For rock shox MoCo I take the motion control damper and throw it in the bin, only keeping the seal head part I install a pull bleed valve and a air side air cap on top of the fork leg then I take a 5cmx 20.63mm OD spring and 5.35 rate and pop it in the Moco seal head blocked by the bleed valve, fill oil normal Moco level and bleed the newly created IFP. Adjust compression with air. 8 to 44 psi...
The smaller you make things, the more difficult it becomes. The price of the material is not a priority. Decisive but the precision of the production is simply higher for small parts.
Despite the comments above, i totally agree with you, i think the cost of everything (include the bikes) have gone out of control... Don't get me wrong, i love mountain biking and i love to upgrade my bike and to work on them, but i refuse to pay more for a mountainbike than what i paid for my 2022 motorcycle, and as you said, even the break pads cost around 4 times what a car break pads cost, i know that a lot of people find ways to justify these prices but i just can't. Off course i keep buying stuff, and i keep spending my money on it but i think it's just absurd.
Messing with oil viscosity is a lot easier and less messy. It's just way easier mixing oil to get different flow. Especially if you don't have a shock Dyno
I used to mad scientist different oils together. Then I realized that the heavier oil actually settles lower and causes the fork to behave strangely until it gets mixed back together during a bunch of compression cycles.
Excellent vid Anna, I love the tech behind suspension. Personally When I upgrade my shock, I buy from a supplier (TFTuned) who tuned it to my bike and my weight so my settings are generally in the middle, giving me more adjustments both ways. Forks not so much but as I'm light, I'm getting more to one end of the adjustment, but with the new fox damper I doubt a custom tune would be needed.
More like this please; be good to compare the ride performance and tune ability of say Fox 2021, 2022 and the 2025 models...each of those years I believe Fox upgraded their 34mm Fork. Is it worth upgrading to say a 2025 model if you have a previous generation fork...or all just hype?
I think it matters more if you are either end of the weight scale. I am a big unit and got a shock wiz. made a good improvement with the adjustment. Then got a custom tune from shock graft and made a massive difference as much as the shcokwiz again.
I am in a bit of a suspension dilemma. I replaced my low end fork on my new epic evo with a fit4 factory 34... now the rear end feels like my tire is 10 psi low.
I don’t think most people need all the tuning but they can sell you a fork or shock that an elite racer uses and charge big money for it!🤷🏼♂️ end of the day no one forces you to spend big money on stuff but the servicing I find a bit of a joke, cost and especially time between servicing! I’ve noticed all your videos that feature suspension companies try and put the fear of god into everyone about servicing your fork and shock or your bike will explode!😏
and paying 300 to 350 for a tune is ridiculous..pay 300 more and you can get a new shock..this is coming from a single parent who absolutely loves to shred..

the huge problem with the bike industry is the cost of everything..when i can get car brake pads cheaper than my mountain bike,theres a problem

I resent every penny I spend on my stupid car. For My bike, for some reason it’s fun. I’ve no idea why 😂

@@SnootchieBootchies27 I make sure it's the same brand and additives so they don't separate. I wouldn't go mixing maxima with finishline for instance

I use to play around with oil weights to get the best "chewn", it's funny that doesn't seem to be something that people do anymore.

$400-$1600 for a bicycle shock is already ridiculous.
The new shock will have a 'middle of the road' tune though, so if someone thinks they need a custom tune buying a new shock won't help them.
