hi John. I have been looking forward to your next build. I will be watching every part of this project with great interest . Thank you so much for sharing your skills with us.
Hi John. Great to have you back building. I for one have really missed your builds during lockdown. Really interested in seeing you apply paint which will be a change from your normal style. Thank you for introducing me to OcCre kits which I had not heard of before I came across your vlogs. Kind regards. Peter.
Thank you very much Peter!!! It feels good to be back and working on a model. We have a long way until we get to the painting part but will get there eventually, so stay tuned and have fun! :)
John ,good start can't wait until the lighting section. The way you are planning to do the lights is very interesting, this should be a fun build. Glad to see you back on.
Hi John. I'm 72 years old and have been making plastic models on and off since I was 8 years old. I binge-watched your build of the Santissima Trinidad, and it is simply awesome. Now I'm watching your build of the Montanes and that's awesome too. I have no idea what I'm going to do when you've finished. (What an interesting history the brave Montanes had). I am inspired to try a wooden ship model as I'm sure you must have inspired many others. Perhaps the Polaris or the Albatros. I hear that there is often a problem with a warped centre-board for the Polaris so probably the Albatros. I think I could manage a simple build. Care and accuracy appear to be the key. Anyway, thanks so much for the videos, and please give my regards to Wolf (although he won't care). Best wishes and stay safe. Max.
Thank you very much for your kind words Max!!! When i finish Montanes i will begin to make the HMS Beagle. I have it and i did the unboxing the same time i did the Montanes unboxing. After that i do not know yet :) The Albatros is a good model to begin with, simple enough and cheap. Because you are going to make mistakes and that's the idea, that's how you are going to learn! I will give Wolf a bug hug for you, stay safe!!!
It is very interesting to see your videos and the experience with which you build the models ... Someday I hope to be able to acquire a model like this and to be able to build it while guiding and helping me with your videos. Thank you! I hope you don't delete them or put them in private :( All parts are so important
As long as i am alive the videos will be there, after i cease to exist i cannot tell what will happen :) Thank you for watching and i can tell you that if you start building a model you will learn a lot :)
you could also put lets under the forcastle and quarter and poop deck, in the wingbuildings on the rear of the ship, and inside the lanterns. My Montanes both the long middle parts where warped when I cut them out, now making a jig/frame to keep them straight when i glue in the frames.
@@JohnsWoodenShips you can place the wire between the wood and the metal decorative piece, there is ultra thin electrical wire, put it in a thin brass tube, bent the tube and place the lanterns on that,
@@Hellspijker Thanks for the tip, but i do not believe i would put leds in the lanterns. If i change to the brass rube (and i do not know where to find one that will be at the same measurements) there is still going to be problems with the wiring there. Very little space to work with.
Fantastic tutorial John. I have just stumbled across your channel and will be following along with your build as you go. I am currently building HMS Terror and I have Occre San Ildefonso on order so your knowledge is going to be very helpful to me. Keep up the good work.
Hi John, Thank you for starting this project. Hey, I have a question. I think you might need a second hole in the ribs for a second wire. I know you have electrical knowledge so you may have plans later in the build for both wires to get to the light. Perhaps a hole higher in the rib for the second wire would solve the wiring. If it was metal constructed you could ground the frame but being wood two wires to each bulb is needed . Looking to more videos.. Gene
Thank you Gene!!! I have made holes for 2 wires but they will be apart at 24cm at the base because that's where the power supply will be. So that's why i have only one hole from a point and after. :)
Hello John, only just found your channel and its great, started to watch all the vids.I have wanting to build this sort of ship kits for ages. Do you only buy/make the Occre brand? I would like to ask if yuo could recommend a good kit/model for the first time builder?
Gary, if I may, I never built a wooden ship before so I actually emailed Occre to ask their opinion. They recommended their Polaris model with starter kit, plus they had a paint and stain set specifically made for the Polaris model. I just got it in the mail today so tomorrow I will start assembling. I would recommend starting with a smaller kit like the Polaris and if you like it, move on to Occre's larger models afterwards. Best of luck to you.
Hello Gary, for the moment i make only models from OcCre. In the past i have made models from several companies. I believe OcCre is one of the best. Polaris is for beginners i agree, i would recommend this one too, it is simple enough : www.occre.com/model-ship/albatros.html
Great series John thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge. How’s everything down in Greece? Haven’t been to Corfu in a few years, Beautiful Island.
False keel is together, just waiting for glue to dry, tomorrow i will fix the ribs and supports, i used the same jig as for my victory as i know its straight, tempted to do a video showing my tools etc but i only have my phone and im not an experienced youtuber lol
You need a tripod, a good camera or a phone with a good camera and very good lighting just to shoot the video. Then you will need a powerful computer and a program to edit the videos, i have learned a lot since my first video!
John, do you find that placing the white glue along the inside corners of all the pieces is sufficient? I would have thought you would place glue along the inside of each piece before sliding the bulkhead onto the keel pieces? I enjoy your work.
@@JohnsWoodenShips C'est quand même dommage de ne pas prendre plus de temps et de soins pour encoller. La précision n'est pas au rendez vous. Du travail bâclé
Hello Mr. Aliprantis. I would like to start to build wooden model boats. I am a beginner but I would like to get to your level of build. What are the first 3 models you would recommend for someone first starting to get to the next level?
Hello Kevin, if you really want to make wooden model ships then you will get to my level and even better! First of all you need a lot of tools and a space to work because each model could take months to finish.Secondly i would recommend to use OcCre kits because they have top quality and easy to understand instructions. As for the kits i would recommend these : for starters www.occre.com/model-ship/albatros.html for the 2nd www.occre.com/model-ship/corsair.html and this one too www.occre.com/model-ship/mississippi.html. And if you manage these you can go up to this one : www.occre.com/model-ship/diana.html and later one you can go to an expensive model. You have to understand that you must make mistakes or you will not learn. And always remember that wood does forgive mistakes, not all but enough. :)
@@JohnsWoodenShips Thsnk you for the models and they are reasonably priced. Ido have some tools and I will purchase motor as I develop. When I complete them I will ask you for the next three. Thanks once again.
Occre makes beautiful kits - I literally just got a new one from them in the mail today.
I couldn't agree more :)

Thank you very much my dear friend!!! I gave it a lot of thought so that i won't have any wires visible and i believe i can make it happen!
Thanks for showing how to glue the skeleton this is my first try on wood ships
Glad I could help!

Awesome build video, I would how ever use LED Strip instead of separate LEDS, using the strip will cut down on wiring and easier.
Thank you very much!!! With led strips you might have a problem with the length and where to cut them.

Thank you very much!
Where did you get your stand from?
If you are referring to the stand base, i got it from OcCre.
I did not get that book I wished I had it maybe I could buy it from you I got no paper instructions
Check out OcCre's site, for some models they have the instructions in PDF. I do not keep the instructions after the completion of a model.
sorry to asks this but are lets like l.e.d.s? I've haven't heard of them and google is no help, keeps sending me to joint smoking sites!?
I do not know what lets are, i am using 3mm bright orange leds or L.E.D.s if you like :)
John was saying L.E.D so they are light emitting diodes, just search for 3mm orange led hope that helps
I'm sorry I thought this was to build the Mississippi
No problem :)
