As both a screenwriter, in a professional capacity, and a novelist, as a pastime, I've learned that progress is made by consistently sitting down with a yellow pad or at the laptop daily. Accomplishments are built one word, one sentence, one paragraph, and one page at a time. Commit to writing daily, even if for only 15 minutes, and focus on capturing the words. Don't stress over perfection - just write. You can always revise and improve your work in later drafts. Sure, it can be intimidating, but bit by bit, it all comes together. Remember to enjoy the journey - that's a big part of the fun!

"In all the world's stories, this was mine". I've written something like that at the end of my 2nd book. I started writing this year after years and years of imagining words instead of putting them where they belong and I can say it was really challenging, but amazingly satisfying. You'll face difficulties in your creative process, that's for sure, but you'll be rewarded with something unattainable by any other thing, which is a deep understanding of your emotions. To quote from a book I really love (precisely the book thief, a pretty famous one, I guess):"You'll hate the words and you'll love them...and I hope you'll make them right".

Currently I'm in a really dark place but your video is truly like light in the tunnel. I feel trapped and the place I'm in at the moment feels like a prison and the only way to escape from it is writing but I cannot write and it's all full circle. I need that kind of refuge you found in this video. You seem very familiar to me with your desire to write and I guess all people who watch and comment this are connected in some way. Happy to know there are my people around the world. Keep writing!

Hey, I just wanted to say you will get through this, and you will find your way out of the circle that keeps you stuck and into much more life. I've been there many times before, and probably will find myself there again, but the beautiful thing is that life is always here pushing us forward in some way. Follow that path, find the little things that bring you light, and know things can always look radically different, if not now then maybe tomorrow, or the next day or the next, but all it takes is one moment for things to change in all the best ways. Keep holding the space for that, and keep writing, you will find your way. Sending you much love and support, you got this! All the best

You were in Molise! So nice, I was born in Molise but grew up in a coastal town very close to Rome. I’m surprised internationals are discovering Molise, it’s such a small region, but I think it’s beautiful. You’ve got everything: the beach, the mountains, a couple of nice lakes where you can actually swim, and small cute villages

I have fallen in love with all of your videos after stumbling upon this one. I don’t think I’ve ever commented on a UA-cam video, but I just had to say from one writer (songwriter) to another, you seem to have words and stories bursting out of you in every glance, word, and movement! A truly natural born storyteller, which is so fun to witness. You are definitely made to create and I cannot wait to hopefully follow along for more. Wishing you the best of luck ❤

Claire, as a fellow (novice) writer taking on a new project this summer, I'm grateful you have chronicled and uploaded your writing process. Your words are so heartfelt: you described the pinnacles/pitfalls of working out a manuscript, even the dispiriting loneliness I feel that is cracked open with my notebook. Raking through yesterday's work is another temptation to give up. But the struggle also feels necessary and metabolic. We live to create. Thinking/meditating is an exercise of presence. I am here, we are all here, for today and maybe tomorrow. Thank you for reminding us why.

The process can be so understated when it comes to writing I feel, for me this video just perfectly highlights everything I believe is the most important when it comes to writing, some of it is just writing consistently, most of it is living. I started writing my book a year ago, I haven't written a single page for it yet, but everyday I think about it, add something new or work on a character here and there, it's become apart of me in some way, and I think because of that, the book has grown with me and my experiences. What was once just ideas, some characters and a premise have grown to become way more meaningful to me than just words on a page. If you know The Stormlight Archive, 'journey before destination.'
This video was filmed wonderfully, I could watch an entire film length of this ❤

I never leave comments, but I lived down the hall from you freshman year at st a. I just wanted to say that i always admired how inspired you are, and your dedication to translating your feelings into something tangible for others. Your words really are a kind comfort.
St Andrews was a place I could not write, but it is one i can not stop thinking about now---- I believe there is a lot to say about unfinished things, through there is nothing better than how you have put it. My fiction professor this past semester was 84 and he gave me a 13 page document with all of his years worth of tips for writing; in it was this quote: "Hemingway put it this way: “Write one true sentence.” (He did not have to say, “And the next one will follow”)".
Wishing you all the best :)

    • @clairemcgory
      @clairemcgory  2 місяці тому

Grace, this is so incredibly kind and feeling, and makes my heart entirely full. Thank you. It's not easy for me to write in St Andrews either, for some reason I can never quite catch my ground, or maybe its better to say that I'm always without my footing, regardless, it seems important to try. I love that quote by Hemingway, it gives just enough to begin, and sometimes that's all you need. I wish you the very best with whatever calls you forward, and hope you find life full of inspiration and grace. All the best to you

idk if it's just me but i love that you're looking at the camera while recording an angle of the state you're in. idk how to describe it other than you're not pretentious. some youtubers pretend the camera isn't there like a movie scene but that isn't the purpose of a UA-cam video. youtube videos are meant to create a connection between the creator and the viewer, to be "relatable" like talking to your bsf on facetime. this video felt exactly that. like a bsf telling me what she's been up to. like setting up your phone on a shelf to record eachother "studying"/"reading" with your bsf. this got too deep all because you were looking at the camera lol but that's my thoughts.

It's "Unfinished," not undone. Undone means, typically, something falling apart or untied.

I know, but undone just felt right.

Beautiful and dreamy, although I could not hear your voice. I would suggest that you invest in a good mic.

Can't wait to visit Italy with my wife and kids. Btw: my novel, Growing Children, by Salustiano Berrios (me), will knock your socks off. Give it a look-see.

Do you care more about the book itself or just the fact that you're writing a book? Filming yourself day 1 kind of shows what the focus is on.

@@knad7365 Does it matter? Filmed or not you start from day one, and that was all I was showing to emphasize

I am extremely privileged and fortunate to be able to live this life, and I have nothing short of gratitude for the grace of being able to live it day in and day out. I do my very best to return that love in all and any way I can, within my local community and farther still; all in an effort to foster peace and shared solace to those who need it most. That I am fortunate amongst that is not lost on me. I share these videos to offer a space of connection to people, a hopeful sense of realness, of honesty and understanding that can be felt and shared, reminding us of that love which exists within all things, far outside of myself but in chance reflected within my own experience and remembered in the heart of another. it is my hope to share in this. While I live a life of extreme gratitude, I do sometimes struggle, for the former does not negate that, and I do my best to experience that with light too. I share these difficulties not as burdens but as gateways to more love found in the premise of a shared understanding; that if others feel this way, however they do, they are not alone. Thank you for sharing this comment.
