Come on, Society of the Snow deserves more love, and not just for Beat Makeup. What an oversight…
Maestro for make-up. Barbie for costumes. Having said that, I didn't really like either movie but I absolutely loved Poor Things - it should pick up a few in other categories.
Thanks for sharing guys!!
You are both great and lovely 👏🏻👏🏻
Poor Things takes costumes because it’s her first nom
If I had to give Maestro an oscar, it would be for makeup
I would vote for Cinematography, the frontrunner is not an deserved winner
Why?
@@sherrileerothwell5516 Probably a sucker for B&W I know I am.
Is there anything to predicting Makeup and Hairstyling based on which is more likely to win an acting award? Because the Whale they obviously didn’t like as a film overall, but Brendan Fraser was in the top 2 to win Best Actor. Same with the Eyes of Tammy Faye. So wouldnt Poor Things be the safer prediction for that category?
I really enjoyed society of the snows makeup. It really showed the extent of fatigue, dehydration and hunger that the survivors went through. I would love for it to win in this category.
The scene where they are trying to prepare themselves to get rescued was just amazing. Also the authenticity of their looks is hugely impressive. It's not just about wounds and chapped lips. They all look exactly like their real counterparts. It should have gotten a costume nom as well...
Agree, even the card game they were playing in the plane was a typical game played at that time in Uruguay. Also I got directly a 70’s feeling. And the makeup and hair was really spot on.
My Current GoldDerby predictions (as of 2.3):
*Best Costume Design:*
5. Ellen Mirojnick (Oppenheimer)
4. Janty Bates and Dave Crossman (Napoleon)
3. Jacqueline West (Killers of the Flower Moon)
2. Jacqueline Durran (Barbie)
1. Holly Waddington (Poor Things)
If I had a nickel for every Jacqueline nominated for this category I'd have 2 nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right?
*Best Makeup & Hairstyling:*
5. Ana López-Puigcerver, David Martí and Montse Ribé (Society of the Snow)
4. Karen Hartley Thomas, Suzi Battersby, and Ashra Kelly-Blue (Golda)
3. Nadia Stacey, Mark Coulier and Josh Weston (Poor Things)
2. Kazu Hiro, Kay Georgiou and Lori McCoy-Bell (Maestro)
1. Luisa Abel (Oppenheimer)
Yeah, I know I'm predicting an upset, but like...have you SEEN the work the did on Robert Downey Jr.
OK the powdered wig The Whale joke got me ngl
English Patient won costume design so maybe Oppenheimer could win. But this new Academy spreads the love. Barbie will likely win because she also won for Little Women.
Oppenheimer didn’t have a distinct look the same way that The English Patient did. Also, a sweeping costume epic with a period desert khaki design was easily gonna win against Angels & Insects, Emma, Hamlet, & Portrait of a Lady.
I think Ellen Mirojnick's work in Oppenheimer is incredible. Yes, they are "men in suits", more subtle and less flashy tan other nomenees. But she had to combine four decades into three hours of film. I think those are the things that the awards take into account and she deservers to be there IMO.
This is Ellen Mirojnick's first Oscar nomination after a long and prolific career.
I’m such a sucker for the technical categories. 😊
Passages? For best costumes?are u out of ur mind? They are literally just wearing normal clothes. Do u know what costume designing is? I remember when they nominated LA LA land for best costumes, everybody were upset cause they were literally wearing normal clothes in that film
If Maestro goes home with one award it will be for the nose. But I think Poor Things takes it home.
As for Costume, Barbie.
Kazu Hiro also has two other nods…alongside Rick Baker. So he could be respected enough in his field which is why he gets attached to such prestigious award bait-y films.
Please Invite experts of that field for each category you analyze
I think Barbie and Poor Things might split Costume and Production Design. Both are the top two contenders in those categories and could each get a win to represent their respective films. The reason why I’m not sold on Poor Things nabbing the Make-Up and Hairstyling award is because of the lack of Willem Dafoe in Supporting Actor. Arguably his character is the flashiest display of the work in the film and it unfortunately did miss in that category. You’ve also got Mark Ruffalo who did get in, but the work on him is a little more subtle. Again flashiness is always a big thing for these tech categories and it seems like Maestro will get this as a way to honour it on Oscar night.
Barbie can win production design. That's one of the better things about the movie.
That;s such bizarrw reasoning. What does Dadoe's acting have to do with the makeup on his character?
Poor Things should win both costume design and makeup/hair.
I really don't care who wins makeup between Maestro and poor things but the latter is definitely winning costume design
Mad max fury road won best costumes which was a huge shocker. Everybody thought the revenant was gonna be win
I'm hoping Poor Things upsets Barbie & Maestro to win both Costume Design & Makeup Oscar categories
I think Society Of The Snow is badly overlooked. I had hoped for nominations for also the score by Giachinno (especially), costumes, visual effects, sound, editing and perhaps best actor, and I really hope it wins for makeup.
Yes, badly overlooked. And don’t forget that beautiful cinematography!
Have you forgotten about Lily Gladstone for Killers of the Flower Moon?
Are you saying people vote without watching the movie? Well, I guess you make early Oscar predictions without watching the movies, so there is that.
You guys having intresing discussion but you could use some editing. Add some pictures of scenes/costumes pf movies you find snubbed. More visuals from nominated movies and pictures of the people who designed and made make up. Just two heads talking 98% of the video time is really not great for a YT video, that you can deliver in form of a podcast. TRY to raise a bar a little bit higher for yourself and create better content.
Justice for Priscila
I have not watched the video yet, but I hope Poor Things wins both of them.
Currently I am predicting Barbie for Costumes & Maestro for Makeup & Hairstyling.
But would be very happy if my beloved Oppenheimer won both/either!! 😃
Costume Design:
Will Win: Barbie
Personal choice: Barbie or Poor Things
Makeup and Hair:
Will Win: Maestro
Personal choice: Society of the Snow
Oh god I don't want Barbie to win I want Ellen Mirojnick to win for Oppenheimer.
