  • This is the intro or open to CNN Money Morning from 6:00am on Tuesday, September 11, 2001 (9/11/01 or 9/11/2001). This shows the World Trade center 2.5 hours before it is hit by an airplane. I believe this is the only known copy on the internet.

    That 6 a.m. view, imagine everyone who was awake and already going about their daily routine - making coffee, toast, unfolding the newspaper, turning on this program. The stillness in their home as their family was just getting up with them. Imagine the thoughts going through their minds - the work agenda, deadlines, maybe the dread of a long commute ahead, or perhaps the comforting thought of stopping by their favorite spot for lunch, or an upcoming birthday or family event. Imagine the ones who considered taking the day off, or the ones who had a last minute schedule change and had to report to the towers for a meeting. It was just another normal morning until almost 3 hours later. Many would never go about their routine again. It's so sad and chilling.

      In the 70's I believe it was, they started staggering start times and end times for office workers in downtown Manhattan. This was done in the name of reducing road and subway traffic. This got enough victims in the tower before 9am to sufficiently freak out the rest of us, and they did it long enough in advance that people thought that's how it always was.

      Right? It's both eerie and sad knowing that the people who died that day were either still sleeping at this time or were just waking up, getting ready for work not knowing that it would be their last day alive. I saw a documentary about the day before September 11 and one part talks about a young artist (I believe his name was Michael Richards) who had business early the next day so he took a sleeping bag into the art departments office in the world trade center and slept there over night. He was killed during the attacks and when I see this view of the towers it saddens me knowing that he's in there probably still asleep unaware of what's to come. .so sad..

    There were many lights on in those buildings at 6 am. I guess this means people were working there during the night too, doesn't it? Maintenance and cleaning people, but also employees pulling in an all-nighter to meet some strict business deadline. In the towers at 8.45am there weren't only those who had come to their offices at 8.30am or so. There were, I think, also those who had spent the night there... and that perhaps were napping on a couch for a couple of hours getting ready for a new day. If this is true, it weirds me out when people say "at least there were few people because it was still early in the morning". There could have been more, but they probably weren't that few either.

      If anything, politics have become **less** divisive. Political assassinations are almost unthought of now and more people have access to the pursuit of happiness than before (shame it's so expensive now :/). Things have changed but to think it was all that much better before 2001 is going too far.

    Last time did these lights lit up the beautiful skyline;
    Last time did everyone walked out of these magnificent buildings alive;
    Last time did many left their work in the middle thinking to continue the next day;
    Last time did many enjoyed a meal with their families and loved ones;
    Last time everything seemed normal;
    Because the daylight changed everything....
    But its the same daylight, following the event, that also brought hope and the will to fight and continue living.
    Guess thats what life is all about.
