Unlike so many interviewers today Cavett gives the guests time to answer the question as he realises they are more interesting than he is.

Clarke was a genuine modern philosopher. A deep thinker about the implications of the recently uncovered facts about the universe. It's reflected not only in this interview but also in his stories.

I once saw a small plane flying directly towards me that had me on edge for several seconds. At first it seemed like an especially bright star, then it seemed to move ever so slightly. Eventually, I could see that it was just a plane and what I was seeing was the light on the front of the plane.

We don't get talk shows like this anymore. Joe Rogan is the closet (yet not so much with spotify) to ask these deep questions. Yet Cavett kept it formal and intellectual. The guests did not need to display some masculine attitudes to draw an audience they used their wit and charismatic skills.

One night I was hanging out with some friends when one of them looked up, stared for a few seconds and comments "Hey, that star is moving.". I assume it's a satellite or something and glance up. A second later he says in an excited voice "There's a whole bunch of them moving!" By this time I'm starting to get focused in on a star and sure enough, it's moving. A second after that, he's right... A whole bunch of stars are moving! I think "Holy crap... WTF!!!"... My blood runs cold. Then I realize... It's not the stars that are moving, it's the clouds that are moving. The apparent motion of the stars is just an optical illusion. It only took about ten seconds to figure out, but man... the adrenaline was running for those ten seconds.

Yes it's interesting. ACC's scientific mind being probed to reveal a spiritual dimension....but he couldn't. He couldn't entertain the thought...it didn't fit with his right brain scientific mind....and yet he wrote such metaphysical literature...how peculiar. That is so revealing...

Highly intelligent, beyond my sphere. I'd love to counter thought but i'd be fooling myself. His vision ultimately though will probably be a few years off regarding humanity and it's evolving disintegration. I'm sure his philosophy on extra terrestrials was just a money maker so it made his own scientific theory's a joke, which was a pity.
