You managed to catch everything I love about a rain storm. City lights on a wet rainy road , rain coming down in sheets , a little hail for the intensity and rain bubbles dancing on cars , pavement and anything it touches. Things like umbrellas and people hurrying across roads , trees being blown around all these kinds of things make my heart dance. Thank you for that.
I also love storms. there is danger but also a fascination seeing Mother Nature at work. I will say being car owner and seeing the damage that hail can do, I hope to never b caught in a hailstorm.
I'm from kansas, I know all about tornadoes and storms.. But I love watching brisbane australia storms. There just somthing about them that are so peaceful. Thanks for the video
In Highgate Hill it seemed even worse than this. You honestly could not see the houses across the road. The window on our back door got smashed by hail and there was glass 15m down the hall. We had about 100 glass louvres broken (big old Queenslander). Pretty intense half an hour.
This hail storm was the result of 2 Supercell Thunder storms merging into one, the wind speeds were clocked at 142Kph .or 88 MPH.it gained strength from Archerfield Aerodrome & headed directly north every house in every Suburb to the Brisbane City had all their south side windows smashed to pieces, this storm was one of the most costly hail storms in Brisbane's history, it was classed as a Micoburst storm, thousands of cars in car yards in Moorooka were all a total write off not to mention 10's of thousands of roof damages estimated insurance bill was well over 1 Billion Dollars
I was walking around in this that day. Saw a van that had to park right in front of a store, on the footpath because of the hail... Later, cars driving around with fully smashed windscreens and dints everywhere on their cars. Flooding in streets as well. I think I have a video too actually...
Memories...my kiddies n I were down at Nudgee beach when this struck...my car wouldn't start cuz key got wet in my pocket when walking in the shallows...we sheltered in someone's car port n caught a cab home post storm. Love Qld
This hailstorm obliterated my sisters unit. She had to stay with a neighbour for a week while we cleaned every surface of her place. There were shards of glass from one window that were 15-20m long and which had travelled from one side of the unit to the other, basically horizontally and then slid down behind the couch! A total distance of about 8m. The window they came from was the same height as the couch, so it had to fly with some serious speed to get behind the couch like it did. There was also glass embedded in walls and every single window was smashed! The blinds were write offs and it was an absolute mess! It was 6 months before she got new windows and plywood was so hard to get my dad had to bring some from interstate! And he only got it because his mate who owned a hardware shop managed to source it for us. Everywhere else in the area was sold out as alot of people were doing the same thing! At the time my sister was not home (thank god!) There was no corned of her unit that would have been safe.
Just the usual severe storm warning which we are fairly used to, but nothing that prepared anybody for the size of the hail or the wind that came with this one.
QLD gets storm warnings every week in summer. We just sort of carry on and then go "oh here it is". They come and go so fast with no build up. This one had clear blue skies behind it.
No, it was afternoon around 4:45pm on a Thursday. They were saying that the storm was about 20 minutes away so I left the building to head home straight away thinking I had time, but it hit about 2 minutes after I had left the building.
I remember a time when outback vehicles would have a steel mesh guard in front of their windscreens... and kangaroo bars ( bull bars)..... as you didn't need to loose a windscreen 400 miles from a new one
LOL I was on my way home from work. The weather bureau said the storm was about 20 minutes away, which would have given me time, but in reality, it was probably 2 minutes away. I was luckily undercover and was about to wait for it to pass.
Storm are very dangerous like thunder and lightning and hail in the city and where you live. Sometimes you need fine a shelter to been safe. So you will not get hurt .And very hard windy. Thing will fly to. Been very careful. If you are out there. Or stay in your 🚗.
Larger than golf balls. It smashed windows, put huge dents in the panels of the high rise opposite where I work not to mention the damage it did to cars. I still see some cars driving around that have never been repaired with the hail marks on them.
once the wind started coming so much hail rolled and smashed on the ground I got hailstorm like 3 TIMES and the first one was in 2013 we had a tornado warning in madison wisconsin second: Quad state tornado Baseball sized hail third: june 13 severe thunderstorm warning fourth: june 15 tornado warning once coming back from Chicago we were in tomah Wisconsin I saw a funnel it started hailing pea sized hail then to quarter green skies came loud thunder so bright lighting we had a windstorm heavy rain that was strong enough to crack our windows i even got so many tornadoes we got so many watches warnings in 2022 2021 2020
Hi +Ellie Beck I hope you weren't affected by this storm. I work for a TV company and we're making a documentary series about extreme weather that is broadcast around the world. We are covering the story of the Brisbane Hail Storm in 2014 - can we use some of your footage, with a credit to you of course? Can we chat over email? I am on samanthaappleby@titlerole.co.uk thank you! Sam

Awesome video & Wow! What a hail storm. Never seen anything like it...
I am so jealous so wish new Zealand had storms like this. I love storms 😶😍
Don;t complain, you have the earthquakes
What about the hail storm in Timaru last year?
I remember the hailstorm of the Tri State (KY IN OH) it dropped golf ball sized hail in Cincinnati for about 20 mins straight

Was there a warning on the storm? The way everyone. WS just driving

There was no warning issued by the Brisbane BOM. If my memory is correct this was Saturday morning.

Impressive footage !
Wow. I never see this storm in another country before
Seems like quite a storm!
100,000 cars were damaged in this storm and it took the automotive repair industry 3+ years to repair them all
Reminiscent of the 10-5-2010 Phoenix, AZ storms.
When filming a hailstorm, you should occasionally capture the roof above you that is protecting you from the hail.
Crazy!!! Great video.
One of these happened to me, my mom's back car window is one door shut away from completely shattering
I remember living there, every day at 4 pm a storm would roll in. Crazy
I want to move there.

That wasn't a 'severe storm'. It was a microburst.
Oh really. www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2014/nov/28/brisbane-stunned-by-severe-storm-no-time-to-evacuate-no-warning

Amazing how hail just comes out of nowhere...so when your inside at work your car get destroyed.
How big were they?

That's big enough.
Basket ball size !!!!
That looks more like a Derecho or a micro-burst.
Alhamdulillah..di Indonesia gak ada hujan es batu kyk gini..
Seeing this video 7 years later … perhaps this is a premonition of a weather report for next week. 😳

Absolutely true,it shows the hailstones must be 4 inches or bigger
Wind wind wind......hail
That wasn't a hail storm. That was wild Aussie kids throwing iceballs from the freezer out of their hotel balconies.

if there was no place with a roof to park i wouldve just parked behind the van or just squeeze in somewhere
Tennis anyone?
right?!
Park under awnings during hail. It's not like a cop is going to risk his life to ticket you.
You can be proud of this one, Brisbane. That's one hell of a storm.
