  • How to replace your RV water softener resin beads.
Resin beads can last anywhere’s from 4 - 7 years, depending upon where you are getting your water, how much water you use & how often you regenerate.
An RV Portable water softener helps control calcium & mineral deposits building up in your RV water system. Having a water softener attached to your RV is a must in my book, if you want to keep your RV healthy & prevent all kinds of plumbing problems through out your RV. We have a 16,000 grain water softener & it usually lasts us about 2-3 months or 1,600 gallons before we have to regenerate/recharge it again. Recharging a water softener is a very easy DIY job but replacing the resin beads takes a few more steps. We have been sharing for a long time now, how important it is for RVer’s to have a water softener. A water softener prevents calcium & mineral deposits building up on your water heater, heating element, ice machine, clothes washer, faucets, plumbing lines & anything else where water travels. Having a water softener can prevent having very costly repairs happening to your RV & help keep your entire RV water systems healthy.

So that was nasty stuff coming out of there! I wouldn’t want my water going through that 😝 And that is the last thing it goes through? You’ll have to explain that to me in person. As you know, I’m not sold on the softeners...we are from Missouri and we like our hard, natural water. Sir Lloyd Benson and I neither one like taking showers in soft water...it feels slimy to us and we don’t feel clean. But loved the video, as usual perfect step by step instructions! Tell Joanie Hi 👋

Was looking at a used unit today from a fellow RV’er who sold his class A. I wondered how hard it would be to replace the resins. Did a UA-cam video search and of course Martin has a video on how to do it. It brought a smile to my face and the confidence to get one of these units. We all miss you Martin. Your legacy lives on with every person you teach and helped.

Great job. Tip#1 Add water into the tank after the resin and that will make the resin float a little to make it easier to install the tube and won't pack beads. Tip#2 Resin is calculated and bought in cu/ft not pounds, so if people are shopping and only see cu/ft they don't get confused. 16k grain softener=.0.5cu/ft, 8k=0.25cu/ft and so on.

24 pounds of beads? We had no idea! Ours are getting rust-colored as well so it might be time to replace them. You guys are awesome!!!

Well done video! We're not softener users- mostly because of storage room issues and because we more frequently (not always) set up in areas with soft surface water supply. But this is a great resource for those that do!

I had no idea you had to replace the beads! We have had a standard size for our little Sprinter Class A since 2016. We are half-timers and just do the regeneration with salt. Truth be told, I got a little lax with doing the test strips. Guess we will be getting some beads, too.

Martin & Joan, I am a serious perfectionist and like perfection at the end of the day. I watched part of one of your videos a few months ago (painting the stripes that were crazed) and initially thought the short part I watched was fairly hoaky, so I tuned out, Well, I revisited your channel a week ago and watched the foam gun wash of your RV and it was not until then I realized you really know what the hell you are talking about and are really qhite a proficient instructor. A good analogy is that I never watched Seinfeld and my dad came over and insisted on watching the last episode, so I was forced to watch it andthen I became hooked after getting to know th actors. So long story short, I am now a RV Street dedicated fan. I even returned to watch the re-paint of your decals full video and was impressed! Okat the rig you have is impeccable and I thought I would throw this request at you, as I did not see a video in your selection. I am needing to do a completer engine bay wash and know the obvious things such as place pags over the alternator and other electronics, however not sure of the chemicals to use or if I would do a simple light rinse or a pressure wash (light) after degreasing. This may be a good video for you to shoot. Now if your engine bay is already clean, you may demo on mine :-) Great channel and tutorials!
