In the Jackson trilogy, the thing that always impresses me is the supporting cast. Sean Bean, Cate Blanchett, Bernard Hill, John Noble, and Karl Urban, all of whom OWNED their roles, to the point where I couldn't imagine them being anyone else now.
And what these hacks don’t realize is Christopher Tolkien hated the Jackson adaptation and his father would not have approved either….. so what would they think of this abomination? At least Jackson approached it with absolute respect, Amazon thinks they knew better!

What this show also desperately lacks is grace, elegance and grandeur. The entire vibe of the show is like you expected a somewhat accurate historical costume and instead you got a plastic Mardi Gras dress from wish.
They won't be as good as tolkein so that isn't a surprise. Its better then a lot of stuff on TV. The true place all this hatred needs to be directed is the Tolkien estate Amazon are doing what they want because they paid to get that .

This series baffles me. They justify this "reimagining" of Galadriel based on a couple of lines in the appendices referring to her having the "eye of a commander" and citing her role in leading the elf rebellion... which implies they've mined every word they can to make this re-characterisation work and happily quote those lines to you if you take issue with how she's presented. But then they present a story that has to be quite a ways through the Second Age for the living Numoreons we see to have a part to play. So, where is Celeborn? Where is Celebrian? Where is Galadriel's pilgrimage to the Blue Mountains? Why is Elrond a diplomat rather than the one being discharged to lead armies against the threat of Sauron (like he does in the lore)? Why isn't Galadriel a wife and mother? Why does she never use magic or sorcery? Why is she portrayed as youthful and petulant when she's one of the oldest and wisest living elves? They obsess over these minor lines that justify their character vandalism and ignore every other important piece of world-building and history that should be important to fleshing out this era. It's bizarre and as I say, baffling. They had this amazing, interesting, unmined character that was a deadly mix of influence, sorcery, and near goddess-like presence and turned her into... Jamie Lannister without the charm. Why? EDIT: I know why. The same reason Netflix did what they did to Yennefer in Wither Season 2 and what Disney did to Obi-Wan in his own show. They need a manufactured arc. They need boring, basic struggle to push the character back and put off letting her be the character she's supposed to be because they are incapable of writing interesting stories and obstacles for THAT character. So they nerf them, generify them, and make them sad and bitter shells of themselves so the only arc they need is to eventually learn not to be so depressed or useless or conceited any more. Or discover they were right all along and every other character just needs to recognise the greatness. Cuz that's easy to write, but oh so boring to watch. Galadriel won't be proper Galadriel until the final scene in the final episode in the final season. She'll turn the camera and glow, then, cut to black. Yay. That's... `not satisfying.

Well put. It has no POINT. Nothing to say. Tolkien, on the other had, had a ton to say about the fall of the west during and after WWI, and the historical and literary background to connect his ideas with the great tradition. All the writers on this fiasco have to say is, when am I getting paid.
OP, ultimately this is a business and with all these competing streaming services there's pressure to churn out quantity not quality. Additionally, Amazon has so many profitable businesses that they might be borrowing a page (or the whole book) from Warner, Disney, etc... and intentionally creating an overpriced 'flop' to write-off expenses.
I always imagined Galadriel as stunningly beautiful and almost ethereal. Massively powerful, but perfectly controlled. Cate Blanchett pulled that off as close as any human woman could. This actress, whose name I can’t be bothered to look up, doesn’t come close.

The warg looked like an over sized chihuahua with rabies. Somehow all the elves absolutely suck at fighting except Guyladriel. The EOC and his entire squad get captured by orcs. These are elves that presumably are incredibly old by human standards and have at least been in this one spot for 75 years and have been fighting far far longer. So how did they get captured and why did they have such difficulty with one warg? Edit: Holy shit Guyladriel on the horse was terrifying! Thay smile was so fake and disturbing looking.

@@BartAllen Gandalf didn't encounter just one he encountered a warg/goblin raid made up of hundreds of them. Even for Gandalf those are really long odds. This was at least three elf warriors and they couldn't kill one warg. They even had it trapped at one point. Now they weren't properly armed but a pickaxe, axe or hand hoe to the head would easily dispatch it.

And they’ve censored all of her actions that could actually give heartfelt character development…like being taken by the words of Feanor, or being among his host during the kinslaying of the Teleri, or the hard lesson learned by the burning of the ships after Feanor marooned them. Clarification: She was likely among Fingolfin’s second host and didn’t participate, but was there.

I can't get over how little elvish is in this show, anytime Elves talk to one another it should be in elvish. Makes no sense why they'd speak with each other in common tongue. Also the fact that Guyladriel has a chip on her shoulder makes it VERY hard for me to believe that she'd ever act as she does in the books.
Yes! The appendixes have all the language rules, why is there no Elvish or Dwarvish? That could add so much to Middle Earth (though they still need much more to improve).

In the Hobbit films elves speak English to each other also. It's just easier for audiences also. And I'm pretty sure elves spoke mostly English in the lotr films except snippets
"Scourge of the orcs?" didn't they spend last two episodes establishing they haven't seen an orc for the past 1K+ years since the fall of Margoth (or have you) and she only took up the "fight" after her brother's death, which means when the orcs disappear .... so how is she "Scourge of the orcs" when there are no orcs for her to scourge?
The probably thought "Return of the Orcs" would sound a lot like "Return of the King", and so went with something they thought sounded middle earthy like "courage". They're probably saving "Return of the ..." for a later season.
The script writers got confused. She’s going to kill hundreds with ease making her the scourge of the orcs but they just gave her that name from the beginning to let you know she’s a bad ass without thinking deeply about it like you have 😂 just what this show is.

What the OP is saying is that for her to be considered the bane of the Orcs, she'd have to find and kill them. But according to the show orcs aren't anywhere to be found.

One thing that broke the little immersion I had left was when Gal read the parchment with writing that ran round in circles around the evil symbol. She read it swiftly from left to right without turning the parchment at all. So she can read upside down? At all angles I guess. And this is the language of Mordor. Just something small but it hit me hard.
I'm sure that Amazon will probably have Galadrial running into Ungoliant at some point in the series, and she'll use her super-duper, flying magical, unicorn elf powers, to slay the beast! It'll show a couple hundred white cis-males getting completely slaughtered by Ungoliant, and than Galadrial will come in and take care of business with a lightsaber made from one of Silmarills, that Ulmo gave her when she jumped ship outside of Valinor. I appreciate that they tried to lighten Galadrambo up a bit this week. Heck, she smiled on a horse. But, it was kind of a crazy/creepy smile. I don't know how else to explain it. Like when you see someone trying to fake being happy when inside they're ready to scream or something

I actually thought this episode was worst of them all. The warg looked soooo bad. Did you catch when Elendil said "I'm instructed to take you to MY BETTERS" and we all noticed who he was talking about. Numenorian guards are dunces who can't keep track of their charges. Can't see when she's given a dagger and Elendil doesn't notice his whole knife is gone. That's like if you hugged a cop and took their gun and thinking they wouldn't notice. The horse riding scene was soooo unnecessary, way too long, and so cringe.
Amazon diversified hobbits by giving them dirty faces.. unkept clothes.. and making them homeless.. They went from authors of books to trying to read stick figures! Now halflings are leaving hobbits in the streets!
My verdict is that it looks great on screen but that the story and script are the weakness. The main character Galadriel is also very irritating, and rude and aggressive with everyone she meets. Also, there is no humour at all. The story is very slow and it feels that they pad out the screen time as though they are trying to drag out the story. There is also no suspense in the story.
It has to be slow, they wanna make 4 or 5 seasons of what is essentially 80 pages of lore for the seccond age, and they dont even have the rights of those 80 pages, they only have the rights on the appendancies which only briefly describe the order of events. So caption that how hollow this thing will be, its like the last season of game of thrones only this whole series is like that from start to finish
Exactly. We only criticise the weak artistic concept. Like with others(Trek, Wars) before. Idgaf if an elf is black or green, but a) Tolkien set the rules for his world, and b) the writers now do not have the ability to communicate the errors well. A good writer could come up with a black female dwarf, or an elf. But it needs big exposition about why that is the case. Because dwarves have beards, all of them, and if not they are probably hobbits. And elves have fair skin etc bla bla bla. Give it some exposition that is plausible and don't break immersion like that and act like it is normal. Because it is not in that context. That is not racist, that is simply the reality of middle earth like Tolkien did it....

Elves used to go to Numenor in the begining. That's how that white tree became a symbol of the island. That routine faded when the shadow spread into the hearts of the numenorians, who began envying the eldar immortality. That change took time.
I am still waiting for those male Elves to break out with "Never Gonna Give You Up" because hair looks the same like the marketing for those insurance ads with Rick Astley. Also, I do believe that Tolkien did write that after the split between the fathful and black Numenoreans Elves stopped being welcome in Numenor.

They are setting up Elrond to have a gay inter species love triangle with Durin. Meanwhile, GUYladriel will have a Inter species lesbo love triangle with Miriel.
How would we know if Celebrian is born or not? It’s 3,400 years of time squashed together haphazardly. Miriel comes in at the end of the age, Celebrian should be an adult by then easily. Okay, quick google search says she was born in 300SA while Elrond was born 532FA so he’s a little over 300 years older than her and by Miriel’s time both are over 3,000 years old.

The racism towards the elves is the most confusing to me. I’m no Tolkien expert, but I don’t recall ever coming across that level of tension between the races. Mistrust, especially when they ventured outside of their usual territory, was shown… but throwing around slurs? Felt like I got transported to Dragon Age. I’ve admittedly only read Fellowship and Two Towers so far, but I got the feeling that elves were treated with mystery vs hatred?

I honestly don't know WHY we are following the elf. Even if he escapes out of the pit, what is he going to do? Warn people orcs are there? A whole fucking village knows that already and would be spreading the word. If you cut out his entire story from the show and have him appear later in the series, we wouldn't be any worse off with him just saying "I was watching this village, got captured by orcs and wound up here". It feels like an extremely minor character we for some reason are spending all this time on.
I just got an email from Amazon stating that my review wouldn’t be posted because I violated the guidelines and included inappropriate content. All I did was say I didn’t like the portrayal of Galadriel. I was careful to not say anything hurtful and didn’t mention any other aspect of the show, just Galadriel. I even gave it 2 stars not 1 and they wouldn’t post it. When I clicked the resubmit button it took me to a page that had a dog on it and it said oops something went wrong. I screen shot the email but don’t know where to post it

Most shows are 8-10 eps long now. You generally don't get shows that are 20 eps a season just because it's too big a risk. A ten hour long season is pretty long in this day and age.

You know if you're a racist or not, they don't get to label you as one just for disliking their bullshit show. They're the ones inserting dark skinned people where they shouldn't exist according to the lore just to serve their political agenda. Disagreeing with that doesn't automatically make you racist. Elves/dwarves/hobbits are not human, they have been solidly established as having pale skin for actual lore reasons. It doesn't matter if black people can't identify with elves because elves aren't even human, white people can't identify with them either. They are a different species that we can only see from the outside perspective of a human because that's what we are. The colour of our human skin shouldn't have any bearing on how elves are represented.

If only Peter Jackson had been able to do a 3 part 'LOTR: The Fall of Numenor' movie trilogy instead of 'The Hobbit' That and the story of Luthien and Beren could have been translated into a great movie series if done faithfully. Turin's story would make a good tv adaptation too.

I really hope less people watched this episode or else it doesn't really matter if they make an awful show or not. The viewers are just giving them the green light to keep doing what they are doing. I don't have faith that all the people giving it the 1 or 2 star reviews are tuning out though so... Amazon win in the end anyway and more awful shows will be produced.

I don't think I'm gonna make it through this episode. Just got to the part where Galadriel is introduced to the queen regent, and Galadriel is officially the most obnoxious character I've seen in a TV show all year. It's genuinely fascinating how well-executed their character assassination is.

The casting is terrible: the main character has gone from 'Galadriel' to 'Guyladriel' and the Hobbits (NOT Harfoots) look like a random bunch of homeless people living under a freeway somewhere. Everything just looks all wrong compared to the Peter Jackson version of the Trilogy and Amazon should just cancel this dumpster fire and move on.
It's so funny to me when I talk to people about about this show and house of the dragon. Everyone is so bored with the show or are very off put by it feeling nothing like the lord of the Rings, and how hyped they are about house of the dragon. I love HBO for releasing it at the same time just to really put this show in its place lol
One problem with nowadays tv series is that they lack talented directors and screenwriters to name some. The Untouchables, X-FILES, Highlanders, Miami Vice, Dallas, were made to be best.
You can absolutely like the show but there’s no denying that it is objectively ‘bad’ against many metrics of traditional storytelling. My husband and I both loved the last matrix movie while recognizing the fact that it’s probably one of the worst movies ever made. I we won’t be watching it over and over but for some reason we really enjoyed it. It was however terrible when I would never recommend it to anybody else. This show is not well written. It is marginally acted, and that’s being generous, it completely relies on its visuals to carry it through. However even the visuals are incredibly disjointed and there is not a unifying theme throughout the show. One minute you’re seeing Matrix bullet time fight scenes and the other 400 minutes of aerial drone shots of us places we all wish we probably lived . The armor and the costumes look absolutely terrible though. Very low budget and I can’t even imagine doing that poor a job on the show that’s this expensive. There are better and more realistic costumes and armor from 20 year old episodes of Stargate the television show. I am not kidding, we are just re-watching this and then one of the episodes they go to a medieval planet and it looks 10 times better than this TV show. Buy visual effects standards that show was ancient and it blows away The Rings of Power ( an incredibly stupid name for the show by the way) Incidentally Stargate has one of the best female characters to ever make it on any screen of any size. Samantha Carter lived through 12 seasons of Stargate becoming one of the most beloved and enduring examples of a well written well earned female character, showing strength intelligence and compassion while always remaining distinctly a woman.

I cried a little inside when Bill Gates purchased all the farm land in middle earth. Seeing women and children starving to death really messed me up. So moving.
Really ridiculous because orcs literally stand ZERO CHANCES against even a Sylvan elf. The only orc I can recall killing an elf was the possible evil Maiar that looked like a giant orc killing Denethor on the marches outside of Doriaith in the VERY, VERY, VERY early first age. Then Elu Thingol killed it with a, like 4 hour duel. And Thingol was a BOSS!!!
Instead of this story developing their characters arcs all I see is an absolute paralysis of the show. Everything in the show is sacrificed to put Galadriel on a pedestal to see after 3 episodes nothing has moved forward. This is what happens when you stomp on every charactors story just to highlight ONE CHARACTER. They can't even create a good fantasy, muchless Tolkien's works which is a masterpiece. House of the Dragon is vastly superior because it sticks to the GOT formula which has been proven to work. I retired from Hollywood a while ago and during my time Hollywood could still put together a decent fantasy show or movie. Now we have a bunch of woke idiots producing garbage.

There's no way Halbrand is Sauron. What he is is that kid's dad, that kid from the Southlands. As he said, his ancestor made a pact with Morgoth, and now his son's blood activates the Morgul blade looking thing that we saw last episode because they're both bound to Morgoth and Sauron now. Halbrand will get back to the Southlands, become the king again, but eventually be forced or convinced to join Sauron, due to the pact most likely, then will become one of the Nazgul. He's a king of men, one of the Nine. That all seems really telegraphed so far. Like Halbrand isn't a bad guy but he has this dark side to him that can be exploited - plus that pact he mentioned.
Nori's dad, aka Hobo Baggins, couldn't even get anyone to help him with his work, which resulted in his injury. The others were just sitting around nearby while he did the work by himself and wondered where his daughter was, since apparently she's the only one that's remotely helpful. Either that's just another example of the Harfoots being horribly callous to each other, or they were deliberately not helping him. I dunno, maybe they all wanted an excuse to leave him behind for some reason. lol. Were they sore about him winning all their quiz nights or whatnot?
I used to play D&D. Some DMs would say, "bring your own character." and then we would spend hours just trying to bring the party together. That is what this feels like.
Took 2 hours to roll up a level 1 fighter because...pizza and store runs, and getting snacks, and waiting for that one person who's always late, and the nostalgic jokes that take everyone down various side paths of amusement. That is more fun than watching 3 episodes of RoP.
Lord of the rings inspired so much hope in both the books and movies..the only hope I find in Power is a hope of it ending. Tolkien promoted fellowship and unity. Amazon brings anger and contention. "For Tolkien!!"

I found it a little bit boring, and unfair to Gimli who got scorned every time he wanted to speak up! however the scene of the elves arriving to Helms Deep, eventough wasn't cannon, was truly a peace of cinematographic art. However, I think the best storyline in the Two Towers was the internal battle Gollum went through to, to at least temporarily, free himself form the evilness of the ring.
I don't necessarily have a problem with the black dwarf, but I do have a problem with her not having a beard. She would have been shunned, disgraced, and thrown head first out of Moria! No questions asked! I'm thinking that Lord Durin must have kept her locked up in that lovely chamber they were in. Hiding her hideous shaved face from the other Dwarves. If you read the Fall of Númenor or listen the audio book online wich is about one hour long; you will see that at the beginning the elves and Númenóreans had a very close relationship, Nimloth seed was brought by the elves of Tol Eressëa. Also, Tolkien wrote that as Tar Palantir grew completely obsessed with his mortality he lack himself in the tower Tir Minastir. There was great rebellion amongst Númenóreans who were hostile to the elves and the ban of the Valar. I suppose that during the time he secluded himself away from his people somebody must have took charge of the ruling and government of the island affairs. So the idea of Miriel as Queen Regent during that time wasn't as absurd since she was the rightful heir to he throne, and while her father lived, she must have been respected.

I’ve got to track down a book of Tolkien’s letters if there is one. Currently re-reading the Silmarillion after a gap of over 10 years. Probably the Unfinished Tales next.
While I fully agree about your ongoing assessment about Rings of power, I still don''t get your approval for House of Dragons that has it's own daunting flaws and it's moments of cringy wokeness. Your view of the 2 shows at times contradict each other, almost as if you're choosing to close an eye for certain issues with HOD.
To me it seems they go out of their way to whine about House of the Dragon. Especially when you have a narcissist like Shad on. Haven't seen ROP so I can't say one is better than the other. This series baffles me. They justify this "reimagining" of Galadriel based on a couple of lines in the appendices referring to her having the "eye of a commander" and citing her role in leading the elf rebellion... which implies they've mined every word they can to make this re-characterisation work and happily quote those lines to you if you take issue with how she's presented.
But then they present a story that has to be quite a ways through the Second Age for the living Numoreons we see to have a part to play. So, where is Celeborn? Where is Celebrian? Where is Galadriel's pilgrimage to the Blue Mountains? Why is Elrond a diplomat rather than the one being discharged to lead armies against the threat of Sauron (like he does in the lore)?
Why isn't Galadriel a wife and mother? Why does she never use magic or sorcery? Why is she portrayed as youthful and petulant when she's one of the oldest and wisest living elves? They obsess over these minor lines that justify their character vandalism and ignore every other important piece of world-building and history that should be important to fleshing out this era.
It's bizarre and as I say, baffling. They had this amazing, interesting, unmined character that was a deadly mix of influence, sorcery, and near goddess-like presence and turned her into... Jamie Lannister without the charm.
Why?
EDIT: I know why. The same reason Netflix did what they did to Yennefer in Wither Season 2 and what Disney did to Obi-Wan in his own show. They need a manufactured arc. They need boring, basic struggle to push the character back and put off letting her be the character she's supposed to be because they are incapable of writing interesting stories and obstacles for THAT character. So they nerf them, generify them, and make them sad and bitter shells of themselves so the only arc they need is to eventually learn not to be so depressed or useless or conceited any more. Or discover they were right all along and every other character just needs to recognise the greatness.

Somehow all the elves absolutely suck at fighting except Guyladriel. The EOC and his entire squad get captured by orcs. These are elves that presumably are incredibly old by human standards and have at least been in this one spot for 75 years and have been fighting far far longer. So how did they get captured and why did they have such difficulty with one warg?

This was at least three elf warriors and they couldn't kill one warg. They even had it trapped at one point. Now they weren't properly armed but a pickaxe, axe or hand hoe to the head would easily dispatch it.

I can't get over how little elvish is in this show, anytime Elves talk to one another it should be in elvish. Makes no sense why they'd speak with each other in common tongue. Also the fact that Guyladriel has a chip on her shoulder makes it VERY hard for me to believe that she'd ever act as she does in the books.
Yes! The appendixes have all the language rules, why is there no Elvish or Dwarvish? That could add so much to Middle Earth (though they still need much more to improve).

The probably thought "Return of the Orcs" would sound a lot like "Return of the King", and so went with something they thought sounded middle earthy like "courage". They're probably saving "Return of the ..." for a later season.

The script writers got confused. She’s going to kill hundreds with ease making her the scourge of the orcs but they just gave her that name from the beginning to let you know she’s a bad ass without thinking deeply about it like you have 😂 just what this show is.

One thing that broke the little immersion I had left was when Gal read the parchment with writing that ran round in circles around the evil symbol. I actually thought this episode was worst of them all. The warg looked soooo bad. Did you catch when Elendil said "I'm instructed to take you to MY BETTERS" and we all noticed who he was talking about. Numenorian guards are dunces who can't keep track of their charges. Can't see when she's given a dagger and Elendil doesn't notice his whole knife is gone. That's like if you hugged a cop and took their gun and thinking they wouldn't notice. The horse riding scene was soooo unnecessary, way too long, and so cringe.

My verdict is that it looks great on screen but that the story and script are the weakness. The main character Galadriel is also very irritating, and rude and aggressive with everyone she meets. Also, there is no humour at all. The story is very slow and it feels that they pad out the screen time as though they are trying to drag out the story. There is also no suspense in the story.
It has to be slow, they wanna make 4 or 5 seasons of what is essentially 80 pages of lore for the seccond age, and they dont even have the rights of those 80 pages, they only have the rights on the appendancies which only briefly describe the order of events. So caption that how hollow this thing will be, its like the last season of game of thrones only this whole series is like that from start to finish

Idgaf if an elf is black or green, but a) Tolkien set the rules for his world, and b) the writers now do not have the ability to communicate the errors well.
A good writer could come up with a black female dwarf, or an elf. But it needs big exposition about why that is the case. Because dwarves have beards, all of them, and if not they are probably hobbits. And elves have fair skin etc bla bla bla.
Give it some exposition that is plausible and don't break immersion like that and act like it is normal. Because it is not in that context.

The racism towards the elves is the most confusing to me. I’m no Tolkien expert, but I don’t recall ever coming across that level of tension between the races.
Mistrust, especially when they ventured outside of their usual territory, was shown… but throwing around slurs? Felt like I got transported to Dragon Age.

I honestly don't know WHY we are following the elf. Even if he escapes out of the pit, what is he going to do? Warn people orcs are there? A whole fucking village knows that already and would be spreading the word. If you cut out his entire story from the show and have him appear later in the series, we wouldn't be any worse off with him just saying "I was watching this village, got captured by orcs and wound up here". It feels like an extremely minor character we for some reason are spending all this time on.
I just got an email from Amazon stating that my review wouldn’t be posted because I violated the guidelines and included inappropriate content. If only Peter Jackson had been able to do a 3 part 'LOTR: The Fall of Numenor' movie trilogy instead of 'The Hobbit' That and the story of Luthien and Beren could have been translated into a great movie series if done faithfully. Turin's story would make a good tv adaptation too.

The casting is terrible: the main character has gone from 'Galadriel' to 'Guyladriel' and the Hobbits (NOT Harfoots) look like a random bunch of homeless people living under a freeway somewhere. Everything just looks all wrong compared to the Peter Jackson version of the Trilogy and Amazon should just cancel this dumpster fire and move on.
It's so funny to me when I talk to people about about this show and house of the dragon. Everyone is so bored with the show or are very off put by it feeling nothing like the lord of the Rings, and how hyped they are about house of the dragon. I love HBO for releasing it at the same time just to really put this show in its place lol

You can absolutely like the show but there’s no denying that it is objectively ‘bad’ against many metrics of traditional storytelling.
My husband and I both loved the last matrix movie while recognizing the fact that it’s probably one of the worst movies ever made. I we won’t be watching it over and over but for some reason we really enjoyed it. It was however terrible when I would never recommend it to anybody else.
This show is not well written. It is marginally acted, and that’s being generous, it completely relies on its visuals to carry it through. However even the visuals are incredibly disjointed and there is not a unifying theme throughout the show. One minute you’re seeing Matrix bullet time fight scenes and the other 400 minutes of aerial drone shots of us places we all wish we probably lived .
The armor and the costumes look absolutely terrible though. Very low budget and I can’t even imagine doing that poor a job on the show that’s this expensive. There are better and more realistic costumes and armor from 20 year old episodes of Stargate the television show. I am not kidding, we are just re-watching this and then one of the episodes they go to a medieval planet and it looks 10 times better than this TV show. Buy visual effects standards that show was ancient and it blows away The Rings of Power ( an incredibly stupid name for the show by the way)
Incidentally Stargate has one of the best female characters to ever make it on any screen of any size. Samantha Carter lived through 12 seasons of Stargate becoming one of the most beloved and enduring examples of a well written well earned female character, showing strength intelligence and compassion while always remaining distinctly a woman.

Really ridiculous because orcs literally stand ZERO CHANCES against even a Sylvan elf. The only orc I can recall killing an elf was the possible evil Maiar that looked like a giant orc killing Denethor on the marches outside of Doriaith in the VERY, VERY, VERY early first age.
Then Elu Thingol killed it with a, like 4 hour duel. And Thingol was a BOSS!!!
Instead of this story developing their characters arcs all I see is an absolute paralysis of the show. Everything in the show is sacrificed to put Galadriel on a pedestal to see after 3 episodes nothing has moved forward. This is what happens when you stomp on every charactors story just to highlight ONE CHARACTER.
They can't even create a good fantasy, muchless Tolkien's works which is a masterpiece. House of the Dragon is vastly superior because it sticks to the GOT formula which has been proven to work.

There's no way Halbrand is Sauron. What he is is that kid's dad, that kid from the Southlands. As he said, his ancestor made a pact with Morgoth, and now his son's blood activates the Morgul blade looking thing that we saw last episode because they're both bound to Morgoth and Sauron now. Halbrand will get back to the Southlands, become the king again, but eventually be forced or convinced to join Sauron, due to the pact most likely, then will become one of the Nazgul. He's a king of men, one of the Nine. That all seems really telegraphed so far. Like Halbrand isn't a bad guy but he has this dark side to him that can be exploited - plus that pact he mentioned.
Nori's dad, aka Hobo Baggins, couldn't even get anyone to help him with his work, which resulted in his injury. The others were just sitting around nearby while he did the work by himself and wondered where his daughter was, since apparently she's the only one that's remotely helpful. Either that's just another example of the Harfoots being horribly callous to each other, or they were deliberately not helping him. I dunno, maybe they all wanted an excuse to leave him behind for some reason. lol. Were they sore about him winning all their quiz nights or whatnot?
I used to play D&D. Some DMs would say, "bring your own character." and then we would spend hours just trying to bring the party together. That is what this feels like.
Took 2 hours to roll up a level 1 fighter because...pizza and store runs, and getting snacks, and waiting for that one person who's always late, and the nostalgic jokes that take everyone down various side paths of amusement. That is more fun than watching 3 episodes of RoP.
Lord of the rings inspired so much hope in both the books and movies..the only hope I find in Power is a hope of it ending.

I found it a little bit boring, and unfair to Gimli who got scorned every time he wanted to speak up! however the scene of the elves arriving to Helms Deep, eventough wasn't cannon, was truly a peace of cinematographic art. However, I think the best storyline in the Two Towers was the internal battle Gollum went through to, to at least temporarily, free himself form the evilness of the ring.
I don't necessarily have a problem with the black dwarf, but I do have a problem with her not having a beard. She would have been shunned, disgraced, and thrown head first out of Moria! No questions asked! I'm thinking that Lord Durin must have kept her locked up in that lovely chamber they were in. Hiding her hideous shaved face from the other Dwarves. And yes, when I say "hideous", thats what they would have called her! Among other things. I've had people call me a racist because of my thoughts about her not having a beard. It wasn't my words, it was John Tolkiens words. It was how he described Dwarves. Both men and women. If you read the Fall of Númenor or listen the audio book online wich is about one hour long; you will see that at the beginning the elves and Númenóreans had a very close relationship, Nimloth seed was brought by the elves of Tol Eressëa. Also, Tolkien wrote that as Tar Palantir grew completely obsessed with his mortality he lack himself in the tower Tir Minastir. There was great rebellion amongst Númenóreans who were hostile to the elves and the ban of the Valar. I suppose that during the time he secluded himself away from his people somebody must have took charge of the ruling and government of the island affairs. So the idea of Miriel as Queen Regent during that time wasn't as absurd since she was the rightful heir to he throne, and while her father lived, she must have been respected.

I’ve got to track down a book of Tolkien’s letters if there is one. Currently re-reading the Silmarillion after a gap of over 10 years. Probably the Unfinished Tales next.
While I fully agree about your ongoing assessment about Rings of power, I still don''t get your approval for House of Dragons that has it's own daunting flaws and it's moments of cringy wokeness. Your view of the 2 shows at times contradict each other, almost as if you're choosing to close an eye for certain issues with HOD.
