It makes one long to return to simpler times when Putin was making headlines for picking out matching outfits to wear in photo ops with George W. Bush.
Saginaw, Michigan was a number one country hit for Lefty Frizzell in 1964, and I really like this version done by Springwood Country. I believe Wes is from Leicestershire, but I suppose that's not a million miles away from South Yorkshire. Since you found that album of his I've managed to get hold of all of his recordings available on vinyl. I do like his whole Tex-Mex direction is music went in.
Wow massively jealous you have those three Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan albums on vinyl John. They are proper grails for me, especially the first two I got all CDs on release and love them - Sad loss. Let England Shake is a favourite and really enjoying the Demos. Demis Roussos is my guilty pleasure...Looking forward to the Cossack dancing Hedley...
The North Country drop reminded me of that Wes McGhee record we both have, Hedley. I wonder if he was from the Doncaster/Sheffield area? Nice discussion chaps. I really need to listen to those Lanegan/Campbell records.
I saw Lanegan twice. Amazing. I guess some would frown upon PJ's plagiarism whereas to me and my sampling culture it's genius. I'll be doing 'competition' soon. New Vinyl Scavenger is done. They just need sound level double checking and burning. Loved the gentle beat combo of North Country. Living and having been shopping in Milton Keynes many times I cannot go there without thinking of him on roller skates terrorising the shoppers in some kind of zombie apocalypse alternative universe.
