predict what choice they will make before they even make the decision consciously.
      An analogy in order to understand this topic better would be the relationship between the left and right hemispheres of the brain and what happens when you cut their connection to one another, explained in this video by CGP Grey: ua-cam.com/video/wfYbgdo8e-8/v-deo.html
      Just like the left hemisphere explains the actions of the right so does the conscious mind try to fake control in decisions made by the unconscious.
      Philosophy and science aside, this guy does explain "the zone" badly. There are no thoughts. I speak from a pianist perspective because I am one and that's almost the same as a pro player "being in the zone". Playing the piano while being in the zone completely removes are conscious input. All decisions, movements are made naturally, without thought, by the subconscious. Never in one of my "in the zone" performances did I think about something. No thoughts about how to play, what note comes next, how to move my body on the chair, when to press the pedal and so on. Heck, I didn't even consciously choose where to look at while playing. Everything is done by the subconscious and you are just along for the ride. Sure, if someone asked me after the performance how I managed to play like that, I would probably say that I just followed the first thought that popped into my mind because that's the only way to explain something like that to someone who didn't experience the same thing. Like explaining colors to blind people. "Being in the zone" completely removes any ability to think ahead, behind or at all. The only focus is on the present and that's why the actions seem so natural and can't be explained with logic.

    In my opinion he Just did mistake by face check here and kick blitz, he also missed his flash ( ori ult ) and Just survive because it's 3/12 + 10k Gold of difference. He could solo lose by doing This on a other game. Dont talk about pro reflex if he cant even dogde ori ult

      He didnt see the ball on blitzcrank, thats why he kicked him, then when he saw ori he walked away from her ando probably had his eyes locked straight into her, yet the ball came from behind, from where he had visión and teammates, and completely caught him offguard. His mistake wasnt not reacting to the ori ult, it was not seeing the ball in the first place. You cant dodge something you didnt see, all he did after dad, on instinct, was great. The point isnt about it being a good play, its about surviving a bad one. After he fucked up he played perfectly and insanely fast. If you look at gold and plat players replays they look like snails in comparison.

    3:39 this is why i like to watch alot of montages and Gameplays when i start playing a new champ. Even if i sometimes im not paying real attention, my subconscious is still absorving the video, its how i can pick up champs easly and start playing on a high level in terms of mechanics.
    If you have to think what keys to press to execute a complicated combo you should watch montages, those type of combos are better executed when you in that moment visualize what you need to do and let your hands do the rest

    I dont play ranked really and even less so normal SR
    (I enjoy playing aram a lot ((I dont expect any sort of analysis for that thats not what im asking for)), therefore it has made me pretty good imo at adapting to using different champions and teamfights etc, but has in result lost my knowledge in a summoners rift environment. such things like farming, wave control, movement/rotations etc. i nly have a basic understanding of if i want to be honest with myself T^T)

    I can agree that your initial decision if usually the correct one, however the pros usually forsee the type of actions or roles their champions will take on as the game progresses, somewhat of planning ahead of time subconciously telling yourself "If blitz is out warding I will displace him since I can no longer scrap past 25 mins since I'm Lee Sin) that type of thing

    Hardware is important as well. A good mechanical keyboard, preferably one with a 1.2mm actuation point, makes a noticeable difference in reaction time. So does a 144hz monitor if your framerates are high enough.

    I've experienced being in the zone twice in league, I remember it feeling like I knew every move everyone would make, knew exactly what to do to counter them and nailing everything perfectly without trying hard at all. Once on lee sin and once on riven after around 3400 games in plat to mid diamond elo. Being in the zone is op as fuck :D And rewarding as hell too, in that state you have reached the peak of your potential and you know it. But ye, you also forget most of it. I watched the video of it afterwards and I was doing things like flashing to body block gragas from stealing baron before he even started his body slam, finding their jungler every time they left base/did camps and could ping their movements without wards. It's like having hacks, but takes about 1000 hours of dedicated practice per 1 time for me, and I've never managed to "activate" it intentionally.
