I have had my Discover Card for 22 years. I’ve held onto it that long because of their customer service. When you call someone who speaks plain English answers the phone and is able to answer your questions. They may not have the best rewards system but I value service. Hopefully this will not change.

I have a Venture X and have had to call CS a couple times and they've been great. Harder to understand, but still one of the best. I was pleasantly surprised.
I have multiple cards and capital one is the hardest to get a credit limit increase. Each time I try, I get a different excuse as to why they are denying me. capital one cares only about capital one, not your credit growth.

Speaking of mergers.
My oldest credit card goes back to 1995 and was issued by Chemical Bank. Shortly after they merged with Chase.
Fast forward almost 30 years and now it's a Freedom Unlimited. 🤪

Rarely do mergers make sense for shareholders and consumers. It’s just a way for managers to grease themselves. This one is different. This could prevent the visa Mastercard low cost duopoly.

Omg! I just got my Discover Card 4 months ago and the HYS 2 months ago and love the Customer Service. Out of all my cards I hate dealing with Cap 1 customer service reps the most. Had Cap 1 for 8 years.
I’ve been with cap1 for several years now, never had any issue with costumer service, every client is different, i would love to see anyone working at costumer service receiving tons of calls daily.
It’ll be a year or so before we see anything. Have to give 45 days notice!
I'm glad my Discover card will expire by the time capital one takes over.
What a shake up. I have both their savings, but discover is so much better.
Assuming the deal actually goes through, I could see Capital One changing their Platinum and possibly the Quicksilvers to run on the Discover network. I imagine the Ventures would stay Visa since they are travel cards and Visa has better worldwide acceptance.
Anything that was on mastercard would switch over to discover. And the visa cards would stay i would imagine.
I think the main purpose is for Capital One to exclusively use the Discover network and ditch both Visa and Mastercard since they will use Discover to compete against them
Discover & Amex are the best in customer service. Capital One is one of the worst. Say goodbye to based in USA and dealing with off shore agents with hard to understand accents. I just hope Amex will go after all the best customer service agents whose jobs are going to be outsourced soon.
My thoughts exactly. I've had phenomenal experiences with Amex and Discover and horrible experiences with everyone else (chase, citi, capital one, etc)
Oh, stop complaining. Discover is a low-level card. Capital One will give you some viability..

@@oreally8605 doesn't matter it's the customer service that matter. My discovery card is one of my favorite, I even got one for my mother but my capital one is by far my worst card. I only use it to pay for my hulu once every 3 months and that basically it.
Hoping it doesn't get regulatory approval and anti-trust will block it. Those two combined will be 19% on the credit side of the market which is higher than Chases 16%. There is also on the banking side a lot of market concentration too. Around half the amount of banks (and about half the amount of credit unions) in the last 25 years due to mergers like this. And there is more population in that time so the per capita amount of choice is less. Part of a trend that started to accelerate in the mid 1980s though the downward trend has been going on for 80+ years.

I sincerely hope that regulators stop this merger. There are already too few competitors in this space.

1:50 I like that part of this because I have a Discover it, I just got the Venture X with plans to acquire the Savor One in June but I know it’s always been rumored that Capital One will only allow you to have two of their card and so this merger made me a little nervous from that standpoint.
This rumor is simply not true. I have 3 Capital One cards...Venture X, Savor One, and a very old Quicksilver
Imagine being able to transfer 5x back from the discover card to your venture. X 🤯
What I'm most afraid of is international acceptance. I like having the VX work abroad with no FTFs since it's a Visa. If Capital One moves over to Discover's payment network good luck using their cards abroad.
cap1 will keep a bit of discover’s payment network going mostly as a project to see if it can increase acceptance and processing profits. It’s probably gonna be a mostly ugly thing for a 5-10yrs. But if it survives, it’s because it was sold off or cap1 actually nailed it
VentureX is likely to stay Visa as it is a travel card and Visa is accepted in more places than Discover.
Good thing for Consumers , Capital One, Discover

I am thinking it will be the lower level cards. The high tier travel cards need to be on Vida or mastercard for their benefits

I have 200 capital one preferred stock, bought on the cheap under 20, paper loss for now, but they gotta keep paying me my 5%+ dividend so you get yours on regular stock , or they can redeem mine and give me $25 call price for 20% profit
