Combining Major and Minor Pentatonics On Guitar
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 вер 2024
- Here’s a video shedding a little light on combining these two pentatonics over Dominant 7 chords. This is very important to be able to break free of the pentatonic box. Enjoy!

Guthrie has a gift of guitar and gab. He’s able to effortlessly explain complex techniques in laymen’s terms. Dudes on point. It comes natural to him. That being said this man has put the work in. Much needed light in these crazy times. Thank you Guthrie for another gem! You never cease to amaze
Mr Guthrie, thinking of these chords as constellations is a great way to think about it....and clearly you are a very bright star in the constellation of music. Thanks so much for your openness to share your musical and personal wisdom. Soooo appreciate it all.
"until you can see these constellations." what a great way of explaining it.
Anyone else here amazed at how Guthrie Trapp just keeps raising the bar? I have never not been in awe of his playing, teaching and his attitude towards approaching music. One of my biggest inspirations of all time.
Wow. Thanks so much. That really is a great compliment and very kind and inspiring words. I’m happy to help and glad it’s working.
The Telecaster sounds perfect . Great information too ..... Thankyou .
2:47-3:34…penny drop moment!
The 3 and the b7 are the tones which guide to the next chord (hence guide tones!) which are a semi tone away. Crucial info there.
I will work on mapping out the 1 3 and b7 as triads all over the fretboard, much like I did for the 1 3 and 5.
Sweet, thanks GT.
I love how you talk about these concepts and demonstrate them in a musical manner Guthrie! Thank you!
when Guthrie teaches, I sit up and pay attention
exactly. this level of playing can quickly get overwhelming, and there is a fine line to where you can actually pick up a solid lick or concept to really include in your vocabulary. most players are a bit guarded, but Guthrie is very generous with his time and knowledge.
You have a constant message my friend, In my private lessons with you and the AW curriculum. Your message and teachings never waver! These fundamental principals are the foundation of playing over the chord changes and sounding melodic. It just takes the time in the woodshed practicing them over and over using a backing track, old records or metronome to keep tempo.
What do they charge for AW?
@@ericantoszewski34 Prices very if promos involved but there is several different terms and prices (3/6/12 month plans). Check out the ArtistWorks website, the info is all there.

because there are always haters and losers on the planet.
Can't thank you enough Guthrie for helping to unlock the fingerboard and show us the way!
Intro…Brutal !
Better than anything for a sunday morining..🎸🥰! Cheers from France
Thank you Guthrie, yeah I think I start to get it, working and working and ... but I start to get it. But it s a looonnng journey (of music ). happy to see you so positive and passionate ! cheers from West -Paris ( :) )
Trapp lookin good post-covid.. lost weight and trimmed his nails. You go boy!
That is an important concept, just got to learn them. Thanks a lot as always.
Best lesson yet. Thanks!!!!!!!
Off the inspirational charts! Superior feel and Next level precision thnx for the vid!
Wow! Amazing introduction
Thank you so much for this video! I'd always struggled to play something cool over major chords, especially over blues jazz progressions like Charlie Parker changes, but this hybrid pentatonic idea has unlocked the whole thing for me! Playing 20 years and still learning. Much love from Europe!
Man you look great!!! Well done dude.
Awesome stuff and looking like you're loosin some weight there man! Good stuff!
Always a pleasure to hear you play and explain how ya did it.
I wanna say I seen on Facebook today the picture of yourself at a young age when you got the music master behind ya. Looks great!
I love these lessons, thanks Guthrie!
Thx Guthrie. You rock, Bud! 👍😊🎸
Love these lessons. Serious question from someone who has never been to Nashville: is there something wrong with the west side? GT really emphasizes EAST. 😀
Great tone on that guitar today
That intro was sick!
Thanks again GT. Really appreciate this info. 👍
Really like the quick slide at around 8:57 from the 2nd (?) to the minor 3rd (?). Tasty!
Thanks for another great lesson!
Cristal clear. Great lesson. I am moving forward in this direction and it is nice to hear your insights on this. 👏
Thanks Guthrie, you are a great educator of this new online era. I am from Chile, and having the chance to get information from great player and educators like you is incredible. This is a positive thing of the online era.
Thanks again!
Explain and give examples well . Let me feel fun sound. Thanks
GT is an amazing player and a really good teacher. Pay attention to the man, you will learn to flow.
Hi Guthrie I think your playing is amazing, it's so warm and rich of phrases. Why don't you put together all this videos en make a Complete course?. I will buy it (sorry I don't like plans)
Nice Work, Guthrie! #90👍
Hey Gutrie! Awesome lesson my man! I would love to see your musical genius explain modes I know I would get it and its relation to changes and chord shapes if someone with your talent explained it! Thanks,
Stephen from Ireland =)
Thanks man!! I don’t know what modes are.
This lesson will save you years of pecking around looking for the right note....
I couldn’t agree more.
Much respect...
Thats what Im talkin about.
Can anyone explain why the "G" shape minor is actually the "A" shape? I get the "E" shape would be at frets 5-7, so the "G" shape would be 3-5, and that playing a "G" shape would be playing a major not minor, and the relative minor is always the previous box pattern (2 minor pattern is the 1st major patter)... but it still looks like what he's calling the G shape is really the A shape
Is every guitar player named Guthrie always so ripping good?
He actually used the dominant pentatonic. 1235b7
Great tone on that guitar today
In passing Guthrie mentioned being able to see these chord "constellations". What a great way to think of them!!! I feel like studying chord diagrams will be huge for me!!! Thanks for the suggestion!!!
tasty intro
I’ve never met a guy named Guthrie who isn’t a guitar wizard. Lol. Hey but seriously, you’re such a good dude for taking the time to share this stuff. Thank you so so much for these videos. They have been huge for me the past few weeks. In a bit of a creative slump recently but every time I watch one of your videos I come alive!
Guthrie thanks so much for continuing to post these lessons and for taking the time to say hi. We saw you on Thursday at the kitchen and my wife and I had an amazing time. Appreciate you and thanks fir everything. Tim from Chicago
Yes, so often you emphasize the importance of paying attention to the flat seventh and the major third.
Yes, I need to hear these things in your playing and the playing of others over and over again because it takes repetition to make these things stick.
Thank you for your help.
\m/ now you’re speaking my language\m/
Now if I could only play country like you! :)
Awesome stuff!
Thanks again bro! I've been watching all these videos on yt and offcourse the AW Curriculum. The thing is that I'm starting To hear these changes in my head. In advance. I pretty much know where the melody is going or what are the options - weird:) Next goal is To Move all this knowledge To my hands and fingers. Thanks a bunch!
My problem is I have a million licks but can't keep track of where I am in the progression.
But... why minor pentatonic matches always, and major not always (not to each chord)? Can you explain thath fucking mystery?
Stop that. Seriously.
I have made significant progress on guitar since discovering you on UA-cam 2 years ago. Been doing your artistworks curriculum as well
So gifted....
That was very good my friend I know all those concepts but you put it into a compact disk for me. Thank you very much great work great artist keep it up.
These videos are SO good! I wish i had these when i started 25 years ago. But it is not to late! I will take a private lesson eventually for shur!
Thank you Sir Trapp for your insight it is a privilege.
Thanks for your great guitar inputs and advice.
constellations , , , great term ! !

More great stuff. Thanks so much GT!!
Badass stuff!!!!! Love!
Good stuff Guthrie your on a roll
Ive been at trying to combine min/major pentatonics for a while, this video was the breakthrough for me. It almost seems so obvious now! and my ear is saying yes! that's the sound I was after.
This is a fantastic lesson dude! Feel like I struck gold here.
Great lesson. Thank you.
The legend himself. This guy is the best, hands down.
edit: I can't spell
Trapp's the best.
Love Guthrie's playing, respect his abilities, but you need to check out Josh Smith.
He sure is. Anyone who thinks any different have not heard him play some of his live shows
so smooth and spot on ! I agree ! love Guthrie !
@@Stringprodigy No what ? who are you ? No prodigy that’s for sure !! you could just move along if you have nothing good to say
