- it's been a hot minute since i made any vlogs, but i figured i could make one to share what my everyday life is like as a 3rd year student at soka university :)
enjoy!
I appreciate you making this video so much!! I wish I could go to Soka so badly, the campus is literally like a dream it's so pretty, but they don't have my major!! 😭 This vlog is the closest I can get to actually being a student haha

Thanks for this video ! I'm international student and I wanna apply in this university in 2021!
so cuteeee
I applied for SUA Early Action and will get my response this Wednesday. I'm super nervous but I know that whatever the outcome is I'll be fine. Thank you so much for the video!!
Hey can you update your result I'm glad to know that 😊
Did you get in?
Hi, Nagisa! Thank you so so much for the video! I am a prospective student from Cambodia, hoping to apply for Fall 2021. There is barely any info about SUA on the internet. I think it's a hidden gem. I am applying right now, but I am a bit confused about the application process. I am only familiar with common app... can you make a video to run through it, or is there any way I can contact you? Many thanks! ^^
update: I got in!!!
Hi Rita, thanks for watching! It’s been a while since I applied so I don’t remember all of the details, but I know you can apply to Soka through Common App! Soka’s website has a page you can check out to see more about how to apply, including checklists, etc. here: www.soka.edu/admission/undergraduate-admission/how-apply
And if you still have more questions, feel free to reach out to any of the admissions counselors! They are all super nice and are there to help you through the process. You can call or email them with any questions, no matter how small. You can set up a time to video call with them too, if you need. Their contact info is here: admissions.soka.edu/portal/meet-your-counselor
Hope this helps!
Please can I ask you some questions if you see this please reply I know it has been three years I hope this pops up on your side .
Hi! I'm planning on applying this fall, and was wondering what some of your favorite and least favorite parts of Soka university are. Do you ever feel like you're missing out on a more traditional college experience because of how small the student population is? Thank you! Your dorm looks super cute!
thanks! i think the smallness of soka is honestly both my favorite & least favorite part about soka😅 i love that the soka community is like a little family. by the end of your 4 years you pretty much know all your classmates, plus you can really get to know some of the faculty & staff. i can't imagine very many other schools where you travel halfway across the world with a professor & 11 other students (paid for by a grant!) & we'd all go out to dinner & have a beer together, or where it's normal to play pick up soccer with students, alumni, staff, and faculty (& even their kids sometimes lol). but at the same time, it is very small so news (or gossip) travels really fast & there's definitely no frat parties or 300-people lecture halls. you're expected to actually show up to your classes and participate, which can be annoying if you didn't do the reading ahaha. so yeah, it's not for everyone but it was a really good fit for me so i don't regret it!
Hey ! Maybe we will meet! I applied for fall 2021 too :)
@@solenaleonardI’m pretty late but did you get in??😅
@@ocean_princessI just submitted an application 😢so I want to know if she got in to compare admission materials am worried am not good enough and the will be people with better grades
@@ivwanajinamonje2289 Hey! I ended up applying to Connecticut College and got in :) i’m sure you will too!!
Hey :) What are your favourite ECs at Soka to do in your downtime? This video was really helpful. Thank you!
i think one of my favorite parts about soka is how close it is to the beach! in september & october especially, i like to spend my fridays at the beach because it's still really nice out but most of the tourists from summer are gone and the younger kids are back in school :) i also like to dance & i'm actually one of the officers for a latin rhythm-based dance club on campus. there's a bunch of different clubs you can join or if there isn't one you like, it's not that hard to create your own. also, if you like hiking you can literally hike into the canyon that surrounds soka without having to drive anywhere
hey! If you don't mind sharing what were your stats for applying like GPA-wise?
hey! i wanted to ask if Soka has any business courses? i can’t seem to find any information on that!
Hey! Thank you so much for making this video! I've applied for fall 2021 and I really hope I get in! It looks like the best school ever! Quick question for this whole covid situation: do you know if freshman are still 2 per room? Did that "rule" change since? Thank you so much!
I'm not 100% sure, but I think Soka will give every student their own room until the pandemic is over, but once it's safe, I think they'll go back to having 2 students per room for 1st years. Hope you got in :)
@@nagisasmalheiserThanks! And yes, I got in!!!! I'm so excited!! About that though, I was wondering how you dealt with the financial part.. I got grants but i still have half of the four years worth to pay and my family can't really afford that.. Do you come from a wealthy family or did you get a lot of scholarships? How did you make it work? Thanks :)
@@solenaleonard i was fortunate enough to have family that could help me out, but i know that's definitely not the case for everyone. many students (or their families) take out loans. but also, i'm not the most qualified to answer this question so i would reach out to the admissions counselors and they can definitely tell you more about what your options are!
Heyyyy chica i hope it’s going well.
thanks i am international student form viet nam
hey! what’s the lgbtq+ student life like on campus? as someone apart of the community and someone who is interested in applying next year, what are your insights into that? thanks!
to be completely honest, i don't think i've ever been around so many lgbtq+ people in my life! hahaha i would say people here are supportive, we have a club/affinity group called lgbteam (if you're interested in talking to someone from there dm me on insta @nagisasmalheiser and i can redirect you) and most students & professors are good about asking for/sharing their pronouns, etc.
Ok, eu consigo chegar aí.
Mais ou menos quanto de dinheiro precisa pra ir até lá ??

Are there a lot of Black people on campus? how diverse is Soka? thinking of enrolling next fall
hi emmy, good question! i think soka gets more diverse every year, but i would say maybe only 10% (or even a little less) of the current student body is black. in terms of faculty and staff, there's also not a ton but that being said, the black student union (bsu) and the students of color coalition (socc) have really been pushing for more from the administration over the last 2-ish years so they have started to hire more black faculty/staff, are working on a black/ethnic studies concentration, providing more resources for bipoc students, etc.
ok
Love 💕 you from Kenya Africa
Are there any international students?
Yes, so many!
blink twice if u need help
