    Another amazing vid Magdeline! Just a question, what sort of portfolio work would you suggest starting to do in 1st year?
    Obviously I’m super fresh into the course so I’m curious what type of work I could be working on to put in my portfolio with such little programming knowledge? :O

    • @MagdelineHuang
      @MagdelineHuang  2 роки тому +17

      Great question Jay! To start off, you could learn some web development basics eg HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
      HTML and CSS require minimal programming knowledge, so you can create a simple website with just those as a first project. JavaScript is much more technical. Here's a course you could follow (I haven't done it myself, but Ania makes really good content!) ua-cam.com/video/Xm4BObh4MhI/v-deo.html
      As you dig deeper, you will learn that there's more than just HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Eg for CSS, you will learn that there's something called SCSS, and for JavaScript, there are frameworks / libraries like React, Vue etc.
      One thing to remember though is that you don't need to know 100% of something before moving on. Eg you don't need to know 100% of JavaScript before using React. A basic understanding of JavaScript should be enough to get you going, and then you can learn more along the way. That being said, it is definitely best if you have a strong foundation in JS before using one of those frameworks / libraries, but with there being so many things to learn in tech, we gotta learn how to navigate efficiently ahaha 😂

    How learn skill online before joining the course

  • @jenjenkins8932
    @jenjenkins8932 8 місяців тому

    I noticed you kept mentioning a project. What do you mean? Is there an optional project that comes along with your assignments/courses or is it something you have to look for online, manual make a random project, etc?

    • @MagdelineHuang
      @MagdelineHuang  8 місяців тому +1

      What I mean by project is something that you build to practise your skills. Eg it could be a calculator, to-do list app, game, app etc - basically anything! You can search for inspiration online.

      @@MagdelineHuang You can make apps just from programming and coding?? Holy crap I have so much to learn. Although I did have a question. I want to be a software engineer in games, or just work as an engineer for Amazon. The college I want to go to offers software engineering major specifically rather than CS, any tips on which one fits for me?

    Hi Madeline , I'm one of your subscribers and often see your videos.
    I have 2 questions for my child.
    my child this year in september will go to the UK to take the undergraduate cyber security & digital forensics program. my question is :
    - As a cyber security student, what laptop is suitable? is it windows or mac os? what are your recommended specs?
    - in your opinion, which is better to take computer science or cyber security? what are the pluses and minuses especially in terms of career?
    Thanks

    • @MagdelineHuang
      @MagdelineHuang  10 місяців тому

      Thanks for the comment and apologies for the late reply! I answered the laptop question in my latest UA-cam video ua-cam.com/video/YBMf2o2MVDg/v-deo.html but long story short, I don't think it matters what laptop you get, whether it is windows or mac os. In terms of studying cs or cyber security, it's really up to the individual and tbh I don't know much about what a cyber security degree would entail. I hope your child is enjoying their degree so far! 😄
