I don’t completely agree with everything you say but I do agree that informed consent should be an option along with medical professional intervention aka therapy and things like that. I believe that gender dysphoria should definitely be considered as a mental illness or disorder. Only because in the US insurance companies and completely refuse to cover treatments for gender dysphoria if it isn’t considered a mental disorder. I can’t speak for places outside the US since we don’t have free healthcare options here so keeping the gender dysphoria diagnosis as an illness and a way to prove to insurance companies that there’s an issue that needs to be treated, helps so many people here who wouldn’t otherwise be able to receive said treatment.

that's a fair point, i think in order to make that change in places without free healthcare something else needs to take it's place. Like it's a source of distress so it should be seen as necessary, regardless of classification as a mental illness
