Pro tip about the hood falling down, you can actually fold that little built-in bill under (or over) and it will allow the hood to stay up.

Nice review. I own this jacket and love it. Definitely agree on sizing up for a shell. Outdoor Gear Lab loves this jacket too. It's one of their top picks with highest marks for weather resistance and breathability.

This is a great review. I liked this jacket when I tried it on in the store but I purchased the REI Stormbolt instead, which I liked a bit more because of the added features and more athletic fit. I should have sized up, though...but REI didn't have any larger sizes in stock (and still don't!). I hope they start making more so I can size up. The REI outerwear is solid!

Thanks for the review. How waterproof is this jacket compared to some of the 3 layer breathable jackets like the RAB Kinetic or the Zpack Vertice, something like that? Does it wet out in a good rainstorm?

Hey Barry, I haven't tested those other 2 jackets u mentioned, so I can't make a proper comparison. So far I haven't had any issues with it soaking through. However, what I've found with previous rain shells is that they tend to start out more waterproof when they're new, then eventually become less waterproof over time with lots of use. I'd have to double check, but I'm pretty certain that my last main rain shell was a 3 layer eVent fabric, and it too began to soak through in the hood and shoulders over time. Hope that's helpful :)

Thanks for the reply. Really appreciate it. Yeah, Rab said to re-apply coating every 6 months or so to keep better water resistance. My understanding is that when the coating wear's down, it will wet out in any regular type of good rain, but it is actually water proof, just loses its ability to breath when wet and so when active, you get wet from your sweat. Right now, water beads up really well.
