How dare yall accurately break down a movie I grew up watching lol I grew up with all girls and was forced to watch this what feels like everyday of my formative years. Watched it recently and realized where I got some of my taste in music for sure a love for the man himself Patrick Swayze
I think the abortion storyline is to show Baby is growing beyond being her dad’s daughter and becoming her own person. He seems to be opposed to abortion and here she is lying to him (by omission) and getting the money for her new friend. He trusts her and doesn’t think that she would possibly do anything he would view as shameful. Later on he discovers this and she just owns it. It was probably also edgier by 1980’s standards than it is today. Roe v. Wade wouldn’t happen for another 10 years in the storyline. I think it also hits differently for women and the movie is definitely written from and for the female perspective.
