The broadcasts of Summer and Winter Olympic Games produced by NBC Sports are shown on the various networks of NBCUniversal in the United States, including the NBC broadcast network, Spanish language network Telemundo, and many of the company's cable networks. The event telecasts during the Olympics air primarily in the evening and on weekend afternoons on NBC, with varying times on its cable networks, such as after the close of the stock market day on CNBC, the early mornings on MSNBC, overnights on the USA Network, and various hours on NBCSN.
Since the Barcelona games in 1992, the main theme of NBC's Olympics coverage has been "Bugler's Dream", a composition by Leo Arnaud that was historically used by ABC as the main theme of its Olympics coverage since 1968.
Since the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, the composition has been traditionally followed by John Williams' "Olympic Fanfare and Theme", which was originally composed for the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
"Olympic Fanfare and Theme" I'm so happy the music created for the 84 Games is still considered the best all-time.
Yes indeed. Always sounded like a movie, ala Star Wars or Indiana Jones. Same era the theme was made.
@@joew.6836 Funny enough John Williams wrote the scores for those movies too as well as this!
@@davchez Wow! I had no idea, but I am not surprised!
Me too and I’m not even American- but watch some US coverage
One best compsers of our time
Happy 90th birthday, John Williams!
Thank God he's still alive. I'm surprised the Olympics haven't gave him an Gold Medal.
Live from Paris, France, it's time for the games of the XXXIII Olympiad
33 (XXXIII) is such a clean Roman numeral!
They don't use this that much anymore -_-.
NBC, FOR THE 2028 GAMES PLAY MORE OF THIS!! I MISS THIS THEME!
Why does this music make me want to shed a tear every time I listen to it?
It's that time again. I love this theme!
THIS SONG WILL FOREVER BE ICONIC AND I HOPE THAT THIS SONG WILL BE USED FOR YEARS TO COME 😊😊😊
The only thing this intro theme is missing is Bob Costas voice giving a small prologue of the events for the night. Great theme on its own right, but without Costas, it feels somewhat incomplete.
Coastas’s career pretty much went downhill after 2017. He decided he had enough and went into baseball, Mike is a good replacement but nobody will replace Bob. We will remember him.
@@Mrcharles. And now Bob is part of CNN
@@ericsupermagnificent and TBS for their MLB postseason coverage & NCAA March Madness, an event he never got the chance to cover while at NBC.
His last Olympics he broadcast was Rio 2016 after that he got replace by Mike Tirico starting from 2018 Olympics
@@jamesbagby1286 Bob was at a lot of events on NBC, the Olympics, the host of the Triple Crown horse racing, and Sunday Night Football host. Also MLB games used to be on NBC in the 1990s and called some world series games.
I really really miss this music from this year's Olympics. This composition has such a triumphant hopeful sound that hits your bones and recalls so many memories of joyous moments of the previous games! The music of this year's Olympics sounds like the soundtrack of an inexpensive kids' video game.
Yes EXACTLY!! 😮 HORRIBLE job buy NBC no longer playing the Olympic anthem before the start of their nightly show.. I don't get it. But thank God for technology and we can hear it anytime we want to on our phone or whatever other device
I literally turn this version on my phone during the opening so I don’t have to hear whatever abomination they are playing.
Outside of the opening montage the first 45 seconds the rest can be used so interchangeably with what's going on too. Rallies/comebacks, triumphant victory, anticipation, big event, both as an intense opening and closing to an important day, a release of tension and a way to create more tension. It all fits. it's really remarkable how versatile it is
I literally hear this some everyday I watch it🤔. It’s seems NBC is just omitting the intro (tympani part), but the remaining of the theme is there.
I hate this year’s Olympic theme song! NBC should have kept this one.
I’ve been watching Gold Zone on Peacock for nearly five days straight with only occasional pauses. I have yet to hear this theme and it upsets me no end. NBC what are you doing?!
Because peacock doesn't have the rights to the theme NBC does
@@johnbeaman9570nbc owns peacock
It's sad that this theme is seldom used in the NBC telecast of this year's Olympics.
I thought I was going insane, we're on Day 3 of competition and I've BARELY heard this theme, if at all!! Horrible choice by NBC
It’s synonymous with the Olympics for me
I think it was totally taken off peacock but only used like once for primetime on nbc
John Williams is the GOAT, go down the list of the music he has created 😊
Who's ready for Paris 2024??!! The Olympics are coming!! You'll be hearing this theme quite often in the next several weeks!! I personally prefer "Olympic Spirit" over "Olympic Fanfare." But, this is the theme that got me excited all these years since I first watched the Opening Ceremony of '84!!
I’ll be ready once delta sorts their it issues out, otherwise I don’t think I’ll make it, I’ve been an Olympics fan all my life 😅
So far it’s been a good Olympics for team USA. Simone bials won gold in gymnastics while Katie ledecky dominates the swimming events.
I have not heard it once!!!! I had to look it up the other night just to hear it to make it official!! This theme is irreplaceable!!
The coverage for these Olympics has been amazing! I love the Olympics now
The musical score theme for the Olympic Games is truly inspiring.
Honest to God, we are so lucky to be alive at the same time as him
2:03 when they throw it to Bob Costas 😂
I miss Bob he was the Jim McKay of NBC Olympics coverage so sorry he left NBC sports
Jim McKay did his final Olympics coverage in 2002 and did his final interview with Bob Costas at the Salt lake City winter 🥶❄️ Olympics
Before Jim McKay passed away he's surely missed he hosted every Olympics from 1968 to 1988 Calgary Alberta Canada winter 🥶❄️ games
And now NBC first Olympics coverage was the summer Olympics in Soul south Korea in 1988
Bob costas did a good job but the current guy Mike tirco seems to be doing great as well.
I love hearing the Olympic theme song. I would always watch the Olympic games when I would get home from work. It was relaxing to watch the games after such a stressful evening as a police officer. I miss those days.
The best Olymipcs theme of all time hands down. Made that synthesizer POS CBS introduced the same year for the Winter Olympics sound like elevator music.
@0:50 i always tear up at this part when they talk about the upcoming events. It’s a shame they aren’t doing it this year.
That's the part that always gets me too. Glad I'm not alone!
not during the Tokyo games? certainly there for the recently concluded winter games in Beijing!

ATLANTA 1996 and TOKYO 2020
My two personal favorites for the Olympic Games
Sydney 2000. Paris looks promising too.
Atlanta, Sydney, and London were mine.
For me it was probably London but I can’t wait in four years when the Olympics come to Los Angeles.
I have been looking all over for this version for decades. Thank you so much!
Congrats on locating the 1984 themesong! It is one of several composed by John Williams! My personal favorite is "The Olympic Spirit," which Williams composed for the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea.
Really? It only took me one search 🤣
Not just this song but this exact version. The BAH Bah BAAAAAH *Rest* BAH BAH BAAAAH with Trumpets made it even better. The original version on UA-cam doesn't have this version let alone this two toned version of the song colliding with each other. Punch and Counterpunch.
YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!
@@chorlauheung4920 my favorite is "Summon The Heroes." That one made a statement at the end.
I so strongly associate this theme with watching Michael Phelps win eight gold medals in Beijing in 2008. That’s my favorite Olympic performance ever.
From NBC News. This is a special edition of Today: TOKYO 2020 with Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and AL Roker live from Tokyo, Japan.
With special guest Mike Tirico and the return of Bob Costas and Matt Lauer :P
I hate all those clowns. what a bunch or losereds
Paris 2024! Here We Come!
Will be there in a few weeks, get ready Paris!
Anyone miss Bob Costas? I sorta do but Mike Tirico is good, maybe that's why he left ESPN because they need someone to do primetime on NBC.
His voice makes the Olympics sound like it’s Sunday night football. Not the right fit,
Mike is doing a good job 👏
I definitely miss Bob Costas. That guy makes any intro better. Best one he did was NBA on NBC.
I like Mike Tirico but he's better at Sunday Night Football.
The first 45 seconds is a remake of “Bugler’s Dream”, written in 1958 by Leo Arnaud and originally used starting in the 1960s when ABC covered the games through about the 1970s.
BEIJING 2022 WINTER OLYMPICS
One week away from the Opening Ceremony for the 202One Summer Olympics. Then another Olympic Games in six months.
maybe
That's a good thing and the next Summer Olympics won't be another 4 years, instead 3 years.
I will defend the CBC Theme until the day I die but this is what you call "IMMORTAL”!
I just listened, for the first time, to the CBC Olympics theme: I have to say, I like very much that they alter the theme to reflect which country is hosting the games. On the the whole, it is a rousing great piece of music.
On the other hand, it’s impossible to best the NBC score composed by the immortal John Williams. Therefore, I’m going to call it a draw. 😁

I'd truly 💘 Olympics!
Welcome to the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, from Tokyo, Japan on NBC Sports.
I was born in Tokyo and remember the 1964 Summer Olympics. I was six and living on a Navy base in Yokohama. I still have a pin with the Olympics five rings my dad bought me.
