What an inspiring journey. It shows what you can achieve when you put the effort into it and just keep trying. Welcome to Germany and we're very lucky to have people like you living and working here. Such a pleasant and optimistic nature...
Love you my friend!
My husband is a self-taught developer. We are moving to Germany in October where he will also be doing some training but is getting a good salary. There were actually 3 companies who offered him a job.
As a native Hungarian I really enjoyed watching this video and thanks for sharing your story. I hope you had a good time in Budapest. I also have to admire your braveness moving there without knowing the local language. I've been living in Ireland for over 9 years now and moving to Frankfurt in May. Your videos are extremely helpful, well detailed and the content is much much appreciated! Keep up the great work, it really makes a difference for a lot of people.
Ok so, I am an Indian student who'll start her studies in Germany this year. I am in the same position as you were. I want to live a life true to myself and here in India I won't be able to. I found your video when I was searching for understanding the Anmeldung process and found so much more! I thank you for sharing your journey! I know the journey is going to be hard.... But seeing you both together, happy gives me hope... Maybe someday things will be good ...
Wow! I’m from Guatemala too. My mom unfortunately made the decision to bring me here to the US illegally. I’m 18, and Fortunate to have a work permit. I’m also into software engineering/development and have been self taught. This was so inspiring. I plan to leave this country for a country in Europe like Germany
I am an aeronautical engineering student in Argentina, unfortunately the area I want to work in does not exist here. There are several options in others countries being Germany one of them, I am already studying German and I am about to start my Italian citizenship. Incredible story Jen congratulations and thanks for sharing your story.
I have read a lot of stupid tings on linkedin about false storys, but here is example how somebody succeed by right attitude and will. Great job! My professor once said, in your life you can lose many times, but the point is to acquire needed knowledge and you will always earn things back, that is something that nobody can’t take a way from you! BR., all the best!
Thank you for sharing your story. I am from Argentina and I have hemophilia. Here the situation to get the medication is very complicated and frustrating, I know that there are better treatments in Europe. That's why this year I decided to study programming on my own to be able to travel and with a little luck stay and live in Germany. I hope that in a few years I can make my video sharing my story as well. I send you a hug
First of all I want to thank you for all the work that you put in your content here on UA-cam. Thanks a lot. I am a new subscriber but I have already shared a ton of your videos with my expat friends who live here in Germany. Some I shared for your ideas and some just for the fun. Over the years I have found some very good friends here in expats. People from Greece, Syria, Tunisia, United States, Ireland. However, only since I have met those persons I have become fully appreciative of the life that I am living in Germany. And by no means am I either wealthy or privileged in the common meaning and never have I been. But I feel very very privileged that I was born in this country and that I can live here.🙏🙏🙏
Amazing, so glad you made it, Jen! Thanks both for this video! An edit: what I liked a lot about this video is that Jen talked about the specific steps she took in great detail (as in, mentioning AIESEC, for instance). It's an incredible story, and I hope many others will find it inspirational ;)
What a experience! I am new in Germany and I think I needed to watch a video like this. Thanks for sharing your story! Now I feel more motivated to continue and look for I want for life 🌻
Hey, me and my wife were in the same boat. We were students on a scholarship in Budapest for 2 years and we came to Munich for another masters hoping to transition to a full-time job. The grind is still ongoing but looking at your journey reminds me of what lies hard if we keep persevering 😊 Congratulations on your journey
I can relate to Jen's story so much and going through the same in my life. I have been in two minds over taking a step back from where I am in life and moving to Germany for my masters. The constant back and forth of two voices in my head debating (not to worry, I'm perfectly sane) if I should bite the bullet and loss of pay for 2 years while I study in Germany vs coast through life where I am. Life is good here, compared to the struggle of early life and borderline poverty like what Jen described; but I know I will forever kick myself with the "what if". I think I needed this honest unbiased raw heart to heart from Jen. Submitted my application on uniassist couple of days ago (and still was unsure) but I think this cleared the fog. Life is for those who seize it. Also Yvonne's support throughout the video showed the rock she is in Jen's journey. You two are winners, always remember that. viele Gluck!
Man, I am in the exact spot at the moment , in India! I have a well paying job here. I got admitted for my MBA in Germany, and I'm having doubts about whether it is worth leaving comfort here, and taking a loan to do an MBA in Germany. Hope it turns out alright! What did you do, Ankur Dutta? Did you move to Germany?
I enjoyed hearing about your journey! Not giving up, taking risks, and what opportunities you can get seems very scary! You are a brave woman! Happy you and Yvonne found each other. Beautiful 💜
Thank you for sharing, Jen! It is wonderful to hear your story. I think you are both doing a fantastic job. I would not have made it to Germany as easily without your help. Thank you so much!
While traveling in Munich I feel upon your UA-cam video learning how to use the rail system, so thank. Love all your content, and the personal touch you and your partner display so much caring and support. More travelers from California should what these videos prior to visiting Germany, so helpful. Thank you.
Congratulations for achieving your dreams! I wish I saw your videos as I was struggling to find a job and be able to stay in Germany. I must say, keep up with this kind of excellent videos! I’m pretty sure you are helping many people and most important, they won’t feel alone in their struggles. De una chapina queer a otra chapina queer, muchas felicidades 🥳
I agree with Ana. You are a inspiration for me and I am old. You gave me hope to do it. I study 20 years ago Programming language (c, c++, lisp, assembly, JavaScript, html, php, CSS, VB, MySQL) but never had the opportunity to work. Now I forgot a lot and I am not updated. Good tip about the internship. Tia, muitas garcia por teus vídeos. Beijinhos de Portugal 😊
Wow, that's what I call hustling alright. You made it, but at the same time I can see why so many don't, and I don't blame them...The one percent that meets such success can only ever be one percent.
The song of Eminem: I got to know one person who moved to another country far away from where he used to live and this was the song who motivated him to do so. Must be „THE“ song for people to take the chance to emigrate.
Congratulations for being so brave and not giving up! ☺ P.s. I moved to Germany 2 months ago, but I lived near Hungary my whole life. And I was positively surprised how nice people in Germany are, at least superficially, because I hear quite often that they are cold I'd say that in my home country we have a different kind of warmness 😅
I've been watching some of your videos since I'm moving to Germany next month to work (I'm a Software Engineer too). I'm a Guatemalan and can relate to your journey, from the struggle to the great things that happened to you. In my case, it wasn't easy either, but I still feel very privileged and grateful for the small opportunities life gave me. Very inspiring video. Keep up with the great content!
Hello Otto, I'm also Guatemalan, could you tell me if do you have a degree of any university in Guatemala? did you study abroad? Or how did you get the job in Germany?
I just moved here in Germany and really struggling finding a job that I really wanted (and aligned with my previous career). This video motivated me to step back, reflect and plan to achieve that goal. Thank you so much :)
Thank you so much for sharing your story, struggle and strong willpower. Tomorrow is my interview for a job in Germany that might bring me to Germany to start a new life... I cried while listening to your story. Step back but then three steps forward... that was so meaningful and important for me to hear right now.
Thank you so much for sharing your journey! I think one of the most important take home messages is that sometimes one must "take a step back", be it financially or professionally, in order to then leap and be successful. Big fan out here! Sending you guys a warm hug from Portugal
Ahhhhhhhhhh so nice 😍 well done ......Everyone has a different story and Germany has been so good for so many people ..I first went to work on building sites back in 1982 when the the troubles where bad in Northern Ireland loved every minute of living a normal life. 🇩🇪🇮🇪☘
Very inspiring journey. I'm from Colombia and got a job in Berlin as a Android Developer so this journey is absolute inspiring for me. I wanted to asked you how you learned English so well, you speak like a native speaker with no accent at all. Thank you for sharing.
So inspirational! As a self taught developer (but from the 1970s), I understand your progression through jobs to get to where you want to be. It isn't always clear what's worth doing to improve your situation, and those decisions are very difficult. Thanks for sharing your story!
Thank you for sharing your experience. For me it was very touching but also inspiring. From my own experience I can only agree with you! Look for challenges and if there is an opportunity, take it!
What an inspiration this beautiful human being! I'm also trying very hard to find a place to work but it gets so hard sometimes to fight when you're all alone and don't have any family members and support. But this video gave me so much support! Thank you both! 😍🥰💓
In case this is helpful to anyone: I would add that studying in Germany is probably an easier way if you want to move here. Studying at public universities is free for international students (except in two states, the last time I checked). There are completely English-taught Master's in some subjects (economics is one) - of course, learning German is still recommended because you would have access to many more job opportunities. You get an 18-month job-searching residence permit after you graduate (I found a job that allows me to apply for the work permit after almost 18 months lol - it's been a difficult time for job seekers, and I also don't speak fluent German). If you don't want to do university, there are also vocational training (Ausbildung) and dual studies programs. Some programs may offer a German language learning component, but I am not sure how common these are.
that's so nice to know Jen is self taught developer! i'm also learning by myself and a few months ago I migrated to the IT sector of the company where I've been already working for years. that's my first experience and i hope someday i'll able to get a job in some other country (i'm from Fortaleza, Brazil)... thanks for sharing your experience!
I love this video! I first watched the video about Jen feeling free in Germany and klicked on the link. I also like you as a couple - your love for each other just shows!
I started watching your videos few months ago, really inspired by the story you've told us all here, I have very similar story like you, in fact, whenever I watch your videos, you actually remind me of myself, I live in Germany now as I am married to a lovely German wife and I came here from Pakistan which is not so much different than Guatemala. Guatemala and Pakistan have similar rules/govt type etc etc... As far as I've seen reviews of Guatemala from your videos. I have similar life story and I am able to actually interact better with your videos. " Simple Germany " has been one of my sources to increase knowledge about Germany and get a better grip here. Big love from Chemnitz and keep posting. :)
Thank you Jen for sharing your story. My 20 year old daughter is in her third year of university here in Toronto and her goal is to move to Germany after she finishes her degree. She speaks some basic German now and hopes to better her language skills before she moves there. At this time she is not sure what she will work at there, she has looked at teaching in an international school or working for a museum. She is not sure. Your video is very encouraging. We will be visiting Germany at the end of May, hopefully she can look into more while we are there
Beautiful and very relatable. This is the kind of stuff that inspires us (okay me) not to give up. Working on your goals and believing that your dreams will indeed come true. Loved the whole journey Jen when through!!!
Thanks for sharing this video. it was very helpful to me. I'm a junior developer with 2 years of professioanl experience and I'm moving to Germany next month. I've been looking for jobs that fit me but I haven't had any luck and I've been getting unmotivated but after seeing this and realising how long it took you to get your first job as a developer I know that I need to be more patient and eventually I'm gonna get my big break and enter the German job market and get my dream peaceful life. I really appreciate your videos and what you're doing for expats. keep doing what you're doing. lots of love from Iran
This is so cute you two. I have recently started subscribing you and was hoping for this video. I am a single father in process of moving to Germany with my one year old twin daughters. As I am gay too, this video brought me hope and tears. I am sending you both lots of love and best wishes. ❤❤
Phantastic advanture through determination , skill and hard work!! Congratulations! You can be seen as a role model to many other emigrants looking for a new life in a completely foreign country! Chapeau!♥
Super awesome and emotional video, I recently got a job in Germany from India as a Software Developer :) , your videos are really helpful. Thanks a lot for making great content.
😀 Very nice of you, guys, and I can already see you might get sick of reading it, but it can't get more truthful - it IS inspiring!! What's even more inspiring and I can honestly call it beautiful is that entirety of support Yvonne's had for you, every step of the way right to this evening's words of appreciation, love it!
Jen, Yvonne, thank you so much for this story!!! I really feel for Jen and can totally relate. Same story - I’m from Russia, since childhood dreamt of a better life, need an lgbt - friendly country, an English teacher and Germany 🇩🇪 is my ultimate goal. Thank you so much!! Super inspirational. Love you, ladies.
I've recently subscribed to your channel and can't stop waching it. Thank you very much for doing these videos. Very inspiring! My experience is actually close to yours, I'm a self-taught developer with psychology degree, but I did what you didn't, I moved to Russia and learned Russian programming language😂 although I have no regrets, because I met my husband here, but now at 38 I need to start all over again, learn another language and move to another country... was so frustrated... until I've found your channel! You reminded me how interesting and overwhelming that journey was! And it will be even more if I do it again!
So happy to hear your story and it is inspiring . This video motivates me for the search of Job and better life... Thanks a lot for sharing such an incredible story. Lots of love and best wishes for you both. Love from Bangalore
The more I watch your videos the more I know that it would be a great opportunity to meet with you ladies, I love how vulnerable and honest you were, Jen. Thank you for being an inspiration. You ladies rock!
I love watching your videos... This is so inspiring because I have been dreaming of moving in Germany and I have been sending job applications too...Thank you for making quality videos
Todays' video made my eyes pipi more... _...smoothly_

I loved your story! Thank you for sharing your journey. It was so informative and inspiring.
Wow! Da hast du ja viel erlebt in deinen jungen Jahren. Kannst stolz auf dich sein. Ah, und Glückwunsch zur Hochzeit 💒.
We will be visiting Germany at the end of May, hopefully she can look into more while we are there
Hope you enjoy your trip to Germany and are able to better to prepare for her studies 😊
Thank for sharing your story💜
Beautiful and very relatable. This is the kind of stuff that inspires us (okay me) not to give up. Working on your goals and believing that your dreams will indeed come true. Loved the whole journey Jen when through!!!
