April 6th, 2017 - Breaking News! A viewer has kindly informed me as to which real-life ship this little toy was modeled after. If you have spent anytime reading the comments you'll know that the question of the toy's prototype has been a popular one and the answer has eluded all of us until now. Thanks go to Austin Leeds for correctly identifying the U.S. Navy's command control ship USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19). There is much information on the internet about this ship that has been operating since 1970. Below is a link to a photo of the real thing. Also be sure to check out Austin Leeds UA-cam channel which I have put the link below as well. This is one of my favourite videos on UA-cam. Between school, work, and personal life, it can seem like a hectic jumbled mess. It's nice to be able to sit down for an hour before sleeping with the blue-light filter on and earbuds at 30% volume watching someone take and transform a oh ship. Reminds me to slow down and enjoy the little, random, quiet and relaxing things in life.
You sir are a master of craft and art. One could easily be fooled into thinking that is a kit built item. Oil tankers, cargo ships, and fishing trawlers are my favorite types of vessels. I see them all the time when I pass the river.
This is my favorite video of yours... and I've watched almost all of them. I recently lost my dog due to kidney failure after a surgery and it has been very difficult for me. Each time I want to either go to sleep or just calm down I always go to your channels. Thank you for doing what you do. Also, her name was Noodle.
I sorry for your loss Chris. Lost my little guy in March last year after 15 years. He was a wonderful fella and not a day goes by that I don't think of him. The pain has mostly subsided and these days my thoughts of him are generally happy ones, though sometimes out of the blue, I will miss him more than ever, like today for example, I was mowing my backyard and as I walked along behind the mower, I was envisioning him trotting across the yard to greet me. Kind of choke me up for a moment to the point that I just stopped in my tracks and savored the vision, and though I was sad, I was still able to appreciate that I could still picture that in my mind because as long as can do that, my boy lives on inside me. The passage of time makes things better Chris, and it will work its healing magic on you as well, so hang in there my friend and take comfort knowing that Noodle will live on in your heart.
I definitely enjoy more of your "crafty"-type videos or simply ones where you do chores that have specific steps to accomplish :) And I really enjoy your chatter as you're doing it, too, it's really informative plus your voice is calming. Please do more of these!
Your that one person where, when everyone is arguing over who starred in a film between person A or B, or when a group is wondering what make of car they just saw, you come in with the answer straight away! Is there anything you DONT know? You are seriously one of the most knowledgeable people ive seen on youtube.
Loved the Bob Ross references -- I feel like you two have a fair amount in common in terms of being able to make great videos and having a unique talent/hobby to showcase. Loved the video, keep up the great work! :o)
“If you hear a great thud and my hands disappear that might be me hitting the floor” that was very funny! Going back and watching some of your older videos and they are great! I love the referral to Bob Ross!

this video is so wonderful!! as everyone else has said: impressive craftsmanship. your videos like this are among my favourites. the bob ross comment made me smile!
Honestly, watching these videos makes me want to find something, ANYTHING, and just fix the devil out of it! Yes, that was a reference to one Bob Ross.
I used to "attempt" to do things like this, paint models of planes, cars, ships etc. But I never had the steady hand you seem to have. This video makes me want to do these things again, though I know I could never do as good of a job as this.
+AbbeyRoad52 Thanks, but it's not about how good of a job you do, or don't do, as much as it is about just doing it. The next time the urge hits you to tinker with something, go for it. It's good medicine:)
RelaxingASMR You are right. I am honored to watch your videos, sir. Because of you, I can feel as though the worries of the world are replaced by a calm, relaxing video which consists of entertainment, education, and relaxation. As long as you make videos, I will continue to watch. As for the S.S. Reclamation, here is to hoping she enjoys new life as a research vessel bringing us better knowledge of our oceans from fish migrations to ship wrecks to ocean trenches. ^_^
These videos to me are always so calming and nice after a stressful day coming to talk to a very wise and wonderful person who makes you feel welcome this channel is truly the best ❤️

A few things. I could babble on about ships for an hour, but I'll try to keep it down to 45 minutes instead :). Seriously though, I have to admit that I am not sure exactly what kind of ship that is. If I had to guess I'd say it is based on some kind of modern missile destroyer, which as their name suggests are relatively small (about the size of a ww2 era light cruiser), ships primarily armed with either cruise missiles or even ballistic nuclear missiles. The term frigate isn't really used anymore. The term was revived by Churchill in ww2 to describe the very small warships that were being cranked out in huge numbers (lots of them over here in Canada) to serve as convoy escorts, and armed mainly with speed, sonar, and depth charges, and little else. They were excellent for anti submarine operations. They were not used in task groups. They were too weak to be useful in real fight. Destroyers and tiny fast short range torpedo boats were used for that. I really don't think that's a frigate. Furthermore, battlecruisers were not lightly armoured battleships. They were heavily armed, fast cruisers. It just so happened that in order to get a ship with big guns to be fast, the early 1900s you needed it to be huge and have relatively little armor, and as a result they ended up being about the same size as battleships, which caused them to be horribly, horribly misused. They were never intended to be used in a fair fight. They were supposed to pick off weak ships at beyond the range at which the weaker ships could even retaliate, and to run away from anything that could. However, because they were big and impressive, and because captions have egos to match the size of their ships, they usually refused to turn and run, resulting in bloody, horrific disasters. Sorry for this rant.
You sir, are exactly correct. The question of what type of ship this is has stumped many a viewer. Though the little plastic toy ship is not an exact match in some of its fine details, the shape of its hull and general superstructure are key to identifying this ship and you my friend have done it. Congratulations. I will now update the video's description now that the mystery has been solved.
Thanks! I knew I'd seen a ship like your model before but couldn't put my finger on where. After delving through lists of US Navy auxiliaries, I found a picture of Blue Ridge and had an "aha!" moment. I'm impressed I found it while being half-asleep ;-) The model looks like it incorporates elements from other US Navy warships as well. Most notably, to my eyes, the bow features the Vertical Launch System (VLS) fitted to, amongst many others, Ticonderoga class cruisers and Arleigh Burke class destroyers. To the best of my knowledge, Blue Ridge has never had a VLS. I also note the lowered rear helicopter handling deck from the Ticonderogas and Arleigh Burkes (Blue Ridge has, for lack of a better term, a flush deck). I love your videos, btw! Any new fountain pen overview videos coming soon?
Awww, you're awesome for doing this! It tears me up, seeing things like this discarded. I'm sure if the little toy ship could speak it would be thanking you for helping it realize its potential and for giving it new life!

Hello.
