I’ve been unhappy with my beauty spending emotionally and financially for a while now, and I so admire your No Buy Year. Your videos are causing me to take an honest look at my motivations and collection and begin the process of enjoying what I own instead of opting for the high of purchasing new items. Love the videos!
Thank you so much for your comment, Caroline! I'm glad the videos have been helpful. It's been an amazing experience so far, embarking on this project. I can't believe how many years went by where I knew I was making myself miserable by over-spending but I didn't do anything about it. I hope you enjoy getting to know your collection better! That aspect has been a real pleasure for me. xoxo
Hi Hannah, I recently found your channel and love it! You have encouraged me to use up what I already have before going out to buy the next thing. The beauty community needs more voices like yours so keep it up! I have tried The Ordinary 5% lactic acid and liked it. I’ve recently bought The Ordinary 10% lactic acid and I love it. It leaves my skin so, so smooth. The price for the Good Genes here in Australia is $154 which I just can’t justify spending, so I’ll need to stick with the 10% lactic acid from The Ordinary. I’d encourage you to try it as an option.❤️
Hi Eve! Thanks so much for this review. I'm nearly out of Good Genes and I'm going to have to decide soon, definitely leaning towards this option. xoxo!
The bendy wand that you don’t like could be useful in terms of accessibility, for instance those that might not have full range of movements with their hands but still want to use make up 😊 just a potential thought
I adore how detailed your reviews are! And thank you so much for listing and linking every item in the description every time! Your skin is flawless! Loving your content ❤️
The red lipstick is pretty on you! You’ve done great with using up product! Besides my low/no buy with makeup products and perfume, using the things I have has extended categories. I have included things that have been hanging around awhile- lotions, hair care products, skin care products... As I use things up, I’ll only be replacing the more specific items that I need. But in the meantime, this low/buy is helping me to appreciate the items that I have and I’m enjoying using them!
I actually put my Bioderma micellar water in a small spray bottle, even though my bottle comes with a pump. The reason for this is because: 1. I use a microfiber cloth to take off my make up, and spray bottle makes it easier to get the liquid on a big area; 2. I use the micellar water to spot clean my brushes on a daily basis. I spray the micellar water on the brush, as well as on the microfiber cloth i use to wipe it off. This way I always have clean brushes =)
I've used the Belif moisture bomb and I have to say, I don't think it's any better than Neutrogena's Hydro boost gel-cream. I'm also on a "replace only what you use up" type year, and when I used up the Belif one, I didn''t repurchase (because i received a gift Algenist moisturizer.)
Great suggestion, thanks! I will check it out. I'm out of the belif cream now and I am starting to feel like I need a less expensive night cream so that I CAN slather it on willy-nilly as is my wont. Thanks for the comment!
New sub and I thought it was very cool that you even included samples of items..I will try the ordinary lactic acid 10% even tho I have been dying to try the good genes for months! Great vid girl!!
I do recommend trying Good Genes at some point, but if you've never used lactic acid, the one from The Ordinary will be a revelation! Stephanie Nicole has also been talking up the Tarte Knockout toner, which has a lot of lactic acid in it...I'm considering switching to that for a while after I run out of Good Genes.
I do use up my products. I’m good when it comes to a lot of categories but a lot of them I go ham. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 I’m thankful to have started my no buy. Feeling anxious because 3 foundations from my Makeup artistry kit are about to be done and I have to repurchase them because my kit is my job and I have to buy bioderma and I feel like I don’t want to spend the money since I started my no buy even having that on my rules is not helping me feel happy about having to purchase it. Any way Hannah you’ve helped a lot. Your channel and my control over my life will be my anchors this year and hopefully I’ll change my habits completely and pay my debts fully. ❤️🙌🏻
Your intro had me cracking up 🤣 Omg lips with new items... such a traumatic feeling. I have trial sample sizes of the moisture surge. I keep wanting to give it a go, but my history with CLINIQUE skincare is not the best. (I have to run, but will finish the vid tomorrow. About 1/3 through.)
Hi Mandie! Clinique always confuses me b/c they seem so "clinical" (clinique-al?) but their ingredients aren't the greatest. I think formula-wise their skincare is a little outdated, and if you have sensitive skin it might be an issue. That's one other reason why I probably won't repurchase the moisture surge. But I do wholeheartedly recommend trying the sample if you have it. I had a sample tube once and that's how I got hooked. My skin loved it.
The tiny specks of paint!!! The tatcha silk sunscreen does the same thing. One would thing that specks of pastel purple all over the face would look lovely, but not where it's not where you don't expect it. Or don't see it until you are at work.
Hey Hanna! Love your channel. I am trying to use up my stash myself. And i do have one question: how do you use your lactic acid and vitamin c within the same routine? I dont want to do nothing harmful to my skin.
I always use vitamin C in the morning and Lactic acid at night! Neither of them is harmful or reactive, so you can use them together with no problem. But in general, morning is best for vitamin c, and I like to use my lactic at night so it can work while I'm sleeping. xo!
Im so envious that snail cream works on you! They make me break out like crazy!! I have this weird acne prone skin that became dry because of accutane so now whatever is moisturizing enough breaks me out and what doesnt break me out leaves my skin a bit dry at the end. The best skincare line ive tried is cleau de pea (got it as a gift) and it was the best skin i had without medication. Unfortunately, the price of the full sizes is like the asian version of la mer 😭 waiting for the ordinary marula oil to save my current skincare routine. Do you apply oil as the last step to put as a barrier over moisturizer?
I have also taken accutane and I use clinique’s moisture surge. It doesn’t break me out and it helped me a lot when I had chapped skin during winter. Maybe that will help? Hope you find something that works for you!
The packaging of the Ceramidin cream has been updated! That’s my HG moisturizer and I LOATHED the packaging, too. But it’s in a nice normal plastic tube now.
Sooooooo, I'm definitely commenting on an old video, maybe you won't see this. In any case, I worked in the spa industry for almost a decade. Pro tip - when you're close to out of products like the Clinique moisture surge mask, cut through at about 2/3 down from the top of the tube. Nearly always you'll find at least one more application. A wooden tongue depressor or something similar (butter knife, maybe?) will help to scoop out anything hard to reach. If you have more than one application left, you can use the top 2/3 part as a lid - just slip it over the top :)
I have oily combination skin but my skin doesn’t really like the tlc from drunk elephants 🙈my skin loves good genes more haha. I do like the baby sukari from DE. Also love your empties. You used up so many products 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Good to know! Good Genes for all! :) I also love the baby sukari. I ran out of that in January and can't repurchase for a while, but I'm looking forward to it. xo!
I don’t comment ever but you’re doing such a good job that I want to encourage you to keep it up! I found you through the makeup use up group on Facebook and now I’m binge watching all your videos. So I’m not sure if you said it in this video or another one but I have been discovering that as I use things up, I’m not compelled that I need it. Like eyeliner. I realize that as long as I wear mascara, I look the same with or without eyeliner. So I stopped wearing it. We have been lied to that we need x product. But we don’t need it all. Anyway, thank you for putting yourself out there to be the minority voice of reason. Yes to everything you say!!
yes, I've been experiencing that in a major way with both skincare and makeup. I was actually considering a video called "common makeup products that you might not need" or something like that. The current popular look involves so many products, but makeup can be so much lighter, simpler and quicker and still look great, or even look better. Thanks for commenting! I'm so glad you're here! xoxo
I think water based moisturizer will perform better under oil. Oils have bigger molecules so they seal everything in. Of course skincare is personal so do whatever works better.
I've read in several places that a good rule of thumb is to go in order of the thickness of the substances, whether they are oil or water based. So, watery essence is first, then toner, then watery serums, then more viscous serums, then oil, and moisturizing cream as the final step. This is the general procedure that I follow and it works great. In my experience, the only thing that causes a problem in layering is silicones. Layering an oil over a silicone can cause pilling. But I try to avoid silicones until I get to the makeup step (I think there are some in Good Genes and in the Perricone MD moisturizer, though, so those go next-to-last and last respectively in my routine). I agree that it's personal, though, and wildly different things can work for different people!
Hannah Louise Poston That’s true. More precisely products with less water should be applied first. Oil may be runnier, but it has less water than water based cream. Putting oil on first may prevent water based cream make it to your face.
I bought the mascara. Bend is not all gimmick. It's meant for lower lashes and useful there for the inexperienced, older folks, and we who use 1 mascara & wand for top lashes, and a separate mascara & smaller wand for bottom lashes.
Not starting my no buy year until 1st october but ive been desperately trying to pan all of my products since January and ive FINALLY got down to one black mascara 😂🤣😂🤣 I haven't actually purchased a mascara in over 10 years because I have black lashes that are pretty long so I don't wear it every day and I feel like you get a free sample of mascara with everything you buy 😂🤣😂🤣 so I'm pretty excited, when it comes to replacing my mascara I'm actually going to have to think about which one I actually like! As apposed to just moving on to tge next free one I have! Xxx

Your voice is so calming! You have inspired me to only purchase replacements when im done everything in that category, thank you!
thanks, Andrea! I'm so glad you're inspired! xoxo!

We're so glad your skin is back to normal! And happy Moisturizing bomb is in the lineup 💕💕
thanks! I'm absolutely loving it!!!
Belif USA, please come to sephora in Canada!! I want to try your products!
You can find us in The Face Shop for now!

that's so smart!
The 2 thumbs down you’ve got is probably Sephora and her mother
Bahahaha! this made both me and my boyfriend laugh out loud.
Love your minimal make up in this video! You´re looking very young and fresh.

I put oil over my serums to lock them in, then moisturizer as a sleeping pack on top! but I know there different theories.

How did you get all these different samples? Cause a couple of these samples your talking about are ones I want to try.
Best intro to a video ever *snorts while laughing* lmao
:)
I’m not sure if you ever watch Dr. Dray here on UA-cam, but she is a board-certified dermatologist based out of the Houston area I believe. She is a breath of fresh air to me on skin care product reviews. She provides a wealth of good solid evidence-based information to her viewers.
yes, I have watched some of her videos!
Ashley Cisper-Cox I love Dr. Dray. She has saved me so much money with her no nonsense skin care, and my skin looks great as a bonus!
LHA is good for oily exactly for the same reason: coz it does not make u dry. Coz skin overproduce oil to compensate dehydration
Apologies 🤣 Great delivery.
Also I can’t speak for the comparison to good genes but I have the ordinary lactic acid 10% + HA and it’s amazing
good to know!
Maybe you already do this put cut the seal at the top and use the last bit!
What is a active mask
pretty lip color
