    Short Karelian Bear dog description:
The Karelian Bear Dog is a powerful, muscular and sturdy dog breed, but it is not a heavy dog, they are also very athletic and agile and they are little bit longer than tall. The average height is between 49-60 cm, which is 19-24 inch and weight is usually between 20-30 kg, which is 44-66 pounds. The females are naturally slightly smaller than males.
Karelian Bear dogs are used for hunting outdoors in cold Finland for long hours, so it is only logical, that they have very practical thick doublecoat, which fits perfectly for this purpose. The breed has a coat of straight, stiff guard hairs and a fine, soft, thick undercoat and the color is black and white with clearly-defined markings. Sometimes, the coat can have slight shade of brown as well.

When I was child, my aunt had a KBD mix that wandered off leash in the country side, near their house. She loved to be outside all day and only came in to sleep. She was a very independent dog and didn't seek for people's company much. She used to hunt some mice for snack. :D When it became too hot at daytime, she dug a hole in the ground and slept there. I would say these dogs are quite primitive ones.

Gracie Ray (named after Royce Gracie and Sugar Ray Leonard) is a KBD I rescued as a puppy. She's loyal, loving to humans and like a hive of bees to everything else. 😂 She has been the queen of the dog park for 7 years and is absolutely fearless. Our most used command at the park is " Be nice Gracie!" She listens and lightens up on her pretend bears.😂 She is definitely a snoop dog of sorts as she's always picking up a scent and she does over a 100 product recognitions. Karelians require an owner who has time for them everyday. I feed her homemade meals that include chicken, tuna, salmon, beef tip, rice, carrots and spinach. She's 7 now and is full of energy. Her friends owners at the park love her because they know their dogs will sleep well that night. Gracie is a legend in these parts for her interactive ways with both humans and pets. That is how awesome KBD's are!

I have a pair of KBD bitches. They're an awesome breed to work with: intelligent and independent, they're a handful to keep and train. Definitely will never be a "velcro" dog, it's not a master/dog relationship, they're partners to their humans. They expect you to dispatch the game they corner for you, and will sometimes chase those bears toward you instead of away. They may not be the strongest, the fastest, or the most agile, but the right balance of all three make them the perfect hunter for the backcountry, especially in cold weather.

Yeah, the hunting instinct is strong in them. Dad had a mix of KBD and some sort of "pystykorva" so a spitz of some sort. We rarely see bears this south in Finland but this dog did like to bring him prey. She especially hated raccoon dogs - a sort of scavenger pest - and would herd them to dad to kill with whatever tool he happened to have.

Just roaming the forest and killing stuff for fun... and fighting bears. Poor bear actually, don't think it wanted to fight them.

Dear I'm going to give you another helpful hint, in English the word "agile" is pronounced what they different G sound then what you are making. It's said ore like ad-zhiyle, if the spelling doesn't completely mix you up. I don't know the IPA way of spelling out the sounds because that means I have to learn a whole new alphabet, kind of like trying to learn either type of Gaelic or Russian. I guess you might say I'm just doing it the old fashioned way in the USA for learning the phonics of English. Oh my! I just now thought of it The G in Agile is pronounced like the J in justice, and the DG in judge; the second G in grudge, not the first. I knew if I worked on it long enough I could help better than I felt like I was doing in the first place!

Thanks! I use a website called Forvo, when i am not sure about correct pronunciation. But i was sure, i know ho to say agile on 100% :-D Well, i was mistaken. The example with justice helped me the most.
So it is pronounced like this right: forvo.com/word/agile/#en

I have to say, it is quite easy to learn english, but very hard to master it. Especially the pronunciation is very confusing (for example different pronunciation in height and weight.. Things like this do not make any sense to me :-D). And than you have all the grammar tenses, those are insane.

@@karinlarsen4251you're right. But, in some languages, J makes a Y sound. ZH makes the same sound in any language and with a non- none English speaker accent it usually works out just right. Come to think of it if I spelled it " a d j i l e ", even if they pronounced it like a Y, it would come out perfectly too, because the sound you accidentally make going from one letter to the other makes the sound you need. Great idea!
