"until you can see these constellations." what a great way of explaining it.

    2:47-3:34…penny drop moment!
The 3 and the b7 are the tones which guide to the next chord (hence guide tones!) which are a semi tone away. Crucial info there.
I will work on mapping out the 1 3 and b7 as triads all over the fretboard, much like I did for the 1 3 and 5.
    Sweet, thanks GT.

Guthrie has a gift of guitar and gab. He’s able to effortlessly explain complex techniques in laymen’s terms. Dudes on point. It comes natural to him. That being said this man has put the work in. Much needed light in these crazy times. Thank you Guthrie for another gem! You never cease to amaze

Mr Guthrie, thinking of these chords as constellations is a great way to think about it....and clearly you are a very bright star in the constellation of music. Thanks so much for your openness to share your musical and personal wisdom. Soooo appreciate it all.

Really like the quick slide at around 8:57 from the 2nd (?) to the minor 3rd (?). Tasty!

Anyone else here amazed at how Guthrie Trapp just keeps raising the bar? I have never not been in awe of his playing, teaching and his attitude towards approaching music. One of my biggest inspirations of all time.

In passing Guthrie mentioned being able to see these chord "constellations". What a great way to think of them!!! I feel like studying chord diagrams will be huge for me!!! Thanks for the suggestion!!!

Thank you so much for this video! I'd always struggled to play something cool over major chords, especially over blues jazz progressions like Charlie Parker changes, but this hybrid pentatonic idea has unlocked the whole thing for me! Playing 20 years and still learning. Much love from Europe!

I’ve never met a guy named Guthrie who isn’t a guitar wizard. Lol. Hey but seriously, you’re such a good dude for taking the time to share this stuff. Thank you so so much for these videos. They have been huge for me the past few weeks. In a bit of a creative slump recently but every time I watch one of your videos I come alive!

You have a constant message my friend, In my private lessons with you and the AW curriculum. Your message and teachings never waver! These fundamental principals are the foundation of playing over the chord changes and sounding melodic. It just takes the time in the woodshed practicing them over and over using a backing track, old records or metronome to keep tempo.

Yes, so often you emphasize the importance of paying attention to the flat seventh and the major third.
Yes, I need to hear these things in your playing and the playing of others over and over again because it takes repetition to make these things stick.
    Thank you for your help.

exactly. this level of playing can quickly get overwhelming, and there is a fine line to where you can actually pick up a solid lick or concept to really include in your vocabulary. most players are a bit guarded, but Guthrie is very generous with his time and knowledge.

Can anyone explain why the "G" shape minor is actually the "A" shape? I get the "E" shape would be at frets 5-7, so the "G" shape would be 3-5, and that playing a "G" shape would be playing a major not minor, and the relative minor is always the previous box pattern (2 minor pattern is the 1st major patter)... but it still looks like what he's calling the G shape is really the A shape
