Party All the Time isn't a one-hit wonder. It's a one-hit masterpiece. What Eddie lacked as a singer is more than made up for by the sheer beauty of the music, the relentless catchiness, the way it captures the mood and refuses to let go. Admit it, this is pop perfection, brought to you straight from the golden age of the genre.
Eddie Murphy is the weakest part of this song. Anyone else could've recorded this and it would've been a hit. Dunno why you're so down on the production, it's pretty slick.

+fer03202011 not that he is a porgukpine but he made the music
This song is a guilty pleasure lol it’s awesome lmao the sound of 80’s production, Rick James producing, and wayyyy too much coke. 😂
Yeah, just look at how the dude on the left is dancing at 6:01. He's feeling that blissful numb stimulation. Lol.
"Put Your Mouth on Me" sounds straight outta Sonic 2. I hear the jump spring and ring effects every time I hear that song.
LOL it does.
A lot of those proto-new jack swing songs are like that.
7:57 Weird Al has a great voice compared to this, YOU TAKE IT BACK!
guilmon182 He means his normal speaking voice.
Weird Al sucks
@@atapjay3533 You are hereby banned from the internet.
Al's voice has gotten stronger over the years, Todd. Don't dis him again.
I like the song, and I will die on this hill.
Now imagine "Party All the Time" sounding like a 2000s pop punk song, in the style of Paramore - now it would sound even more awesome!
That's literally Andrew WK's 2006 cover
Don't worry, Todd. You aren't breaking my heart. Because I really like "Party All the Time". Very, very much. Basically I'm just listening to see what your opinion is and why because I believe you are a good music critic and a fun one at that. But I totally disagree on that part about this song sucking. Hell, it's one of my favorite songs of all time, and I just recently realized that it's sung by Eddie Murphy. :)
I agree with you that I love party all the time, but it's still isn't a very good song. It's very flawed in a lot of ways, the versus are very bad and Eddie Murphy's vocals aren't good at all. I think given a tweak or two it could of been a good song, but as it stands, it's not really a good song.
Kinda random, but who else would love to hear a full on Todd In The Shadows album consisting entirely of piano instrumentals of pop songs? I just love his versions of some of these songs, and it would be really cool to hear his full take on songs like "Party All the Time" or "You Spin me Round (Like a Record)". Just a thought.
Then we should push one and ONLY one of his songs to the top of the charts.
That’d be great
i agree he probably couldve sang it better but i like party all the time
The most hilarious part of seeing Michael Jackson and Eddie Murphy in a music video together?
Watch both of Murhpy's stand up specials. He... uh... wasn't very nice to the King of Pop...
Delirious and RAW just went in on The King Of Pop.
Mike should have moonwalked all up and down his ass.
That's why Michael tore Eddie's ass up when he took his girl in the Remember The Time music video.
They were good friends in real life
lol
3:30 "... Rick James, as many of you already remember from the PBS documentary series Chappelle's Show show" 😂 I still laugh at this line every time I hear Todd say it 😂😂
I go around singing Party All The Time like...all the time. I love it.
I look at Eddie Murphy’s singing like I look at Frank Sinatra filling in for Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show. He was Frank, so they indulged him.
Well Frank probably also had the mob kidnap the producer's family to make it happen,
@@MartKencuda - They made Freddie an offer he couldn’t refuse. lol
this song has played at every job I've had, it follows me everywhere and I love it.
And yet he would be a credible singer when he was in dreamgirls. Where was that Eddie when making party all the time?
Are ya daft!?! Party All the Time is a phenomenal song. The bass beat, the pitch perfect synths, the hooks, Rick James huskily whispering in the background. This song kicks ass!
I never knew that Eddie Murphy had a career as a singer and it's easy to see why he bombed at it.
Man I love this song, it's exactly what it needs to be, dumb cheesy 80s synth R&B. There's just something real catchy about the chord progression.
The chorus is great. You're specially reminded of that throughout all other parts of the song.
I'm sorry but this song is fuckin awesome
I can’t help but love this song.
This song is fire unironically
I agree
Todd i will not lie after seeing this video for the first time like years ago, Party all the time has become my all time favorite song. I remember asking my parents to get me a vinyl of this song and trying not to laugh when they actually spent a good week trying to find it. God this song is amazing on so many levels
Love his Reggae tunes. "Red Light" & "Oh Jah Jah" are amazing
So thanks to this video I have had the chorus of this stuck in my head for 2 days - THANKS TODD!
The song wasn't as bad as Don Johnson's "Heartbeat" for comparison. And it was just cool to see Rick James and Eddie hanging out as a cultural touchpoint to reference the Dave Chapelle Charlie Murphy stories. Rick looks like he came straight from his "GLOW" cover shoot. Glow had a cool song called "Sha La La La La (Come back Home) that's a pretty sweet slow jam.
I love all the hangers on telling Eddie that he’s the greatest in the video
I skipped to the very end to make sure you used Children of Bodom's cover as the closing clip.
RIP Alexi.
My dude brought his whole rig to Starland Ballroom which is basically a 20x20 bathroom and cranked it to 11.
I guess Eddie Murphy's voice must have improved over the years, because I thought he was amazing in Dreamgirls. (Is it just me?)
He's had time to get better. You can tell Eddie Murphy has a secret, probably sensitive, side that wants to get out. Being in Dreamgirls was probably a dream come true.
Fee tines a mady!
Party all the Time is one of my all time favorite songs. Not even lying.
Was that booty butt song the inspiration for "What what in the butt"?
You missed out on Murphy's "Oh Jah Jah"
It's awesome
It was actually good.
Idk what anyone says, this is a bop
Rick James’ reactions in that video are hilarious. Especially in hindsight.
I love part all the time!! It's such a poppy, light hearted, 80s luscious song
I’d love to see Todd review Bruce Willis and Patrick Swayze’s one hit wonders!!
GTA 5 this was my jam!
"Weird how 'vanity' has become synonymous with 'embarrassment'."
Pride goeth before the fall.
The watermark for YLE, a Finnish TV station on the videos from Eddie Murphy's 1993 album must mean somehow Eddie Murphy's music was a smash hit in Finland. 😂
My girl wants to potty all the time,
Potty all the time, potty all the time!
haha
it always kinda sounded that way to me too
LOL - I used to sing that to my daughter when she was potty training
That's the Jeffrey Epstein cover
Too much fruit!
You showed his and MJ's music video; but Eddie was very cool on the video for Remember the Time.
Absolutely. It sounds like he's singing karaoke and you can't tell if he's being serious or not.
hell, Todd even mentions a guy who could've most likely turned it into a hit for themselves: Lionel Richie. At the very least Richie could sell people on the idea of him being cheated on in a relationship.
It *was* a hit...
@@JoeServo It was not a major hit, but I clearly remember it being on Rick Dee's weekly top 40, as my late father had a red 82, and later red 86 Corvette, and when we went cruzing on the weekends to the mall, it was his favorite thing to crank up on the radio, well that, and Casey Kasem's American Top 40.
@@CommodoreFan64 It went to #2 in the US. Todd indirectly mentions that in this video (Lionel Ritchie was the one who kept Eddie out of #1).
It lives on in parody/tribute form (at least in my head). I still belt out "MY GIRL HAS TO POTTY ALL THE TIME!" when my GF constantly uses the ladies room lol
Oh God after I saw this review, I had this song ON REPEAT while I was studying for university. Not really sure why, but I do know my neighbours need a written apology for it. This song's a banger though.
I miss the 80's. Sneaking into the living room at night to watch Eddie Murphy's special. Not even Chappelle gets away with what Eddie did.
Eddie Murphy's comedy didn't age well. Chappelle's did.
@@matteframe I don't think that is fair to compare an act from 30 years ago to one from less than 20 years ago. The jokes are still funny unless you are too young to remember the 80's.
I still dig this song. I remember. No stars this big today.
I actually like this song a lot, don't know why people doesn't like it. It's great, composition is great, arrangment is great, producing is great, I even like Eddie's vocals here. I think he deserves much much much better. I'm still waiting for his new music, now he writes and produces it himself, and he plays reggae.
'Party All The Time' is a fun tune. 'I, Me, Us, We' isn't terrible either and I think is probably one of his best vocal performances.
I don't care what anyone says this song is fucking amazing.
my parents were were dancing to this in the club when it was a hit and it still goes hard
party all the time is one of the only songs of actors attempting a singing career that actually holds up and is a really legit good pop song especially from the 80s. one of my all time fave 1 hit wonder songs ever!
Right. Definitely holds up!
