A bigger issue than the chassis to look out for is any hint of corrosion on the bulkhead. A nightmare once they start to go.

Long wheel base helps smooth the ride.
Especially as you lowered your old 90 and fitted uprated springs and shocks.

Interesting point didn’t think the long wheelbase would make such a difference

The secret to doing long distance in a TD5 is to do it over a week on B roads and enjoy! 🙂

You had your previous Defender lowered, Alive Tuning parts and bigger wheels. Probably why the old farm truck seems smoother, but go steaming into a tight corner and you will probably find out why the modifications work. It's always a trade off fitting semi performance parts some work really well, some not so. That's a nice truck you have now. That chassis needs rust converting and painting with a good chassis paint. You can then spray with your favorite product over the top.

300 tdi is in my opinion the best engine after my last one with 395000 miles on it with only weared parts over time like vacuum pump / the td5 is probably the 2nd but then again I’ve never seen any with more than 200 k miles yet .

A 110 is always smoother and less choppy than a 90….. Downside is navigating a mini roundabout as the turning circle is oil tanker huge.
I drove my 2007 TD5 90(then new)5000 miles up and down Norways Arctic Highway at 50mph(speed limit) and it was fine and averaged 36mpg i’m 6’ 4” and a farmer and have got used to the less than ideal driving position over the years.
My 2016 24k mile 90XS will sit at 70mph easily with its 6th gear and extra comfort although remapped and has and alive suspension package and generally averages 26-27mpg at 60mph.
My Defenders have always been Waxoyled or Dinotrolled from new and topped up with a diesel and engine oil mix sprayed on the chassis whenever the mood takes me so a good second hand but for someone.
Enjoy your 110 videos and I love the standard look
If you want comfort I guess you’ve always got Daisy Dukes pickup!

    Had a 300tdi, then a td5 and now only a 300tdi, no doubt which i prefer.

Hi Doc, have you recently had this Defender resprayed from when you purchased it ? It really looks great. There is a garage near my location that only does underbody protection, and he's been doing it for many years, and his main customers are 4x4 owners, many of whom are Defender owners. I have spoken to him about how he goes about it. He thoroughly steam cleans the underside first, then leaves it to dry out for a day. The next process is to treat the underside with Waxoil, which in his his opinion, is the best after trying all the others, he treats the inside of everything, even drilling small holes to apply the Waxoil, then putting rubber grommets in the holes he has drilled. He's been in business many years and will only use Waxoil, which has been used for many years, 40 years + that I know of.
Doc, give it some thought about using Waxoil on your Defender, and I must stress I have absolutely no connection with whoever makes Waxoil and have NEVER been paid to promote this product. I've always known how good this is ever since I started driving many years ago. I really like your video content Doc, keep up the good work, all the best. 👍🙂👍
