- Relax as I show you the Mercury Head dime that I recently found in some change. As I clean it up a little I’ll tell you what little I know about the Mercury Head dime.
The videos on my UA-cam channel portray some of the typical day-to-day activities that I do for relaxation. This video was produced with relaxation in mind and hopefully has some ASMR qualities. Too much stress is harmful to your well-being and in today’s fast-paced world, stress management is more important than ever, and so I hope this ASMR video acts as a stress reliever for those watching and a sleep-aid for anyone having a difficult time falling asleep.

Your voice is asmr alone! This is an amazing video, that green thing that you were using to move the dimes made some amazing sounds.
Its funny that you mentioned that you can still find old coins. I went to a hole in the wall jewish bakery about 15 years ago. I bought a Mr/Dr? Brown's soda from the vending machine and took my change like very one else does. I get home and about to empty the change from my pocket when I noticed one coin didnt feel right. Long story short it turned out to be an 1867 shield nickel.
I believe the cut off date was '63 or '64. My Grandmother must of told me this in passing over 25 years ago and love that I even remember close to what she said... briefly in passing.
cool! 1964 is the last year US coinage used silver for our dimes, quarters & half dollars . full size 90%silver dollars ceased in mid 1930's. My Great Uncle (my grandmas brother) told me when I was a boy.
The mercury dime may have a more creative design but honestly I like the barber design more.
Coin sounds are hit or miss for me, but this one was perfect as always! :) Thank you!

I noticed that you used plain lemon juice. I've seen videos on cleaning coins on other channels where they add a pinch of a salt to the LJ. The addition of some salt works much better than LJ by itself.

I've got a tip for you. Aluminum foil in a saucepan. Place some dirty coins on the foil. Make sure you have a lot of baking soda at home and cover everything with baking soda. Then poor hot water over everything, wait a few minutes and let the magic happen. That's how you clean silver without scratching it.

+Chicken Heart those coins are junk silver they're only worth their own weight in silver so if the weight is not affected then the value stays the same, didn't take me much to get there lol i mean he says in the video they're not collectable coins

Th oldest dime I have is from the 1820s. It also has an image of lady liberty on it but is definitely not the mercury design of her.
I use vinegar and baking soda to clean my 'junk silver.' It works rather quickly and well. It also makes an ASMR-ish fizzing sound.

+RelaxingASMR It's best if you make a paste of the baking soda, then rub the paste onto the coin, then drop it in the vinegar. Baking soda also works wonders on old coffee cups. Good luck.

Isn't Mercury the Roman version of the god, not Greek?

The planets are named after the Roman gods. So, Mars is Ares while Jupiter is Zeus and so on and so forth.

+kenny Dhal Saturn is Cronus, which is the Greek son of Gaia (Mother Earth) and Uranus (Which is the name of the other planet). Cronus is the dude that ate the gods and is the father of Zeus.

Why not use a strongr acid? Does anything stronger than lemon juice damage silver?
I assume he uses lemon juice because its common, cheap, nd easy to come by. Idk about you but I dont know where I can just pick up some hydrochloric acid at will

+stephen allen It is the "stick of ASMR" and is actually a dip pen made of glass. You can find them online.

I have found using a product called Brasso and a soft cloth will make coins look new again

They're cleaner, but they're heavily scratched by your cleaning pad. It's fine since these really weren't really collectable, other than the silver value or fun value, bur never do this to coins in better condition, even if dirty. All condition value will be lost ...
+Mike Rivera Very true...never do to a truly collectable coin what I did with this junk silver coin. My late uncle was a numismatist and he would have slapped that scotch-brite pad from my hands if he'd been around. Thanks for commenting.

Mercury is Roman. Hermes is Greek
True, but they're really just different names for the same thing. They both stem from the same ancient god, just like Ancient Greek and Latin stem from the same more ancient language.
+Roflcopter4b True while technically they are different names for the same "God", it pays to know the difference between Roman mythology and Greek mythology. The Romans stole a lot from Greek culture including their Gods but they are very much different in personality and looks. Mercury is not like Hermes

The Romans didn't steal anything. As I said, their gods both stemmed from the same ancestor, just like their languages did.
+Roflcopter4b Early Romans certainly had their own "Gods" that were more animistic. It wasn't until they came in contact with the Greeks that they began to associate their own Gods with that of the Greeks as well as copy a few and add them to their own. This was the point in which the Roman Gods took on more human attributes including image. This was also when the Romans gave their Gods Greek like mythologies.

Sure, their culture was heavily influenced by contact with the Greeks, but this was possible because all of their gods stemmed from the same ones from which the Greek gods did. It was easy to apply the Greek mythology to them because they were so similar already.
You should of added some salt to the lemon juice, works better.

Don't put it in your pocket. It's your lucky quarter. Anywhere, not in your pocket, where it'll get mixed in with the others and become just a coin. Which it is.
