      well i'm sure they don't want to record the entirety of them working. that would be boring but it would also bother her co-workers, i'm sure. just an FYI, we don't normally code all day. that leads to burnout, fast. most of the day, at my office anyway, is spent in meetings. coding is important, but if everyone isn't on the same page, that pretty much makes your work pointless.

    Yup.......I'm a software engineer too, looks like my day minus the make-up parts lol
    People need to know that just because we are not in front of a PC writing code, doesn't mean it's not on your mind. Many times it is essential to walk away and reset our brains to find an error.
    Additionally developers are constantly think about their code and what's coming down the pipeline, from the moment our eyes open until they close.

  • @domtremb5650

    I think a lot of people are questioning the multiple "breaks" or "stops". Let me just say this, companies like Airbnb do not check how much time you do coding but they expect results and creativity, which is why there are so many perks.

    I appreciate this is a honest day to day video. I used to be in product design as a manager and although most days were made up of briefings and meetings, the structure and content was both similar but different all the same. These days I'm a D&C manager and its about 20 different meetings a week but I'm also out and about physically interacting, mentoring, helping my engineers where I can. I mentally couldn't be a software engineer anymore, I'm too fidgety and need too much stimulus but that's probably because life changes when you have kids

      Maybe its a biased notion, because on those videos people don`t keep filming themselves while looking at a screen (work part/boring video). Instead, the takes of breaks and other activities are more interesting to watch... but still, I think I take less breaks then people on these videos too.

    I do not even understand why some people so rude. This video gives a message that all she do is not about sitting in the corner and code for a whole day and not such stressful things but all about collaborating and meeting. For me, as a software student I see her and my future job as a very comfortable and flexible. Pets, dishes, people meetings are what makes person calm and prepared to work. Thank you Luba for sharing. You are giving a good example for people.

    what is computer software engineer. did you go back to school after software and do the extra 2 years to complete all the comp eng credits? I was thinking of going back and getting electrical to go with my software since the curriculum was the same for first two years. I'd only need to do the last 2 years excluding electives

      electrical-engineering(ee) contain lots of mathematics.software-engineering(se) is about writing code.se complexify a problem,making a software can anticipate many kind of input.ee/mathematics,simplify a problem to get 1 final result.if a person has ee and se then that person can complexify and simplify.maybe that is not sustainable for mental-health.

    • @vdns477
      @vdns477 6 років тому

      Sierra Marie You're still not getting my point, I'm talking about having to stay at work, the breaks are there because of the unhealthy work-life balance, unless of course she stayed on her own which I doubt because who would choose to stay at work. This new "startup" culture is about having quite some free time from these breaks , but at the same time you get to work all day.

    I love this video! Just a quick question, I'm looking to become a software engineer in Swift, what are the best companies to start applying for and what kind of fields can I expect to have a chance to get into when I'm just starting off? Any advice from anyone would be hugely appreciated! 🙏
