Pulled the trigger today and bought a transalp xl750 in white. Thanks for a great video 👍
I`ve had mine for two weeks, same colour. An excellent all-round bike, previously had the Adventure sports crf1100. Much happier with this bike, lighter and what an engine!
Are there any other pros and cons you have between the 2 bikes?
@@adv2go I had the CRF1000L and went to the VFR800F from that, but I think this would be a nice sweetspot that I'd also like to try. Nicer alternative to the NC750X isn't it?
@@SuperchargedLlama I have driven the nc750 on Gran Canaria motorcycle tours, great bike. I would say the Transalp is better all round bike. Riding position and engine is superb
@@adv2go simply put both bikes are great
I prefer the Transalp, lighter easyer to handle and screen and controls easyer on the Transalp. I can live without cruise control... And controls on Africa twin handlebars, And there isn't much difference in power..
@@philipwall8248 I can absolutely imagine that. I've got a slightly dodgy left knee which is why the DCT appealed, not for everyone I know (my AT was DCT and I loved that aspect of it). Having ridden the NC750x straight after the NT1100 and I found the NC750 much nicer...but it didn't have the cruise, and it doesn't seem like there's an after market option (even for the latest version).
I do think this Translap really hits a sweet spot for those of us who like it a bit more upright! Test riding isn't exactly a hardship with bikes like these, is it!
KNOX did a review with Mossy and I seem to remember him saying he dramatically improving the NC750x with a upgraded rear shock and cartridge kit.
Wow I really like your review.
I'm really glad over the pond the vegetation on the sides of the road are set back a little bit giving a little more time to see someone pulling out or getting close to the roadside while clipping along through the twisties.
I bought and collected mine last week. Great bike and really enjoying it... Great review 👍
Great review 👏 can't wait to get my Transalp this month 😊🎉🤞
Just found your channel and wanted to say thanks for a really good honest review. I didnt like the look of these when i first saw them but reviews like yours show beauty is only skin deep. May have a test ride next year and see for myself. Ride safe
Great video Bruce of a very nice, interesting bike. It’s got a great soundtrack too. Be good to see it on one of your tours. Thank you👍
Great review. Solid riding! I bought one but get it in august.... can't wait to do the twisties here in Holland
You are quite good at these reviews Bruce! Clear, consice, simple and informative.
Thanks Tim, great to hear you enjoyed it 👍
A great review Bruce, thoroughly enjoy it! Thank you!
Cheers Phil 👍
What a review, I really enjoyed watching that. I think I need to get myself a test ride booked.
great review mate love it picking mine up very soon:)
Mines coming end of August. Loved it when I test rode
Ah man! I used to go to Camber sands as a kid. We holidayed every in Hastings and I’d completely forgotten about that place!
Ha Ha, so many folk have great memories of the place - including Jay (inbetweeners) 😉🤣👍
Just hooked up. Loved this review. Have (now) a Himalayan. Went and sat on a Transalp in a showroom this afternoon. Totally made my day.
And went to get it today....😊
Nice review Bruce and some outstanding 'R' rolling from you 😁 👏👏👏
Great video, seems like a good all round mid weight bike 👍🏻 quick shifter, hand guards and of course spots in it and I think it will be great 👍🏻
Cheers Paul 👍
Thanks for a great review. And don’t sell yourself short, that rocky hill would've been tough even on my 250. Thanks again.
Excellent review Bruce keep up the great work got mine last week
I bought the Hornet back in March, then saw the Transalp in the flesh at the dealer and decided to PX for the Transalp, in black. Long long wait until Late August before mine arrives. I did a very quick test ride on my little channel, I found the handling very good and the best thing is, that engine is fantastic. Planning on 2-up day trips. Nice review Bruce.
Another great vid Bruce thank you
Cheers Jon, my pleasure 👍
Great review! Interesting bike. Might test ride that sometime. Thanks Bruce.
Well worth trying it out 👍
Very good review, may the 4'th be with you. 😉. You just got a new follower.
Best review yet by far nice to see bike used with some spirit ..
Great review Bruce - cheers! 🍻
Thanks Nigel! 😉👍
Watched your 'Pastie' video with Chopsie the other day! Very funny, loved it. This is also a great video, you two ought to team up on mainstream telly, you'd get millions of viewers not thousands! Anyway, loved this video about the transalp, look a great bike....Keep em comin!
Imagine designing an absolute corker of a bike like this & then sticking tubed tyres on it! 😂
I agree, strange that the Hornet is much cheaper and has tubeless tyres
Needs cruise control and a skid plate too.
I've been riding 54 years on tubed tires and only had one flat. Back in 1980 I had a new tire and tube installed and leaving the shop I did a full power speed shift and spun the wheel inside the tire ripping off the valve stem !
tube tires help with impact esp if you're going offroad. tubeless tires might create small bends or openings the rims on impact letting the air come out but tubes make sure that air is inside the wheels i might be wrong tho but this is my observation
@@erickdavepascua6880 maybe but the 3 adventure bikes I have owned all had tubeless tyres
Topman, enjoyed that think it could be a future buy.
Thanks TPO
brilliant review ! love the accent 🙏
Another good review Bruce.
Cheers Lyn👍
Fantastic review mate, just loved it!! I reckon you're at home on this little beast!
Aye I think it’s a great bike BUT… and I forgot to mention this in the vid, the fact Honda went for tubes tyres on this is ridiculous in my opinion, and a definite no-no for me.
@@teapotone Yeah I think Honda does miss the objective sometimes. Tubeless would be the way to go. It's in the price point but for new guys wanting to get into the ADV thing, I reckon it might be ok!
MY NEXT BIKE! AWESOME REVIEW!
Great honest review Bruce great bike for the money 👍
Cheers 👍
Brilliant review Bruce great bike
Thanks Will 👍
Brilliant review
Glad to see I'm not the only one who still has the trail sticker on his helmet from ABR 😁 can't talk .... Trying not to die make me lol in work 🤣
Totally agree with you regarding the seat I picked my transalp up couple of weeks ago and it still hurts me riding it after half hour or so .
I installed air pillion for my Transalp, and did 1000km in a day with little soreness in bum. Air pillion was made by sw-motech and I recommend it 👍
I agree!
tried getting on this at the ABR but it was fully booked up all weekend, ended up on the Africa twin
Nice to see the roads I ride. You virtually went past my house. First time I've seen your content and now subscribed for more. BTW, where is that green lane? Not that I'll be taking the Bonnie along there.
A great review Bruce very informative and enjoyable. I'm looking to order the Transalp as soon as I can sell my GSX S 1000GT. I wish they would do it in the same Pearl Green as the new CB500X comes in though.
Excellent ride and review sir ❤😂
Thanks very much 👍
Give us an option for a 20L fuel tank, heated grips, Quick shifter and Cruise control and I'll be in the Honda dealership tomorrow!! Looks like the perfect 1 bike in the garage bike this!! Great video Bruce!
Cheers Darryl,
However I forgot to mention that it’s got tubed tyres - that’s a no from me sadly 🤷♂️
Great review.- a must try for anyone thinking the Adria twin feels bigger than they want/need.
Had one out a few weeks ago - loved it - I felt a flat spot between 4K and 5k - emissions strikes again. Seriously considered chopping the AT in for it. However, stepped straight back on the AT and decided against it. The AT better bike as you would expect - my problem is a do loads of miles 24k on this one in 2 years so my trade in price means I’ve really got to want the new bike
The engine and gearbox dont really fit the bike. The engine has very little torque down low, has a flat spot between 4 a 5k rpm, and the gear ratios are absurd. This thing will do 220kph in 5th, cant even take full advantage of the 6th gear.
You need to come riding in Australia mate , probably the BEST area in AUS is in North East Victoria and the off road riding is also fantastic. Great 👍 review.
Good to see a local review and I've had my new Transalp for about 3 weeks know. Don't all seat take a good while to wear in? thats what i noticed on my last Honda CB500X took a good year then got noticably softer.
The power modes do not reduce the power but does reduce the delivery. Softening the delivery.
Just editing a vid with the Camber Sands road in 🤣Nicely done with a quality vid, now I'm doing it I can see how much work you've done to achieve that picture 👍 then again, you are a professional😉
😎
Cheers mate, much appreciated, you’ll be smashing them out better than this in no time 👏👍
go through that 50mph limit on the M20 most days... does my head in lol at least its getting better now
Checking out your Bridgestone trail sticker from the ABR Festival 👍
Great review Bruce! Looks like a very capable bike for someone wanting a lighter weight option to a big adv bike.
Cheers Scott, I do think Honda has missed the mark a bit though. They’ve marketed and designed this bike for the Sport Touring market - which is fair enough, but there’s a big chunk of people who were waiting for a lighter Africa Twin to come along.
They’ve given the Transalp tubed tyres, a nod to offroad, yet they’ve not given it a bash plate and located lots of important ‘mechanical bits’ right in the line of fire if you were to venture off onto the rocky-unstable stuff 🤢
For me it’s just a touring Hornet really.
Great fun bike though 👍
@@teapotone That’s a shame as it would be my preference off road as opposed to the AT which is very top heavy. My GSA has gone, I am riding a Husky 701 Enduro off road, and recently got a KTM 990 SMR which I am going to keep. But am in the market for a mid range ADV bike with on and off road capability, have test ridden a few but still not sure what to get…
Another nicely designed road bike with a rugged design 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
Finally got the chance to testride the new TA 750 here in Scandinavia. Highlights: Elegant apperence, quality feel, fun, agile, light, enough electronics, 6speed gearbox, led lights, self cancelling blinkers, emergency break lights, 21/18, robust suspension, lots of accessories available, accessable seat height, Good ground clearence, Good suspension travel, great sound & punchy engine. Not perfect but Adequat. Almost everything can be added including: fully adjustable suspension, cruise control & tubeless just a matter of cash. Howewer the elephant in the room: airfilter is located under the tank, no airtemperature indicator & no DCT. Wonder how to get to the the sparkplugs.
Nice video and voice with some british accent.
I am bloody chuffed to bits mate. Fancy a cuppa?
Just Lovely. ❤
Greetings From Finland👍🏁♠️
You are right with Honda seat's my cb 1000r does the same.
Great review. To me you have an enjoyable accent to listen to. 👍
I was a little harsh on this bike in another review. Stating, load it up with all the gizmo's they want, they might as well buy an AT. True, but some of us don't want that stuff. My bike is a 05 Tiger 955i, I recently toured for a week with a mate on an AT DCT. A great bike, however I was not left wanting. My Tiger is lighter, lower seat, more powerful, faster, longer range, the only complex electronics is fuel injection. Riding modes are user defined ( I learned throttle modulation as a trials boy in the 70's) all day comfort and funky orange paint. All these ADV bikes are too heavy, adding more is bad news. I say to any Transalp buyer, fit handguards, not just for offroad, they keep the wind chill off your hands. Add heated grips if you must.
Great review Bruce, just a shame Honda didn’t supply you with the optional quick shifter/blipped as this would make it even more usable.
Drive a 4x4 vehicle… I have never been off road (heavy fun off road) just back roads full of mod puddles hills wild towing.
But good to know I can if I need to. Same for dual purpose bikes.
Great review Brucey boy, you’re good at this eh? Quickly becoming my ‘go to’ UA-cam channel to pass a few hours on my wee sabbatical. Oh and when I’m back at it we’re going off-roading… STAND UP! 🤣
Ha Ha, cheers Ollie!
Mate we are 100% doing something once you’re back in Blighty👍
@@teapotone I’m holding you to that brother 😘
Lovely do-it-all bike - price means i'll likely never own one though. Used Versys 650 closer to my range which may struggle with the little ol' lady up top. Thanks for the review.
A good review Bruce, it would be interesting to see if Honda U.K. would let you have one long term !
I’d rather have something like a CRF300 tbh that I could take and explore green laning and trail riding a bit more.
Of something like the Goldwing or NT1100 and see what they’re like to live with 🤷♂️👍
🙏 Thank you for this, had been trying to decide with these bikes or the BMW gs.
Think you may have swung it for me
Cheers, ride both and see what you think 👍
Nice one Bruce. Im going to buy one now!
Ha Ha cheers mate - I forgot to mention it’s got tubes tyres though… that’s a game changer for me sadly, not my cup of tea 😬🤷♂️
@@teapotone yeah its a bummer ☹
Hello Dear I really enjoyed watching your presentation on your UA-cam channel, God blesses you always enjoy your safe ride ❤❤❤❤❤ these Japanese bikes are really good as compared with some other countries bike, even Iam also having a Honda Activa 110cc scooter 2013 model in India, really enjoyed riding this 2 wheeler ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Tubed tyres and no cruise control was a real deal breaker for me to be honest.
"Maniac" 😂 seems a bit harsh, but I'm taking it as a compliment Brucey 👍
It's not the Transalp I was hoping for. Too road orientated. But I get it. Honda will have done their research and they obviously think this is what will sell. It's not the baby Africa Twin a lot of us were hoping for. Nice bike though.
Do your video quality is really good mate.
Thanks 👍
Looks like you have had fun on that bike
What’s the beast
The Beast is my GSX-R1000 RTW bike
It's a shame Honda never gave the option for Cruise control on either of the new Hornet and Transalp. I would've been on the phone to my local Honda dealer to get a test ride and possible upgrade. Still, there are plenty of used Triumph Tiger 800's out there with it..
At almost 4000km on mine already. Previous bike Was a 22 cb500x. And the xl750 is a way better bike. It fits me perfect at 186cm. The cb had a worse geometry for my height. And the cb500x is horrible viby. The transalp i can ride all day. My shoulders. Back and butt is normal after 4-5+ hours. I was suffering on the cb. Suspension valving is very good, active and smallbump sensitive. Very comfortable. And it is som easy to ride on fast roads and slow city. Perfect for the roads here in the West Coast of Norway.
17.16 and @usernamekate gets called out. You're going to be in trouble Bruce - she's going to take your ankles out! I might be drawn to getting one when my Street Triple goes back in a couple years. 😍
looks like a good blast on that bike ;;
It’s a lot of fun 👍
Nice review, thanks. The more I see of this bike the more I like it, it is certainly very high on my list of contenders for my next 2 wheeled purchase. The newly re-released 790 Adventure is another rival for the Transalp .. very similar output and weight numbers to the Honda, just under £10K, more of an off-roader though and maybe not so competent on road.
The 890 is perfectly happy on road, so can't imagine why the 790 would be any less happy
Go for it ... fantastic bike. I'm loving mine. 👍
@@RichO1701e fair point ... but what about in direct comparison to the XL750s road manners, which is a more road biased machine than either the 790 or 890 Adventure
If I was traveling long and hard - Honda all the way.
i have a 2021 kawasaki 650 versys and it cost us £9400 new and that was the mid range version which come with panairs but i asked for a top box fitted to it as well (i am curious how much more expensive it is for the Honda to get the panairs and top box with it?), the bike has adjustable Showa front forks and preload adjustment on the rear for going 2 up. it has a quoted 65hp and 40 odd torque (if i remember right). i did notice when taking the bike for its service few weeks back that the current year versys has digital dash now rathen than part digital, part analogue.
its very similar to the Honda in the video, at motorway speeds (it could do with the sprokets changed to gear it better to sit at 70mph and get better fuel consumption) i know i will get 180miles max out of a tank so usually stop around the 160mile mark for fuel. the seat was fine for first 5000 miles but could do with a jel implant for more comfort.
2 up usually you need to drop some gears to make an overtake but it can do it. the screen can adjust, i am 6ft, have the screen on max height and its comfortable for me.
i actually think the kawasaki (if the new model has the same features as mine and similar price) is just a bit better as it looks like the screen on the honda doesnt adjust and possibly cheaper, depends if you want the extra HP but that is just a view from watching the video and comparing to what i got.
oh and as someone tried to steal my bike, the handle bars twisted before the steering lock snapped because of the design, which is good bad news, as they couldnt ride off with it but it cost me just under my excess to get the handlebars fixed (they replaced the handlebar to be on safe side as couldnt work out if still ture to shape but everything else was straight and true).
i do agree that mid range adventure touring bikes should have 20ltr fuel tanks and comfy seats, its what the bike is meant to do, eat miles and be cheaper on insurance than a 1000cc+ engine. cool video though.
I know the Camber road very well but from the Hastings side
Looking forward to the Japanese to "release the hounds" across the pond! Why we have to wait 9 months ~ 12 months for Honda bring it here to the States? Great review. Cheers
You should try a CFmoto 800mt tour or even the new explore version. Definitely a competitor. I have one, the finish, quality and standard features for the price will impress. Nice review, I like this bike also.
Cheers.
I’ve had a load of people say that in the comments of this vid actually, I’ll need to see if I can get my hands on one 👍
Just got a puncture 200km from home on Sunday. Plugged, inflated and on the road in10 minutes. I don't want to be a long way from home on a tubed wheeled bike if I can help it, especially abroad, far too much hassle altogether. I'll take an Aprilia Tuareg with cruise, tubeless wheels and fully adjustable suspension, available in the UK for £9,699.
Really depends how u drive on how much fuel u use. I wanted to see how far i can go on a tank if i take it easy, I got scared at 400km and filled it up, got 15.9 liters in, so in theory i had maybe 20/30km left. If you thrash it ofc your mileage will go down alot
you should have taken it around the road from rye to battle, literally the best set of twisties in the south
"reviewed" my new 790 adventure over the last week, and think for 10k I have the better buy (I mean I would say that as an owner). I do have cruise control, quickshifter, very smart electronics, and almost certainly much better off road bike. For anyone buying on finance (and most do, probably) the KTM is actually a fair bit cheaper overall too, even after the tech pack. Only plus for the Honda I think is maybe the engine will live longer...maybe.
Loving the ABR sticker still on your helmet or did you take one from there to test?👍🏼
No this one’s direct from Honda 👍
Ride to Aberystwyth. Brilliant!
Good review Bruce.
Having owned the 1st & 2nd gen transalps, I found them both to be great all-rounder bikes. But is 10 grand a budget bike? Given that there are so many parts integrated from other models, I would like to see more spec as standard for your dosh.
All bikes, regardless of price, incorporate parts from other models, and/or generic parts. This has a brand new engine and chassis - -more than most.
@anxiousappliance yes correct, so given the hornet is £3k cheaper, my point is I'd like to have seen more kit on the transalp as standard. Even a centre stand is extra!
100% agree with this its way too expensive. Would have made a great commuter but not at that price 😕
Should come back to Norway 😃😃
I'm very familiar with those roads down there in east Kent and Sussex. That was a very quite day around Camber. Did you have a pop into the 1066 cafe? There a chap there apparently out the back with a motorcycle riding gear shop. One thing tho, get off the A21 as quick as you can it's a dangerous road.
Ha Ha, aye I did pop in to see Sam, top bloke 👍
@@teapotone One of my sister's lives about a mile away. I'll pop in there soon with them for a brekky
Nice review as always. How would you feel about this as a first bike for a mature gentleman just getting into biking? Asking for a friend obviously! Any thoughts welcome.
I think it would be a great first bike actually, docile enough not to be like a bucking bronco for a newbie, yet powerful and capable enough to grow with your developing skills and keep you engaged with a smile on your face 👍
It's in no way an off road bike, even Honda will tell you it's a road touring bike.
Look underneath at the sump, you would need one hell of a bash plate to protect it.
Should have had cruise control, and tubeless tyres. It would have cost Honda pennies spread over the amount of units built.
Instead of the CB500X headlight they should have used a twin round headlight setup, a slight nod to the original Africa Twin, which is what people were hoping this would be ( a smaller Africa Twin).
The dash looks out of place, too much surrounding plastic.
Also the rear subframe should have been a bolt on, welded rear subframes can write off a bike if dropped and bent.
The Transalp 750 had so much potential, but i think Honda has missed some major points with it.
I think you’re right there 👍
Thanks for a great review! I have a 2019 V Strom 1000 but I like the looks of the Trans alp. I’m a big guy like you and I do some trips with my missy on the back. She’s not a fatty but not a ballerina either. Will the trans alp be a bike for us or should I keep the V Strom or buy an older GS 1200?
Have fun and be safe!
Peter from Denmark. 😊
Hi Peter,
I’d personally keep the VStrom, or even better still, go for the GS/big Adventure bike, if you’re going to be doing trips with a pillion👍
Took one out today Bruce as a demonstrator from Smiths Honda in Chester...
Had it for 2 hrs and used half a tank .
Agree with you on all points and i have checked out most of the Transalp videos out there.
Worth mentioning that Honda offer 4 or 5 "packs" with accessories ... including a Quickshifter ( priced about £250) These options can start to seriously add up so worth looking at keeping that (wet) 208 kg under control by minimising unnecessary bolt-ons ?
SW Motech lower bars, belly pan and proper barkbusters might work well and be cheaper ?. Plus Hondas own heated grips (controlled via the TFT display) and useful bits like aftermarket AUX lights, winglets etc etc
I too am disappointed though, with the absence of Cruise Control ( i also have a GS like you do ) and the headlight is straight off the 500. Maybe Honda don't want to make a smaller version of their Africa Twin ? ... that might affect sales of their other adventure range ?
I would have preferred the grunt to have been remapped so it is all low down ? This bike encourages the rider to ride faster than they might otherwise, just to access the fun segment in the higher end of the rev-range.
Still a great motorbike regardless - just not decided whether to make it my 2nd bike or is there a better value alternative ?
Personally, if I already had something like a GS or other big Adventure style bike that allowed me to do road/offroad/tour etc with ease, then it would be the Hornet all day long.
Fantastic, fun bike for very ‘little’ money by todays standards
Nice review Bruce.
I almost bought one back in February when they finally confirmed the price. The wait was too long for me, needed something sooner, ended up with a KTM890 adventure.
2 things were a turn off for me, no cruise control and tubed tyres. Got the KTM for 3 years, so might have a look at the Translap then. Hopefully Honda might have added CC by then.
Maybe in the UK but not here in Aus
Here bikes like this see dirt & a lot of it at that 😁
I thought about buying the Transalp 750 moving up from my 2022 CB500X, but the only improvement are wheel size, the front suspension preload adjustable, larger LCD screen, limited traction control, and more power with 270 degree crank making a bit more smooth. However, it's seat is 1/2 inch higher, resulting in higher center of gravity, weighs 20 lbs more, frame weight is 10 percent less than CB500X, has the same stupid raked seat thus moving the load up higher affecting stability and making it difficult to mount with luggage on it, 60 miles shorter range, and tubes in the tires eliminating plug and go, and lacks cruise control.
great review. Where is this accent from? Scotland?
Great looking bike, and even though I don't need it, I kind of want it. Started on a dual sport as a kid and never shook the love for the style. Currently on a cruiser that suits my overweight ass a lot better... as for helmet wind noise, the problem with medium high windshields is that they kind of give you a compromise that's the worst of all worlds. It doesn't prevent buffeting, it adds to it, but it does rob you of wind flow to keep you cool on hot days too. I'd rather ride a little more naked with a lower shield; if I bought this I'd probably lop a few inches off that shield. On my own bike, I have two shields with quick swap mechanisms - one is cut down right to the bone, so wind hits in the upper chest area, ideal for summer runs. The other is taller than I am and gives an incredible quiet bubble, perfect for cooler weather or long runs. But I digress; it does seem like Honda has created yet another fantastic bike for decent money.
I had to rewatch you say 'gggggravel' 3 times lol
